The Jacksboro Parish October 2015 Welcome Kristine Tisinger Kristine Tisinger has been called as the new youth director for the Parish and First United Methodist Church. Kristine graduated from TCU in 2010 with a Bachelor s degree in social work and became a Global Mission Intern with Global Ministries. She worked in Johannesburg, South Africa at a Theological college and fell in love with the country and the continent. After three years in South Africa she was appointed as Global Ministries missionary to Ghana where she served as the assistant director of an orphanage for street children and as the English teacher at a school for teenage mothers. Kristine arrive back in Texas in September and plans to pursue her Master s degree in social work next fall. From now until January Kristine will be traveling around the U.S. to speak about the work being done in Ghana and will stay connected with the youth via social media and Skype. She wants to thank everyone in Jacksboro for the warm welcome she has received. Youth Instagram: JacksboroYouthCenter Snapchat: JacksboroYouth youthdirector@jacksboroparish.com Cell Phone: This special offering assists in efforts to promote healing, relationship and restoration in the whole family of God. The year 2015 has catapulted the conversation about human brokenness evidenced in the sin of racism and perpetuated in our institutional structures and systems. Your generous giving to Reconciliation Ministry is transforming lives and strengthening Christ s witness in the world that we love one another, even as Christ continues to love us! Give generously on October 4th in worship.

GRACEISTS is our latest and greatest offering to our Women s Ministry program! How would you like a group that meets in the evenings on the second Wednesday of the month to explore the themes of spirituality, recovery, honesty in community, the church, prayer, growth and transformation, evangelism, love and of course Jesus and God, as women of faith? This fall join us on a BRUTIFUL journey with blogger Glennon Doyle Melton and her musings. THIS MONTH: REFUSING TO DANCE Why do we show up to the party and refuse to dance? Glennon Doyle Melton, author of the NYT Bestselling Carry On, Warrior and founder of Momastery.com, encourages us to accept God s greatest invitation and finally start enjoying the party. WHEN? 7p, October 14 WHERE? Roxanna Maddox Home Snacks and drinks will be served. Beginning at the Jack County Court House, 100 N. Main Street, continue traveling North on Highway 281, 11.6 miles, veer right at the Hwy 114/Hwy 281 ( Y remaining on Hwy 281 N. Continue on Hwy 281 N for 4.2 miles from the y ). Live A Little Lane will be on the West (left) side of Highway 281. You will see the Maddox Home sign at the entrance to the property near the cattle guard. If you go as far as the Roney/ Martin Road intersection, you have gone too far and will need to turn around. After traveling over the cattle guard and entering the property, follow Live A Little Lane 1.4 mile (veer right at the Y by the pond) and continue on to the home.
Youth activities for October: October has a lot of great opportunities for youth and youth sponsors to get involved in the community and in the life of the church. This month s theme is hospitality. Police Night Out is being held on Tuesday, October 6th at Jacksboro Middle School and will take the place of Wednesday s meeting. Police Night Out offers a chance to meet and get to know police, EMTs, and other public service workers protecting our community. On October 19th everyone is invited to help distribute food at the Jacksboro Food Shelter located at 321 North 2nd street. Volunteers are welcome to show up any time between 2-6 p.m. A special speaker from the Chamber of Commerce will be coming to speak with youth at our meeting on October 28th. Thee are two rallies happening at Disciples Crossing in Athens, TX this November. The Chi Rho rally for middle schoolers is November 6-8 and the theme is Survivor: Wilderness. They will find out how the Hebrews survived for 40 years in the wilderness by playing Survivor-the, Ed games and doing interactive Bible study. A CYF rally for high schoolers takes place November with the theme of Be a Gift. Participants will discover their spiritual gifts and find ways to use them to serve God and the world. Each of the rallies costs $90 but Jacksboro Parish will pay for half. We are looking for brave adult sponsors to attend each of these events as well. Be sure to save the dates of the mid-winter retreats in Athens: JYF (grades 3-5) on January 22-24, 2016; Chi Rho (grades6-8) on February19-21, 2016.
Chi Rho Fall Retreat: Survivor: Wilderness The theme of the Chi Rho Fall Retreat will be Survivor: Wilderness. We ll be learning about the Hebrews 40-year detour through the wilderness. Through a combination of Survivorthemed games and interactive Bible studies, we will find out how Moses and his followers managed to survive in the wilderness for so long. As always, there will also be awesome worship services, large group games, and plenty of free time to explore our beautiful camp. Registration for the retreat will be November 6th between 8:00 and 9:00 pm. The retreat will end on November 8th at 10:00 am. Chi Rho Fall Retreat is open to all youth in grades 6 through 8 and their adult sponsors. The cost of the event is $90 per person, but church pays 1/2 of Online registration for each camper and adult sponsor must be completed 2 weeks before the event. A registration link is posted to Presbytery Retreat Mark your calendars now for an event with a well-known church consultant and author, Dr. Roy Oswald. Dr. Oswald was with the Alban Institute for many years. The retreat is for pastors, church professionals. Committee on Ministry members and session members. It will involve discussion of Dr. Oswald s book, The Emotional Intelligence of Jesus. The event is scheduled to begin on Sunday evening, February 28, 2016 and end at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Ceta Canyon Retreat Center in Happy, Texas. The cost for each participant will be $ The book is available from Amazon.com in printed or e-book format. Watch for more details. CYF Fall Retreat: Be a Gift The fall can be so busy with football, band, schoolwork and much, much more. This also means that fall is the perfect time to take a break, catch your breath and check in with God on Holy Ground. We hope to have over 150 youth gather at Disciples Crossing to worship, play, learn and pray together at CYF Fall Retreat. Our theme for the weekend is Be a Gift. We believe every person has been given a unique gift from God. This retreat will help you discover your spiritual gifts and find ways to use them to serve God and the world. Registration for the retreat will be on November 13th between 8:00 and 9:00 pm. The retreat will end on November 15th at 10:00 am. For CYF Retreat only, campers can also register between 8:00 am and 9:00 am on Saturday morning. We hope this flexibility will give campers with busy fall schedules the option to attend. CYF Fall Retreat is open to all youth in grades 9 through 12 and their adult sponsors. The cost of the event is $90 per person, but church pays 1/2 of the fee!

I ve been thinking a lot about dinner tables. I find it most meaningful that some of my greatest moments with people who share table with one another. From stories, laughter, negotiating who passes what when, these times are holy. It is when we really see people and listen about their journey. It never fails that I learn somethings new about the richness of diversity surrounding us at a table. Jesus though tables were of paramount, too. In every gospel account we have multiple stories of Jesus interacting with humanity at their messiest around the table. No matter the circumstance, there was always room. The first Sunday of October, World Communion Sunday, Offers congregations an opportunity to experience Holy Communion with the global community of faith. The first Sunday of October has become a time when Christians in every culture break bread and pour the cup to remember and affirm Christ as the Head of the Church. On that day, we remember that we are part of the whole body of believers. Christians celebrate the communion liturgy in as many ways as there are congregations. World Communion Sunday can be both a profound worship experience and a time for learning more about our wider community of faith. This year, in worship we will enjoy a time of special liturgy around tables in the midst of our GOSPEL ACCORDING TO PIXAR series as we look at the file, Brave. We will also have some special bread to choose from in our communion service, too. I encourage you to make this special Sunday a part of your celebrations in worship this month. And then, invite someone to dinner. Or several someones. It s the gospel thing to do.
