3 February 26,2017 Isaiah 49: Corinthians 4:1-5 Matthew 6:24-34 The life of our parish is guided by the parish mission which is to educate, form and transform persons into disciples of Christ and to foster their active participation in the life, work and mission of the Church. All parishes are called to be schools of discipleship assisting the People of God with the ongoing life long conversion required to be followers of Jesus Christ. It is in our parishes, families and in the world that we are living witnesses to Christ s love and the faith we profess. Discipleship is our invitation to continue Christ s saving mission here and now and through generous stewardship change the world! Are you new to the area or new to St. Rose of Lima? You will be contacted to set-up a new member meeting. The meetings are held in the rectory on Sunday mornings at either 10am or 12pm. Stewardship Reflection for Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 25/26 Saint Paul reminds us as baptized Christians, as those who have shared the Eucharist with one another, that we are servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. We are not to define ourselves by our age, ethnicity, gender, social status, work, vocation or avocation. Our primary self-understanding should be that of servants and stewards of the Lord and all that has been entrusted to us. Can we accept this self-understanding? Do we find it encouraging? A Lenten Stewardship Idea: CRS Rice Bowl If you are searching for a way to bring Lenten stewardship practices home to your family in a very visual way, consider Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl. Rice Bowl incorporates the three pillars of Lent, prayer, fasting and almsgiving, while raising our consciousness of the poor and vulnerable in our world community. All registered parishioners were mailed a rice bowl in the parish Lenten mailing. If you have not received your mailing yet you should receive it early this week. Additional rice bowls will be distributed through Religious Ed, Academy, in the church and at Waywalkers. Included in your rice bowl is a calendar that provides you with a wealth of resources for spending Lent in solidarity with the poor: daily reflections, stories of hope from the people CRS serves throughout the world, weekly prayers, and meatless recipes. The money you, or your family, save from sacrifices and fasting during Lent is placed in the Rice Bowl. For Christian stewards, using the Rice Bowl in a conscientious and prayerful way to bring spiritual depth to Lent for you and especially your children, who can learn a lot from putting their faith into action. Catholic Relief Services is the official relief agency of the United States Catholic Bishops. Last year, Rice Bowl raised $7 million for the poor. Of this amount, 75% was distributed in the 40 countries which CRS serves worldwide. The other 25% was given to food pantries and soup kitchens in the United States. Rice Bowl helps raise awareness of poverty and of the vital Christian mission of service to the poor.

4 SRL PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY Our aim is to knit or crochet God s love and care into shawls for those in need. We meet on the 2nd and the 4th Wednesday of the month, in the Dougherty Center from 1:00-2:30pm. Upcoming dates are March 8th and 22nd. Come join us, to share the joy of creating and sharing. HOSPITAL VISITATION: We are dedicated to visiting the sick because Jesus has shown us that our presence to them is not simply comforting but healing. Hospitals in recent years have been forced to carefully monitor visits by non-family members. Clergy, therefore, are welcome but must know beforehand, who is currently being treated in a hospital or other healthcare facility. Therefore, please notify us when a member of your family is currently or shortly will be hospitalized or in another healthcare facility so that we can be a familiar presence to them during their stay in a local hospital, rehab center or nursing home. 13 Ladies Auxiliary Serve at Bridges Recently a group representing our Ladies' Auxiliary volunteered for a Bridges Run to feed the homeless in New York City. Members served soup and hot chocolate and handed out clean socks, sandwiches, and lunch bags to our sisters and brothers in need. The sandwiches and bags were made and prepared by members and fellow parishioners earlier that day. Thank you to everyone who participated!

18 SRL Academy 8th Grade Pinning St Rose of Lima 8th grade students celebrate their pinning ceremony The entire student body of Saint Rose of Lima Academy came together to celebrate Mass and to witness the eighth grade students receive their school pins. This pinning ceremony is a long standing tradition at Saint Rose. The pin is not only a reminder of the students years at Saint Rose but it also marks the half-way point of the students final year at the Academy. At the end of Mass, Father John blessed the pins. Mrs. Underwood read the names of each student aloud, and they in turn walked to the altar to receive their pins. As the eighth grade students left the church they presented their parents with a rose. The rose was a thank you to the parents for all they have done for them. Following the ceremony, a brunch was held in Ryan Hall for the eighth grade students and their parents. The parents then had the honor of pinning their son or daughter. Everyone had a wonderful time and enjoyed the delicious food provided by the Home School Association.

26 Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! The students in Mrs. Carangelo's class had lots of fun creating individual snowmen using a "glyph code". A Glyph guides students to follow specific instructions such as; Give your snowman a black hat if you are a boy or a red hat if you are a girl. Give your snowman round eyes if you own pets, or square eyes if you don t own a pet. Your snowman should have an orange nose if you are 8 years old, but a yellow nose if you are 7 years old. The number of buttons on your snowman should equal the number of children in your family. Also the color of the snowman's scarf follows a color code for the month of the year each child was born in. By following the code, each child created a very unique snowman for a wintery hallway bulletin board display. Combining math and art can be so much fun!
