1 NEWSLETTER PUBLISHING THE MINISTRY OF MOUNT PISGAH CHURCH OCTOBER 2017 November 2017
2 The Strongest Month Yet! November 2017 of the ministries that happened beat our expectations, and the results can only be attributed to God and the people who invited God to work through them. To name just a few of those ministries: The Blessing of the Animals was a huge blessing to so many in the community. We easily tripled the number of animals blessed in our 2nd year. The Pumpkin Patch finished extremely strong in its 27th year. This could never have been possible without Chris, Aimee and David Sharp. They led the way, and so many of you stepped up and provided the hours needed to raise over $17,000 for the Whobodies; including a tithe to the Church. Thank you for serving and inviting people to be part of Mount Pisgah. The Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat had an estimated 600 in attendance. The volunteer base was over 120 providing trunks, parking cars, preparing food, doing evangelism and invitational ministry, leading children s games, giving hayrides... It was all GOOD. The pink car was here, and over $100 was raised for cancer research. Twenty people filled out prayer cards, and everyone was all smiles. In October, the attendance in worship and offerings toward God s Kingdom were strong. Two memorial celebrations were held in addition to our Reformation Concert and two-night event with Dr. Tekyl. This all gave the Church momentum along with all the other ministries. November has arrived, and we want to remember Rev. Donald and Diane Thomas as they celebrate the wedding of their 2nd daughter, Khristi, this weekend in Morehead. Please be in prayer this month for Rev. Kim Miller, as she will be expecting her fourth child the first 2 October was the strongest month of ministry at Mount Pisgah since I became the pastor. I say this because several week of December. Pam Inman is slowly getting back to her routine, and we are pulling for her! Please take time to pray and faithfully return your pledge cards to the church any Sunday in November by mail or by dropping them off at the church office or in the offering plate on Sundays. By turning in a pledge card, you help to give Mount Pisgah financial stability as we head into Our Sunday activities in November are very exciting: November 5th - During the 11:00am worship service, the Church will be remembering 9 Church members who have gone on to the Church Triumphant since last November. We will also be recognizing 38 members who have been among us for 50+ years as well as serving Holy Communion. November 12th - The Church will recognize veterans at all three worship services. Following the 11:00am worship, the Church will host a luncheon for veterans and their families. Around 100 will be attending. The last day to RSVP for the Veteran s Luncheon is Monday, November 6th at noon. At 4:30pm in the Fellowship Hall, a packing party for Operation Christmas Child (OCC) will be held. November 19th - Everyone is to bring their OCC shoe boxes to church this Sunday morning or evening. The goal is 800 shoe boxes from Mount Pisgah. That evening, at 5:00pm, the Church will host a Thanksgiving Meal. All attendees are asked to bring a side and/or dessert. The UMM are providing the turkey and hams. Following the meal, the Church will gather at 6:30pm to have our first annual Thanksgiving Worship Service. The Rev. 8 Children s Discipleship New Children s Council guides Children s Ministry Starting in September, a new group of Spirit-led servants gathered for the first time to convene the new Children s Council at Mount Pisgah Church. This group meets monthly and makes decisions for the Children s Ministry and pours their heart into creating spaces for children to grow and become disciples who know they are loved and valued. Members of this group include: Stacy Thomson, Glenda Smith, Margaret Lewis, Vaughan Long, Molly King, Lauren Rigby, Amy Miller, Terry Edwards, Sheila Main Watch for great new things to come from this dedicated group! Fall Festival Thank You! To the Community of Mount Pisgah, A heartfelt thank you for your support of the Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat event that took place on October 29th. You amazed us with your willingness to provide super creative trunks, give loads of candy, and volunteer until we ran out of gifts to give and our feet were aching! A special thanks to Dayna Paslay and the Whobody Youth Group who manned our Fall Festival games and to the United Methodist Men who filled in as Bouncy House Police and game attendants where there were empty slots. Another thank you goes to the folks who served hot dogs & decorated and to those who did invitational ministry throughout the event. Cheers to Rev. Donald Thomas who coordinated the logistics of it all and to those who helped him in this ministry. So many of you (120+!) deserve our individual praise recognition, but, please know you are appreciated and prayed for with gratitude. Rev. Kim Miller 8 Thanks for Supporting this new event! A special thank you for those who came out to experience the Kids Prayer Workshop in the days leading up to the Prayer Encounter with Dr. Terry Teykl. We think it is important that kids ministry is infused with every learning and worship opportunity that our adults experience so that we are making disciples of even our youngest community members. Children and families experienced prayer stations and new ways to pray at this open house event. New Faces in Childcare Starting at the beginning of November, you can meet two new friendly faces in the childcare rooms at Mount Pisgah. In an effort to create consistency and a sense of security for our youngest community members and families, we have invited Dinaashi Jehu-Appiah and Hgnong Ya to work as Childcare Assistants each Sunday morning and Wednesday evening as well as some special events. They will be undergoing training and observation as they get started, so stop by and say hello if you get a chance.

10 Young Adult Ministry What s Happening? The Young Adult Ministry has continued to be a blessing to work with. The Sunday School class, which meets right after The Mount woship service is going well. We discuss the sermon and use discussion questions to see how the sermon relates to our daily lives. This Sunday School is a great time for fellowship and community with one another. We started small groups last month, and we have two different groups that meet. One group is led by Brandon and Amy Leebrick and is currently discussing the importance of prayer. They meet once per month. The other group is led by Anna Bloch and Gracie Weaver and is reading the Purpose Driven Life. This group meets 2 times per month. These two groups are helping build a great community here within the Young Adult Ministries. The Young Adults and the youth will be attending the Passion Conference from January 1st-3rd, 2018 in Atlanta Georgia. Over 50,000 students and adults attend this conference. We purchased 20 tickets with the early bird rate, and we have received funding to help cover most of the costs. We currently only have a few tickets left for the conference. If you are interested in going, please let Cody (cody@mtpisgahgso.org) or Dayna (dayna@mtpisgahgso.org) know. Cody Johnsen 10
