3 February 2018 Knight Letter Council 722 Established in 1903 Grand Knight Larry Lenhardt Web: Editors: Fran and Jackie Goettl The KC Charity Fish Fry Friday, March 30th! Mark your calendars now! Grand Knight s Column From your Grand Knight: As I write this month, I want to thank each and every person who helped make the Seafood Buffet Fund Raiser a success this last week Friday. Thanks to each of you who helped plan the event, brought desserts, worked the register, cleaned tables, worked in the kitchen, and all of you who came and ate, without your continued participation this event could not happen! I was asked if this was going to happen again and YES we are doing another one during Lent on Friday, March 2, 2018 and will again look forward to your participation. Within the next two weeks (February 14, Ash Wednesday) will be the beginning of Lent, and I know that I am preparing myself for the Celebration of Easter. What are you doing? Each of us has our own way to celebrate this season from fasting, meditating, and limiting ourselves (abstaining if possible) on our consumption of meat. Many of us will be sharing time with others on Fridays by going out to eat fish at our favorite restaurants, but don t forget to give praise to our Lord and spend a moment saying grace and thanks for all we have. Come join your Brothers and their families on March 30th (Good Friday) at the KC Center for our Fifth Friday Fish Fry. Then just a few days later celebrate Easter by going to Church with family and friends and celebrate Jesus resurrection from the dead, making it possible for February 1 Officer Meeting 5:45 3 KC Knowledge Contest; Reg. 8:45a; Contest 9a; Van Treeck Hall; St. Peter Claver 8 Family Rosary 6:30; KC Membership Meeting 7; Ladies Aux Fourth Degree Officers 7pm at the KC Center 13 Holy Hour for Vocations at St. Clement Parish 4 14 Happy Valentine s Day Ash Wednesday 15 3rd Thursday $2 Burger Night th Degree Meeting; Social 6; Dinner 7:00; Wagon Wheel, Howards Grove March 1 Officer Meeting 5:45 2 Seafood Buffet 5:30-7:30; RSVP 8 Family Rosary 6:30; KC Membership Meeting 7; Ladies Aux th Degree Spaghetti Dinner at the Sheboygan KC Center; Fourth Degree Officers 7pm at the KC Center 13 Holy Hour for Vocations at St. Clement 4 PM 17 2 nd &3 rd Degree at Council 664 Fond Du Lac 21 4th Degree Meeting Social 6, Dinner 7 Sheboygan KC Center 25 Ladies Souper Bowl 3-6 at KC Center 30 5 th Friday Fish Fry

4 each of us to enter God s Heavenly Kingdom. Finally, remember that the Knights are all about Charity, Unity, and Fraternity, and don t forget all those who are gone from our lives, remember them in your prayers, and pray for our brothers and sisters who are ill or in distress. If you know of someone who needs these prayers please let me know so they can be added to our list here at the K of C Council 722. ViVa Jesus, GK Lawrence (Larry) Lenhardt, LLenhardt@aol.com Chaplain s Column Brother Knights and Families, We have a very unique coincidence this Lenten season. Ash Wednesday is on Valentine s Day, Feb. 14th and Easter is on April 1st, April Fool s Day. Non-believers assert that one of the greatest hoaxes given to the world is the Resurrection. Another one is God creating the world. Maybe Ash Wednesday on Valentine s Day can remind us that Lent is really about focusing on God s love in our life and how to give evidence of that love in our daily living. What is God s love? Remember what St. Paul said in Chapter 12 of Corinthians Love is patient, kind, not jealous, not pompous, not inflated, not rude, does not brood over injury, does not rejoice over wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. It believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. True love never fails. I also add that love is also comforting, hopeful, peaceful and forgiving regardless of who is at fault. During Lent we are invited to once again refocus on what it means to be a believer, a follower of Jesus. We often complicate our lives, but Lent reminds us to keep Christian life simple. Our usual practice of giving up something during Lent and then return to it when Lent is over, is an attempt to return to the basics. A prayer to help us return to the basics is the Prayer of St. Francis. What truth in that prayer do I need to deepen in the way I live? Have a meaning full Lent! Fr. Dick Pope Francis Prayer Intentions for February Vatican City, 1 February 2018 (VIS) The Holy Father's prayer intention for February is Universal: Say No to Corruption: That those who have material, political or spiritual power may resist any lure of corruption.

7 Campus Corner Seton Fifth grade has been busy in the month of January. In writing, the students did a Westward Expansion research paper that looked into an important event that contributed to the growth of America. Now they are conducting their own interviews, surveys, and experiments around the school, and using that information to reflect upon. This goes along with what they are covering in reading with using primary and secondary sources to help with finding information. In social studies the students have been discussing and learning about the Revolutionary War, and they had a debate on whether the British or the Colonists were to blame for the start of it. Then it s on to the Constitution of America, and how it shaped our country. Math has been full of fractions, subtracting and adding, and will continue to be about fractions when we start multiplying and dividing them. Science has been very hands-on with multiple mini-experiments or labs that the students have conducted. We ve been learning about the properties of matter and classifying things. One of the students favorite experiments was making their own slime and figuring out how to classify it using their knowledge of properties. We are moving into the body systems which are always exciting for the students to learn about. In religion the students have been learning about the Sacraments; mainly the Sacrament of Confirmation and its importance to the students. Nick Wilson

8 Campus Corner - CCA The CCA 8th grade class attended the annual 8th Grade Retreat at Roncalli High School on Wednesday, January 10th. The retreat provided an opportunity to celebrate the real-life disciples that each and every one of us can be. Christ Child Academy recently held the school level of the 2018 Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Sam Preder, an 8th grader, who is the school champion and will be competing at the Regional Level Spelling Bee held at Acuity on Thursday, January 25th. The 2018 Calendar Raffle sale has concluded. Thank you to everyone who supported CCA by purchasing calendars. The number of calendars sold totaled 1400 and equates to a profit of about $20,000. Good luck to everyone throughout the year in having your name selected. National Catholic Schools Week began with Mass on Saturday, January 27 and continues through Friday, February 2. This year our countywide mass was celebrated at Immaculate Conception parish on Tuesday, January 30. Schools in attendance were St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, CCA, and SJB.The theme of our celebration is Catholic Schools: Learn, Serve, Lead, Succeed. CCA celebrates with a variety of fun activities and service projects throughout the week. The students always enjoy Crazy Hair Day and Pajama Day, as well as the Penny War to benefit the SPC food pantry, and the Project Angel Hugs collection to benefit and brighten the days of young people in our area suffering with cancer. We also pray the rosary daily.the theme encompasses the core products and values that can be found in Catholic schools across country. Please use the envelopes found at the end of the pews or in your church envelope packets to make a donation to help secure Catholic education for the future. We appreciate any size donation you would be willing to share. The Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Religious and Independent Schools Accreditation (WRISA) proudly announced on December 20, 2017 the accreditation of Christ Child Academy. The press release states: We applaud the accomplishments of Christ Child Academy community and its commitment to ongoing school improvement and high standards of excellence, remarked Beatrice Weiland, WRISA s executive director. Christ Child Academy will be holding an Open House during Catholic Schools Week on Wednesday, January 31 at 6:00 pm. If you or someone you know is interested in touring the school and discovering what Christ Child Academy has to offer, this would be a great opportunity. Christ Child Academy recently held the school level of the 2018 Geography Bee. Congratulations to Lauren Brickley, an 8th grader, who will be administered an electronic test provide by National Geographic. Her results will be reviewed, along with other finalists, to determine who qualifies for further competition. Melissa Raff
