1 May 2018 CONNECTION Newsletter It seems as I prepare to turn the calendar page to May that my mind is also seeing June. This is the time of year when schedules seem to smash these two months into an amalgamation of do this and go to that and offer little single moments of unscheduled time to simply enjoy the day. Here in Wisconsin Spring truly arrives in May, just in time to release people s anxiety about getting the yard ready for that Memorial Day cookout. Teachers have the school year end in their sights and bombard students with assessments that culminate the years goals (and the State s requirements). Graduating seniors, having received more mail with their name on it in the last 8 months must claim their next step with pride and assurance that however fear-lilled laced their decision is that all will be well; and worried families begin to really embrace that it s not just the weather that is changing around them. No matter how busy these next eight weeks are for you I want to commend to you a daily discipline of attention to: God, Contents Neighbor and Self. TM May Into June We ve spent this entire seven week Easter Season studying how the new command from Jesus is being lived out in the Lledging communities of Acts and in the hearts of apostles who are coming to see their call as one of empowerment and collaboration through the Holy Spirit rather than solo star magic show. Jesus comes to individuals and groups to remind them that everyone (even the Gentiles and the Eunuch) are welcomed by God as faithful, able disciples equipped to serve in a world hungry and in need of the grace and love of God. May into June is a time when many of you will look toward plans for summer get-togethers, vacation and work projects. Be intentional about including God, caring for yourself and in thinking about how you can include others or help others for the betterment of ALL in the context of your daily life. Remember that the Church community exists because of the faithful presence of its members and committed friends. Practice, during this May into June time, keeping Church a valued and valuable part of your life through consistent worship, committed giving and considerable attention to the ministry we continue to offer every day of every month in this place. The green sheet will be Lilled with ideas to keep you grounded and connected as we jump from May into June and beyond. I look forward to being with you all along the way. 2 Upcoming Dates Church Office Update: New Office Person! The Church office has had a busy few weeks for our new office person Leah Reynolds! She has taken on the new role and has really enjoyed the warm welcome she has received from Pastor Kelly, as well as from the parishioners she has had the pleasure of meeting so far. Leah thanks you all for the warm welcome and patience while she learns her way around Bay View United Methodist Church! Please also pray for Chairman Kim Jong-un and President Moon Jae-in and their continuing partnership as our brothers and sisters in Korea approach a new dawn. We pray for a future of long-term peace and safety for Korea, the United States and our global community. 5 2018: Who do you know that LOVES to Golf? The Fourth Annual Bay View UMC Golf Outing is set for Saturday July 14, 2018 at South Hill Golf Course. Hole Sponsorships, Player/Team Registrations and Silent Auction prizes make this event a success! Grab your registration forms on the credenza outside of the Sanctuary or online at under the Events tab. Forms Team Registration and Hole Sponsorship forms are available at the Church or downloadable on the Church website. Non-Golfers and Families ALL are welcome to arrive at 4:00pm to participate in the silent auction, play Chuck-A-Duck, have a beverage on the patio, and then join the golfers for the Italian Buffet Dinner. Non-golfer ticket price is $15/person. Volunteers sign up at Church or Call the Church Office Volunteers are also needed for Event Day beginning at 9;00pm on Saturday, July 14th at South Hills. Auction set up, registration table, ticket sales, photo-documentation, hospitality and general Q & A assistance are all ways that you can help. Volunteers are provided lunch. Auction items requested! The auction has grown every year and is a big part of making this event successful toward meeting financial needs over the Summer. Business gift cards and packages, beautifully themed donated baskets, select sporting attire, home goods, items for outdoor fun and professional sports team tickets are ALL very much appreciated! 7 We just had our family Construction Night. We tried out many tools and built a small tool box. The month of May will be busy with a fire station field trip, Culver s night, and getting ready for our program. We will end the year with a musical program on May 23rd and recognize our 28 th graduating class. If you know of someone with a preschooler please let them know about Loving Start. We still have openings for fall.
