Mandatory Masses and Mass Attendance: Upon registration each student was given a Homily Reflection packet which contains the Mandatory Mass schedule as well as a contract signed by both parent and student. We understand that on occasion there is an extenuating circumstance that may arise (illness, wedding, death in family, etc). If that should occur, please me prior to the weekend so that we can make arrangements. If your child wakes up sick, just like school, me that morning and I will get back to you. While this may seem repetitive, I apologize; however, students are not showing up for assigned weekends and/or didn t know, etc. we have been forth coming regarding our Religious Education policies and continue to work with our families. Missing a mandatory mass will result in a delay of sacrament and/or removal from the program. Just to clarify: Epiphany is not saying you only need to come to mass 14 times a year. Every Catholic is required to attend weekly mass and all Holy Days of Obligations. 6 Helping Hands Helping Hands is in need of the following items; Apple juice, Can Chicken/ Salmon/ Tuna, Oatmeal, Coffee/Tea, Condiments, Tooth paste, Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Body Soap, Shampoo. Our families are also in need of pet food & supplies. Gospel: Luke 5:1-11 Luke tells of Jesus preaching to a crowd, then joining Peter who was about to end a fruitless day of fishing. He told Peter to lower his net back in, and a great number of fish were caught. Upon seeing this, Peter and his companions, James and John, immediately abandoned their nets to follow Jesus. Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips, living among people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts! He touched my mouth and said See now, that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed, your sin purged. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? Who will go for me? Here I am, I said, send me. The call of the prophet and the new vocation of the fishermen can be the image of the call that Jesus makes for us today. We need to respond to the invitation He graciously gives us, to be sent to announce His message. It is easy for us to make excuses, to hesitate, or even flee. The unclean lips of Isaiah were purified to prepare him for his role. Our own lips are unclean when we use them to criticize, speak ill of others, or complain, or even use bad language. We can use the same tongue to pray, praise and show others His presence in our lives. Peter speaks for us all as he says: but at your command I will lower the nets. What a surprise, leading him to the humble confession depart from me Lord for I am a sinful man. Jesus responds with the familiar phrase Do not be afraid from now on they followed Him. May we identify with Isaiah, seeking what the Lord asks of us. May we leave our tangled nets, acknowledge the Lord s call and forgiveness, and follow Him. myparish App Stay up-to-date with what is going on in your parish throughout the weekenjoy many useful faith-building resources and features to complement our daily faith life, such as, Confessions and prayer time reminders, daily Mass readings, quick access to parish contacts, the ability to submit prayer requests, receive MASSMode reminders to silence your phone before Mass, and much more!
