It s time again for us to prepare for our Soup Lunch Christmas Gift Shop. We could use donations of warm blankets, gloves, hats, scarves, and socks. Personal care items such as shampoo, soaps, toothpaste and toothbrushes, razors and shaving cream, and laundry detergent. If you have other items, we will gladly accept them. If you are unable to shop, we will accept donations and shop for you. Contact Murphys or Oswalds with questions. Thank You! We will again order Poinsettias for the Sanctuary at Christmastime. Each plant is $15.00 and must be ordered by Tuesday, December 12th. You may also bring your own Poinsettia plant at any time. Order forms are in the Bulletin and you may also call the Church Office to order.

7 December Newsletter Message from the President Dear Family & Friends of St. Paul On Sunday November 19th I was one of the presenters at our Commitment Worship Service. Theme given the presenters was "Why Do I Serve?" My answer to that is, to serve God and return some of the love and friendship I have received for being part of this congregation. I would like to highlight the opportunity to be on the Church Council. It is probably viewed by many to be the hardest, most time consuming or the least fun jobs in the church. But, it is also very important and it can be very fulfilling. Another point I want to make it that you never alone. There are the other members of the council that will support you. You also have a teams behind you, like Finance, Parish Ed, Stewardship, Music & Worship Property and others. A person doesn't have to be an accountant to be the treasurer, an MBA to be the president or a computer geek to be the secretary. We can and have adapted meeting schedules to certain situations. In January we will have our annual meeting where we will elect new members to a 2 year term. We are currently one member short and will have two whose terms will end. Please consider the Church Council as a way to serve your God and Congregation. Your Friend in Christ Ken Harris Starting at the Thanksgiving Eve Service we will be selling VIRGINIA S ANGELS These angels are individually crafter from the many handkerchiefs that we found in Virginia Knutson s collection. We will be selling them at each church service until Christmas. They will be $5.00 each and the money will be used by the youth of St. Paul who are planning to attend the National Youth Gathering in Houston next summer. Advent Family Fun Night And Potluck As we celebrate our intergenerational year with our Believers Club we invite Grandmas and Grandpas, Aunts and Uncles and everyone to come join in the fun on Sunday December 3, at 5 PM. Bring a dish to pass and enjoy a great meal! Wear that ugly sweater for our Ugly Sweater Contest! Make a manger scene or enjoy making other crafts at the craft booth! Dress up in our Costume/Photo Shop for that family photo. Watch the Christmas Story unfold as we listen to the story of the Crippled Lamb!

8 Interim Senior Pastor s Column Happy New Year! No, I m not confused. I know it is December, 2017 not January, Though we are in the world, we are not of the world. This is our New Year the beginning of the season of Advent December 3rd. It is a time for us to prepare for the Coming of Jesus as a baby, born and laid in a manger. We will be decorating the church: putting up wreaths, trees, new banners, and the like. We will gather together on December 3 rd for fellowship. Crafts and a meal in a traditional Hanging of the Greens Celebration. I do hope you are planning to be here. We are familiar with doing the preparing of our physical space. We may have been waiting to enjoy the Christmas music on the radio. But at church we will remain in preparation mode with music that reflects our time of joyful anticipation of Christmas celebration to come. We don t want to rush headlong into Christmas, we need to be patient and enjoy the anticipation. Each Sunday will give us a new focus as we move in our journey to the Christmas Eve celebration. And, as we do that, we will be discerning the will of God for us as we move forward in this new year. This is a time for us to be in joyful anticipation of what is coming. And that joy is fortified by knowing God is guiding us in our life here if but listen for that guidance. We are journeying through life, discerning God s will in our journey. I pray you will be enriched in this new year to see God present in your life journey. I pray that you will make space for God in this new year in a deeper way than you ever have before. I pray that your voicing your commitment to God be put into action as you remember what God requires as we read in Micah 6. Our words of faith fulness to God are lived out when we do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God. That is how we prepare for the coming of Christ. Happy New Year church. I sought scholarship funds for our youth and received notice that each of our youth was awarded a $300 scholarship toward their registration fees to MYLE/ Gathering This is means we can focus our fundraising on costs for housing, transportation and food. Thank you for your generosity in supporting our youth as they continue their fundraising efforts.
