Please let us know! When you or someone you love is unable to come to church, church can come to you. We have trained communion ministers and of course a pastor who are glad to share the grace of God s meal. are. We are dust. Our bodies, our hearts, our minds, our wills, our relationships are but dust. Unstable. Temporary. Tainted with human evil, and fundamental human frailty. Destined for the grave.

7 MESSAGE FROM PASTOR LUCY All go to one place; all are from the dust, and all turn to dust again. Ecclesiastes 3:20 Lent is the season that leads us to Easter. That is its purpose: to prepare us, individually and as a community, for the biggest party of the Christian year the festival that stretches 50 days as we celebrate the unimaginable Good News that Christ is Risen Yet, Lent doesn t feel like preparation for a party. Lent can feel more like preparation for a funeral. And, in a sense, it is because the first job in Lent, the first step in finding our path to that Easter Party, is to remember how fragile & frail, how impossibly broken & powerless we human beings are. We are dust. Our bodies, our hearts, our minds, our wills, our relationships are but dust. Unstable. Temporary. Tainted with human evil, and fundamental human frailty. Destined for the grave. That is, at the end of the day, the 2 nd biggest thing we have in common as human beings: we are frail; we are dust. Which is partly why this year we ll be marking the Lenten Journey with our siblings from different Christian traditions and churches in our community. Together, despite all our differences in practices and hymnody and beliefs, together we are marked by that cross of ashes we receive on Ash Wednesday, united in our human frailty and desperate need for a Savior. This year I invite you to journey through Lent with us one Wednesday at a time at various churches in our community. Each week a different congregation will host, and a different pastor (one not from the host congregation) will preach. It gives us a chance to see friends & neighbors in their home setting, experience their styles and practices in worship, and make new friends! But perhaps most importantly it gives us a chance to journey through Lent reminded of the 2 most important things that unite us as Christians: we are all frail human beings; and we are all so cherished by God that, in the midst of our frailty, God comes to us in Jesus the frail One who will die for us, and the powerful One who will rise for us! Make it part of your Lenten experience this year to join us a united Christian community of frail and grateful siblings in Christ as we gather each Wednesday around Beloit. You will be stretched, probably discomforted at times, and definitely encouraged. And when Easter comes, may you find your heart ready to party! After a break, Pastor Lucy's regular "Coffee & Conversation" time is back! Meet with her THURSDAYS 8:30-10am at West Side Family Restaurant. This is a chance to talk about anything you'd like - prayer concerns, faith questions, Sunday's sermon, or anything else on your mind! (And if Thursday mornings don't work for you, please her to set up a time to talk - pastor@stpaulbeloit.org). Confirmation Our spring 2019 Confirmation programming will involve a 3-pronged approach: 1. Confirmation lessons on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 pm; 2. A private Facebook group for students, parents & guardians, and mentors where we ll interact around short videos & open-ended questions; 3. Mentors from the congregation who meet with their assigned student about once a month. We need YOUR help St. Paul! Would you be willing to be paired with a student as an adult mentor? No special knowledge or extra-saintly character is necessary just a willingness to be a loving, supportive adult & share your own faith journey with a young disciple! Please let Pastor Lucy know (you can her at pastor@stpaulbeloit.org, or call the church to speak with her.) We could also use adults to be present on Tuesday nights and support Pr. Lucy (again, no special skills or knowledge required!).
