September 1958 was when our United Methodist Women and United Methodist Men Groups were started. In 1965, The Mariners Girl Scout Troop was formed and led by Mr. & Mrs. David Van Vleet. In September 1967, Osborne Day Care Center began using our facilities as their school the first Keenagers Social Group (for 50+) was formed at Lakeside. In February of 1970, L.O.V.E. (Lake Osborne Volunteer Educators) began a tutoring program with elementary children in the community. A Bell Choir was organized by Marilyn Van Vleet in The Lakeside UMC mortgage burning ceremony was held in April In 1988, Membership was at an all time high of A Peace Pole was erected at the north west corner of the playground and an eternal light was placed in the sanctuary in In the summer of 1992, teams went to Homestead, FL to help after Hurricane Andrew; a new van was purchased, a garage was built for it with church members buying cement blocks to help with the cost. April 2000, was the kickoff for the 12th Avenue Station, a coffeehouse style worship, held on Saturdays in Fellowship Hall. Between 2001 and 2002 a Spanish Sunday School class was formed with Loida, the aunt of the director of Christian Education. In October 2002, a Public Charter School for Mentally Challenged High School students opened at Lakeside. Seagull Industries and the Palm Beach County School Board added over $30,000 in improvements to the education wing. A new handicapped bathroom was installed on the east side of the building. The sidewalk was raised level to the doors to make each room handicap accessible. The rooms were joined, doors added for escape accessibility and 2 back doors added. All fire systems were brought up to code with a dedicated alarm to the fire department. Next month we will bring you more interesting history of Lakeside UMC.

12 Lakeside United Methodist Church th Ave. S. Lake Worth, FL Phone: Fax: David Branson, Pastor Newsletter Editor: Carolyn Ludwig We have a Place for You! Sunday Small Groups 8:45 AM Sunday Worship 10:00 AM Bible Sunday Nov. 20th- National Bible Week in the United States is annually observed from Sunday to Sunday of Thanksgiving week. It has been so observed since 1941 when President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the first national proclamation. In the sixtysix years since, every president has issued a national proclamation, as have many governors and mayors, with U.S. senators and representatives also reading celebratory speeches into the Congressional Record. LAKESIDEUMCHURCH.ORG All Saints Sunday Nov. 6th All Saints (November 1 or the first Sunday in November) is a day of remembrance for the saints, with the New Testament meaning of all Christian people of every time and place. We celebrate the communion of saints as we remember the dead, both of the Church universal and of our local congregations. Organ and Tissue Donor Sunday Nov. 13th During National Donor Sabbath, faith leaders, donor families, transplant recipients, and donation and transplantation professionals participate in services and programs to increase awareness of the need for the lifesaving and enhancing gifts passed to others through transplantation and encourage people to sign up in their state registry. Those who donate organs, tissues, and blood stem cells restore hope and share gifts beyond measure. International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church Nov. 13th A day when congregations & Christians around the World pray for other Christians who are living under persecution. Reign of Christ/Christ the King Sunday-Nov. 20th In 1925, the Roman Catholic Church declared this day as a worldwide celebration of the kingship of Christ over every earthly power. Its timing at the conclusion of the Season after Pentecost was cemented both by Vatican II and the subsequent Protestant developments of the lectionary and the Christian Year, including our own Book of Worship.
