Become part of Our Church Family Stewardship Reflection for Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Weekend of March 2/3, 2019 For every tree is known by its own fruit. Jesus states this principle in today s Gospel reading to illustrate a parallel stewardship principle in our spiritual lives. Just as a good tree bears good fruit and a bad tree bears bad fruit, so also the good steward produces good and an evil person evil. This is no coincidence. Our words and actions are outward expressions of what lies in our hearts. It is out of the store of goodness in his heart that the good person produces good and out of the store of evil in his heart that the evil person produces evil. A reflection for the week: How are our words and actions accurately reflecting what lies deep in our hearts?

Please join us for this special event led by Joan Schultz and Sr. Sandy who will be presenting the Virtus Vulnerable Adults program. Since 2003, as a Church we have been educating adults on the issue of child sexual abuse and creating safe environments through the Virtus Protecting God s Children program. One of the newest offerings of the Virtus ongoing training is this new program aimed at educating adults about the abuse of vulnerable adults. The term vulnerable adults applies to people with a physical, mental, or emotional condition or an illness that renders them unable to defend themselves, protect themselves, or get help for themselves when injured or emotionally abused. The term also applies to elderly persons. Among vulnerable adults, the abusers patterns are similar to the behavioral patterns of those that abuse children. In particular, there are those who seek out and groom vulnerable adults and those who take advantage of particular situations and give into the pressures of those events by abusing others. These abusers are primarily found among the family members, caregivers, and others who are known and trusted by the adults. Vulnerable adults do suffer from sexual abuse, but they also suffer from physical abuse just as children do. In fact, only an estimated one percent of abuse of the elderly is sexual. However, financial exploitation is a major form of abuse within this group. During our discussions, we will provide you with additional relevant information about the nature and scope of the broader problem of the abuse of vulnerable adults. Your participation will enable you to learn the tools you need to protect yourself and others from this form of abuse. 17 ARCHDIOCESE OF NEWARK TO CELEBRATE WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES Each year, the Archdiocese of Newark holds special Masses and celebrations honoring those couples in our Archdiocese who will be celebrating five, twenty-five and fifty years of Christian marriage in the year These anniversary liturgies will be celebrated by Cardinal Joseph Tobin in the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark as follows: Sunday, April 28, :00 PM 50 years Sunday, June 2,2019 3:00 PM 5 years and 25 years If you are celebrating one of these special anniversaries this year and would like to attend the celebrations, please contact Mary Jean in the parish office at A Lenten Stewardship Idea: Rice Bowl If you are searching for a way to bring Lenten stewardship practices home to your family in a very visual way, consider Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl. Rice Bowl incorporates the three pillars of Lent, prayer, fasting and almsgiving, while raising our consciousness of the poor and vulnerable in our world community. Last year, 14,000 Catholic communities participated in Rice Bowl. Our parish and school is one of these, and you will receive a symbolic cardboard rice bowl and calendar in the Lenten Mailing sent to all parishioners. Additional boxes will be distributed to students through Religious Education and the Academy. You can pick up additional rice bowls in the back of church, at Way Walkers or at Lenten Small Group sessions.

18 STEM The first grade is working on Balance and Motion in science. They are balancing shapes on their fingers and on popsicle sticks. They are creating their own tops and spinning around the room! They are observing objects in a stable and unstable state and exploring rolling systems with different sized wheels. Our last exploration will be with the motion of rolling spheres, culminating with a class made rollercoaster. Fun times in first grade science!

Hospital Visitation: We are dedicated to visiting the sick because Jesus has shown us that our presence to them is not simply comforting but healing. Hospitals in recent years have been forced to carefully monitor visits by non-family members. Clergy, therefore, are welcome but must know beforehand, who is currently being treated in a hospital or other healthcare facility. Therefore, please notify us when a member of your family is currently or shortly will be hospitalized or in another healthcare facility so that we can be a familiar presence to them during their stay in a local hospital, rehabilitation center or nursing home. 23 SRL Prayer Shawl Ministry Our aim is to knit or crochet God s love and care into shawls for those in need. We generally meet on the 2nd and the 4th Wednesday of the month, in the Dougherty Center from 1:00-2:30pm. What do you know about Our Lady of Guadalupe! We at Women of Bethany are finishing up with our study of St. Joan of Arc and, as of March 12, moving on... Exactly 100 years after St. Joan was burned at the stake, and half a world away, a beautiful young pregnant woman appeared on a hilltop to a native Mexican named Juan Diego. She asked him, quite simply, for a chapel to be built in her honor. What followed was the conversion of a nation and a continent.
