1 Fax: Celebrating 150 years of God s goodness 1868~2018 Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish develops, grows and sustains the Roman Catholic faith by enriching and nourishing the Body of Christ. We strive to fulfill our baptismal call by being the Hands of Christ in sharing our individual time, talents and treasures to grow as sacramental people. Gospel Summary John 3: This Gospel passage contains one of the most beloved and well-known verses of Scripture: For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life (John 3:16). Indeed, God s great love for us is clearly presented in this Gospel reading. The Gospel also calls us to keep coming into the light, to turn from our wicked ways, and to live the truth. Reflection for Families God sent his Son into the world with a purpose, and that purpose was to save and to redeem those who believed in him. Take time to think about the world into which you are sending your children. What are you doing to prepare them to fulfill their purpose, their call, as sons and daughters of God? How are you showing them what it means to come to the light and to live the truth? Sunday, March 11, 2018 Fourth Sunday of Lent

3 Can you believe it is a month since our Eagles won the Super Bowl? I recently read what Nick Foles said immediately after the victory when asked about failure. It s like a homily from the heart. "I think the big thing is don't be afraid to fail. In our society today you know, Instagram, Twitter, it's a highlight reel. It's all the good things. And then when you look at it, you think, like, wow, when you have a rough day or your life's not as good as that, you're failing. Failure is a part of life. That's a part of building character and growing. Like, without failure, who would you be? I wouldn't be up here if I hadn't fallen thousands of times, made mistakes. We all are human. We all have weaknesses. I'm not perfect; I'm not Superman. I might be in the NFL, and we might have just won the Super Bowl, but hey, we still have daily struggles. I have daily struggles. But that's where my faith comes in. That's where my family comes in. I think when you look at a struggle in your life, just know that that's just an opportunity for your character to grow. And that's really just been the message. Simple. Like, if something's going on in your life and you're struggling, embrace it, because you're growing. Poor Box Donations during Lent will benefit the building of a Safe House for women and children fleeing domestic Violence in Delaware Country through the Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County, Inc. If you need a break from all the noise of the world, consider spending an hour, a half hour or even a few minutes with Our Lord in our Adoration Chapel. Sitting in His presence in our beautiful chapel will fill your heart with peace and will refresh your soul. If you have any questions about Eucharistic Adoration feel free to contact me at cabf3029@gmail.com. God bless, Carol Farnan From the Eucharist comes strength to live the Christian life and zeal to share that life with others. - St. John Paul II Mass Moments with Deacon Bill Where does the name Lent come from? The origin of Lent is not particularly theological. The Old English word that became Lent means spring season. In today s Dutch language, the word lente means spring. That s fine for us here in the Northern hemisphere. In South America, Lent occurs during the fall season. Oh well Consider signing up for an exciting new 8-week program: Who Am I To Judge? This phrase was well known even before Pope Francis said it. But is discerning right from wrong the same as judging? What is right and wrong? Is there a right and wrong for everyone, all the time? These are difficult questions to discuss in our culture. We live in a society that supports the opinion that each person should make up his or her own morality that there is no moral truth that applies to everyone. Maybe some of us wonder whether there really is an absolute right and wrong for everyone. Or maybe we accept that there is a moral standard, but we don t know how to explain our convictions in a convincing way. Maybe some of us are afraid of being labeled as intolerant or hateful. How do we talk about morality in a relativistic world? In this small group study program featuring popular presenter Dr. Edward Sri, we'll explore the Catholic view of morality and find that it s not merely a set of guiding principles for theoretical situations, nor is it just a long list of Thou Shalt Nots. it is a beautiful truth and an entire way of life. For an informative and enjoyable introduction to Catholic moral reasoning, join us for this 8-week course facilitated by Deacon Bill. Times: Mondays: mornings 9-10:30 AM; evenings 7-8:30 PM. Both sessions held in the Parish Center Dates: April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; and May 7, 14, and 21. Study/discussion guides will be provided for $10. To sign up, call the Rectory , or Deacon Bill at w.kussmaul@verizon.net. See you there! Nativity BVM
