1 17 February 2019 The third Sunday before Lent; [BCP] Septuagesima Welcome A warm welcome to everyone, and especially if you are new or visiting. Do please stay on for drinks and to meet people after the 9.30 and services and keep this welcome sheet for your prayers this week. Prayer with the Anglican Communion we pray for the Church of the Province of Central Africa; for Archbishop Justin; for Bishops Tim and David the Sisters of St Andrew in Lyon, among them Sister Katie Seal our mission giving: 200 for the Olive Branch, a Christian counselling service for people living in Winchester and the surrounding area for the Rohingya refugees in camps along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border as the cyclone season is about to begin; for the political will to find solutions that our churches may be enlivened places where people discover their true identity, a welcoming and caring community, and the perspective given by faith all who work with older people, and those who offer friendship and hospitality those who live with poor mental health, their families and those who care for them all for whom each day is long, and those who live with constant physical pain give thanks for our Parish Visitors team and Jan Walley co-ordinating their pastoral service to the frail, the bereaved, the lonely and the troubled the unwell: Caroline Behan, Christopher and Clifford Browne, Henry Drew, Vera Edwards, Liz Elsworthy, Judy Golding, Andrew James, Julia Jones, Laura Liepins, Emma and Mark Miller, Kate Morgan, Hugh Peskett, Les Scott, Jane Seal and Nicki Smith; all awaiting appointments or treatments those who have died recently, including Andrew Parsons, Daphne Smith and Brian Woodruff; all who live with the pain of untimely death; God s comfort for their families and friends and all who remember loved ones Please feel free to put prayer requests on the board at the back of church or them to admin@stmatthewstpaul.org. Lady Chapel is set up for prayer, either alone or with one of the prayer ministry team, after the 9.30 parish communion service.

Amen. 1 Corinthians 15: [p. 798] Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation has been in vain and your faith has been in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified of God that he raised Christ whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised. If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have died in Christ have perished. If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep. Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets. Community Day leaders We are delighted to announce this year s leadership team: Kat Marsden (age 10), Adrienne Marsden and Roger Jones. The theme will be The Circus (The Greatest Showman). Mary Copping occasionally goes on a street run with a team on Saturday evenings, taking soup and sandwiches to homeless people sleeping rough. One of the main needs at the moment is for blankets (duvets and sleeping bags are awkward to carry so often get left behind). 7 Care4Calais thank you William Brook-Hart writes, Thank you so much to all of you who donated coats and other items to Care4Calais. A batch was delivered before Christmas, and I took a second car load over. These were especially welcomed in the cold weather by people who have little or no shelter. Any gifts unsuitable for Calais are sent to Syria or to Shelter UK. We are still collecting donations at 147 Greenhill Road (869292), if you have any! Trinity Centre Donations of men s and women s casual clothes, shoes and warm items appreciated; contact lucy@trinitywinchester.org.uk. Winchester women s refuge A safe haven for women and children fleeing domestic abuse. Please help by leaving towels and toiletries in the box at the back of church. Nightshelter Please leave donations of black bin bags in the box at the back of St Paul s. Plastic bottle tops Help reduce plastic waste and raise money for Lanterns, the nursery school on Bereweeke Road. Please put washed type 2 or 4 plastic tops in the crate at the back of. Interested in meeting people/getting involved? Toddler group (0 3 years) runs on Thursdays, am in the parish rooms: play, craft, singing, stories and snacks (coffee, etc. for grown-ups!)
