1 Fax: Celebrating 150 years of God s goodness 1868~2018 Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish develops, grows and sustains the Roman Catholic faith by enriching and nourishing the Body of Christ. We strive to fulfill our baptismal call by being the Hands of Christ in sharing our individual time, talents and treasures to grow as sacramental people. Gospel Summary John 2: It is not clear to scholars exactly what precipitated Jesus' reaction at the Temple. In what would appear to be a fit of anger, Jesus used a whip to drive out the animals. The Jews challenged Jesus, who replied, Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up. They thought Jesus was referring to the temple that had been under construction for forty years, but Jesus was speaking of the resurrection of the temple of his body a temple they did not recognize. Reflection for Families Think about ways your family members use everyday objects for purposes other than those for which they are intended. Perhaps a teenager responsible for taking out the garbage rolls the garbage can to the curb on his or her skateboard. An old blender might now be used to mix paints. A refrigerator box has been magically transformed into a fort. In today s Gospel, Jesus warns us that the Temple God the Father s house does not exist to serve as a marketplace or as a bank. It is a holy place with a holy purpose. Take a few moments to think about what happens in God s house, your parish church. Think about the purpose for which this house of God exists. Then think about your domestic Church, your Church of the home. Is it serving the purpose for which it was created? Is it a holy place with a holy purpose? Sunday, March 4, 2018 Third Sunday of Lent

3 Next Sunday, March 11th at the 10:00am Mass, we will celebrate the Communal Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. This is a beautiful and powerful Sacrament. Taking the oil of the infirm, blessed by the Bishop each Holy Thursday, the priest asks God to send the power of your Holy Spirit...make this oil a remedy for all who are anointed with it; heal them in body, in soul and in spirit, and deliver them from every affliction. The celebration of the Anointing of the Sick consists essentially in anointing the forehead and hands of each person. Any Catholic who is sick, chronically ill, anticipating surgery or in need of healing is encouraged to come next Sunday and receive this Sacrament. All are welcome, especially those who are suffering in any way, mind, body or spirit. Poor Box Donations during Lent will benefit the building of a Safe House for women and children fleeing domestic Violence in Delaware Country through the Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County, Inc. For more information visit: dapdc.org We are the Hands of Christ! On Sunday, March 11th at the 10:00am Mass, we will celebrate a Communal Anointing of the Sick. In the Church's Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, through the ministry of the priest, it is Jesus who touches the sick to heal them from sin and sometimes even from physical ailment. His cures were signs of the arrival of the Kingdom of God. The core message of his healing tells us of his plan to conquer sin and death by his dying and rising. The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient. When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God's will, the person be physically healed of illness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age. ~from the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults. Those who wish to receive the Sacrament are asked to inform the ushers and greeters in the back of Church of your intention. A reception will follow Mass in the Brick Building. Lent Stations of the Cross and Benediction on Fridays at 7pm Lenten Series- 33 Days to Morning Glory Tuesdays at 10-11:30am and 7-8:30pm in Parish Center Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturday Afternoons 3:30-4:30pm Monday, March 26th 12Noon-2pm Wednesday, March 28th 7-8:30pm Nativity BVM

We will also be serving pizza, beverages and dessert. Newcomers are welcome. The Knights of Columbus will once again be selling crab cakes in the Brick building after all Masses. Faith Formation Nativity BVM - Adoration Chapel Chapel Hours: Sun: 2pm to 11pm Mon-Fri: 7am to 11pm Sat: Closed Dear Parishioners: Today is the third Sunday of Lent. It is not too late to consider adding a visit to the Chapel as part of your Lenten practices. One of the best ways to deepen your relationship with Jesus is by spending some time in His presence. If you stop in the Chapel even for a short visit, please add your name to the Adoration sign in sheet. If you have any questions about the Adoration Chapel, I can be reached at cabf3029@gmail.com or by calling the rectory and leaving your phone number or address. God bless, Carol Farnan Come to Me all of you who are weary and find life burdensome and I will refresh you Mt 11:28 Mass Moments with Deacon Bill What is abstinence? When should we abstain, and from what? Abstinence in a Catholic sense typically means not eating meat or fowl. Traditionally abstinence from meat was observed every Friday. Today in the US, Catholics are required to abstain from meat on the 6 Fridays of Lent, as well as on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Welcome New Catholics!! Nativity BVM is blessed to announce that we will be welcoming six new Catholics this year!! The Elect (those not yet baptized) will be baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil on Saturday March 31; our Candidates (Christians baptized in another denomination) will also be confirmed at the Vigil. Our new members are (left to right): Eileen Hobbs, Sarah Rutter, Megan Pallen, Jennifer Rastegarpanah, Jason Murray, and Christian Murray. Praise God for his goodness in leading them to faith, and for blessing our parish with their presence, gifts and talents!! We welcome them warmly. Pray for them!! Our next meeting of the Book Club will be Wednesday, March 14th at 7pm in the Conference Room. We will be discussing the Pulitzer prize Nominee, Alice McDermott s new book entitled, The Ninth Hour. This work of fiction takes place in the 1950s Catholic Brooklyn. Books are available at the Rectory Office for $10. Access Code: JQGN Nativity BVM
