3 May 14,2017 Acts 6:1-7 1 peter 2:4-9 John 14:1-12 The life of our parish is guided by the parish mission which is to educate, form and transform persons into disciples of Christ and to foster their active participation in the life, work and mission of the Church. All parishes are called to be schools of discipleship assisting the People of God with the ongoing life long conversion required to be followers of Jesus Christ. It is in our parishes, families and in the world that we are living witnesses to Christ s love and the faith we profess. Discipleship is our invitation to continue Christ s saving mission here and now and through generous stewardship change the world! Are you new to the area or new to St. Rose of Lima? We invite you to consider enrolling in our wonderful parish. You will be contacted to set-up a new member meeting. The meetings are held in the rectory on Sunday mornings at either 10am or 12pm. Stewardship Reflection for Fifth Sunday of Easter May 13/14: In the reading from the Acts of the Apostles we see how the first community of Christians gathered together to discern and resolve how to care for each others needs. As good stewards of the sisters and brothers who gathered around the Eucharistic table, the community of faith selected those among them who were to ensure that no one was neglected. How do we resolve to serve the needs of our parish family? How do we ensure that those who might be perceived to be the least of our brothers and sisters are not left alone and neglected? 4 Do you know anyone who is homebound and unable to get to Mass? Recovering from a hospitalization or illness? Our Justin Ministers are specifically trained to visit those who cannot be with us to share the Sunday Gospel, hear about the homily, pray with someone on behalf of our community and receive Communion. If you, or a family member or neighbor, would like a visit, either temporarily or indefinitely, please contact the parish office at HOSPITAL VISITATION: We are dedicated to visiting the sick because Jesus has shown us that our presence to them is not simply comforting but healing. Hospitals in recent years have been forced to carefully monitor visits by non-family members. Clergy, therefore, are welcome but must know beforehand, who is currently being treated in a hospital or other healthcare facility. Therefore, please notify us when a member of your family is currently or shortly will be hospitalized or in another healthcare facility so that we can be a familiar presence to them during their stay in a local hospital, rehab center or nursing home. Please call the parish office at and leave the name and location of your family member. Sharing God s Blessings Archdiocesan Annual Appeal: Pledge envelopes and information on this year s appeal can be found in the vestibule of the church. Please consider making your gift to support the many vital programs and ministries of the Archdiocese of Newark. You can make a one-time gift or a pledge which can be redeemed over the next year. Completed pledge envelopes can be returned in the offertory collection, mailed to the parish office or dropped off at the Devine Center. 7 First Eucharist Celebrations! Last weekend, we continued our parish celebrations of First Eucharist. Over this weekend the remaining children will receive the sacrament. Let us pray for these youngsters as they are welcomed to the Eucharistic table. Congratulations and thanks to the families, catechists, relatives, friends and parishioners who have helped these children during their preparation process.

18 May Crowning This week the parish celebrated the Blessed Virgin Mary at our annual May Crowning. Members of all three choirs, (Adult choir, Family Mass Group, and Children s choir) led us in song as we honored Mary our Mother. We began with the joyful mysteries of the rosary and song followed by a procession of parish organizations and our Marian Court. The image of Our Lady and the Christ Child was crowned by parish seniors in high school. The Litany of our Lady was accompanied by a procession of artistic renderings of the many titles of Mary. Thank you to all parish organizations and all those who attended.

22 Alphabet Explorations: The Pre K -3 class continues their yearlong exploration of the alphabet. Recently they focused on the letters V and W. A few of the activities have included painting with vegetables, playing with vehicles and caring for their stuffed animals in the Veterinarian Center. Our favorite activity for the letter V was creating a volcano and of course, setting it off! For W they have been patiently watching and waiting for our butterflies to appear. To pass the time until that happens, they have been playing with Waffle blocks, Wedgits and learning about Watermelon.

25 SRL PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY Our aim is to knit or crochet God s love and care into shawls for those in need. We meet on the 2nd and the 4th Wednesday of the month, in the Dougherty Center from 1:00-2:30pm. Upcoming dates are May 24 and June 14. Come join us, to share the joy of creating and sharing.
