ANDREW S CELEBRATING OUR PAST SHAPING OUR FUTURE Volume 27 Number 10 St. Andrew s Episcopal Church, Lake Worth, Florida October 2016 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, We have five exciting events occurring this month here at St. Andrew s and they highlight the diversity that marks the nature of our life together. They also celebrate the wonderful nature of the God in Christ that we seek to follow on a daily basis. We invite everyone to bring their pets on Sunday, October 2nd for a blessing of animals as we commemorate the life of St. Francis and his love for all God s creation. Our friend and clergy colleague, Rabbi Jenny will officiate at a service of Kol Nidre as part of the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur on Tuesday, October 13th. We are grateful for the spiritual heritage we share with our Jewish sisters and brothers. Bishop Peter Eaton, our new Diocesan Bishop will be with us on Sunday, October 23rd to preach and celebrate and confirm and receive several of our members into the Episcopal Church. His visit puts us in mind of the unity we share with our sister congregations throughout the Diocese. On that same day, the 24th at 2pm, our artists -in-residence, Core Enseble will perform Los Valientes (The Courageous Ones) depicting several Hispanic luminaries in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. This is an opportunity for us to celebrate the cultural diversity we live with here in South Florida and throughout the nation. Finally, we will gather with our sister congregations of PEACE at the Community problems Assembly on Monday, October 24th at 7pm at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church to do justice in the areas of homelessness, youth crime and community ID s. This is chance to give voice to those in our community who have no voice and to make Palm Beach County a more just place. It is an honor to be part of a congregation like ours that understands and acts on the Baptismal Covenant that proclaims we will respect the dignity of every human being and do all we can to love our neighbors as our selves. May we always follow these Godly imperatives. Father Paul Watch over thy children, O Lord, as their days increase; bless and guide them wherever they may be. Strengthen them when they stand; comfort them when discouraged or sorrowful; raise them up if they fall; and in their hearts may thy peace which passeth understanding abide all the days of their lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Amen. OCTOBER ANNIVERSARIES 17 Julie and Bill Thomas BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS Bring your pets to church on Sunday, October 2nd for a Blessing of the Animals. We do this annually on the Sunday closest to the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. BISHOP S VISIT AND CONFIRMATION Bishop Eaton will visit St. Andrew s on Sunday, October 23rd and will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation at our 10AM service. This will be an opportunity to meet our new Diocesan Bishop and to support those who are being Confirmed and Received into the Episcopal Church and an opportunity for some to reaffirm their faith. CHOIR REHEARSALS Choir rehearsals have resumed on Thursdays at 7pm. Contact choir director Mark Lynch for questions or inquiries at lynch1556@bellsouth.net. LOS VALIENTES (THE COURAGEOUS ONES) On Sunday, October 23rd at 2PM the Core Ensemble will present this Jazz and theater production depicting Diego Rivera, Archbishop Romero and Zorro. Co-sponsored by the Farmworker Coordinating Council and the Norton Museum of Art. Honoring Hispanic Heritage Month. WAY CAFÉ The Way Cafe continues to feed the hungry each Saturday at our new location at Holy Redeemer Episcopal Church (3730 Kirk Road, Lake Worth). Meals will be served at the same time and volunteers needed at 2:45PM. Contact Joy Bayrouty ( ) or Joel Ballard ( )if you can help. OCTOBER TAIZE WORSHIP On the third Saturday of October our 6pm service offers the beauty of contemplative Taize music with healing prayers and communion. All are invited and welcome. TWELVE STEP EUCHARIST Just a reminder that our Eucharist on the fourth Saturday of each month incorporates the 12 Steps of recovery into the service. This Eucharist is open to everyone. This month the service is October 22nd at 6PM. KOL NIDRE SERVICE Rabbi Jenny will be conducting a Kol Nidre service here on Tuesday, October 11th at 6pm. All are welcome to attend. BIBLE STUDY A study of St. Paul s Letter to the Galatians is being held on Wednesdays at 7pm and led by Dick Lewallen. All are welcome to join the study. VESTRY NEWS Our next meeting is on Tuesday, October 18th at 7PM. A reminder that our financials are posted on the Bulletin Board in the Parish Hall hallway.

3 St. Andrew s News & Notes JUSTICE MINISTRY TEAM HOUSE MEETINGS There are two scheduled House meetings in October and we hope everyone will make an effort to attend one of them. The dates are: October 4 th and 5th. They will all be held here at the church. We continue to do great things in Palm Beach County and we need your support. We are following the command to do justice, love mercy and to walk humbly with our God. Our Community problems Assembly will take place on Monday, October 24th at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in West Palm Beach at 7PM. We need you there! COFFEE FELLOWSHIP We continue to need Coffee Hour hosts and hostesses each Sunday following the 10am service. Sign-up sheet is in the kitchen. There is money ($50) to help with purchases of refreshments for any who take on this valuable ministry. YOGA CLASSES Yoga classes are now being held on Monday and Wednesday at 6:15 at a new location: Move is at th Avenue North, Suite Check out the website at MEALS ON WHEELS The Meals on Wheels program is growing in the Lake Worth area and more volunteers are needed. The commitment is to deliver meals to homebound seniors one day a week. Call Debbie Emerick at to volunteer or to get further information. YOUTH NEWS October 14 6:30-9:30PM Youth Halloween Costume Party Please bring snack to share. Calendars for 2017 will soon be available for purchase from our youth. Contact Debra Carter for details (debracarter01@gmail.com) INTEGRITY OF PALM BEACH October Meeting Page 3 Integrity Palm Beach, a parish activity open to all, invites everyone to join us on the second Saturday, of each month at 7:00PM. Integrity-Palm Beach is the first and only chapter of Integrity in Palm Beach County. Throughout its ten years of existence, it has welcomed a number of speakers and guest clergy at monthly meetings. Integrity has also been a consistent presence in the community, inviting all people into the life of St. Andrew s and thereby fulfilling the parish s stated mission: To Share the Love of Christ in Word and Deed with all God s Children. Our next meeting will be on Saturday, October 8th following the 6PM service. Supper and program by Rand Hoch, President and Founder of the Palm beach County Human Rights Council and also an opportunity to register to vote. MURAL PROJECT The dedication tiles are now on the wall and will soon have a ceremony to bless and thank all who participated in this beautiful project. If you haven t seen it yet, please go and take a look at what all our big and small artists have accomplished. VOICES OF PRIDE BINGO Voices of Pride will host a night of Bingo on Friday, October 28th at 7pm. VOP are one of our Artists-in- Residence here at St. Andrew s. Tickets are $25. The deadline for notes and/or announcements for the Sunday Bulletin is Wednesday at noon. If it is after noon, you can leave a message on the church telephone, or leave an at saepiscopal@aol.com. The bulletin is printed on Thursday and the wonderful Church Ladies come in and fold and stuff them on Friday mornings. Keep in mind that the Prayer request list will begin anew each month. If you want the prayer requests to stay on the list for longer, just indicate that when getting the information to the office. The newsletter deadline for the November newsletter is October 20th. If you know of any events you would like to put in the newsletter or articles of interest, please them to the office. The Altar flower memorial and bequest form is in the Parish Hall. Suggested donation for this is $60. Thanks to all of you this year for your generosity and dedication for sponsoring the altar flowers.
