2 Faith Community Presbyterian Church PAGE 2 VOLUME 40 ISSUE 02 FROM DAN S DESK There's a fitness center in Brighton that I belong to that has recently been expanded. Actually, 'expanded' doesn't quite to justice to what happened. The place is at least twice the size of what it was before. It was a gradual thing which meant that we could all watch as the project unfolded. Walls disappeared, wiring dangled from the ceiling, HVAC adjustments were going on, and workers were a constant presence. New exercise equipment appeared, along with monitor screens for our viewing pleasure and encouragement. It was all kind of messy, but we knew what the end result would be. Faith Community is in the midst of something similar. In our case, however, it's not so much in the areas of building or equipment as it is in leadership. New Deacons and Elders have been ordained and installed (Welcome aboard!) and others have fulfilled their terms of service (Thank you!). Our Self Study Team has completed its work and passed it on to Presbytery. After review and hopefully approval, we can move on to elect a Pastor Nominating Committee. Once the gym was completed it seemed worth all the inconvenience and adjustment. I can't help but think the same will be said about the process we're experiencing now. 3 VOLUME 40 ISSUE 02 Faith Community Presbyterian Church PAGE 3 YOUTH SERVE AT E1E A big THANK YOU to Daphne and Jim Paulk. These two (along with some parents) took our Faith Community youth downtown to prepare and serve spaghetti and meatballs, garlic toast, green beans, chocolate chip cookie and a banana to 77 guests. They also worked back at the sign in area and distributed the remaining donated hygiene kits and various winter clothing for immediate use. COLORING AND CONVERSATION Women s Group Tuesday, February 13 Do you enjoy coloring? Coloring books for grownups are a popular way to relax and de-stress. If you haven t tried it, now s the time! No special talent required. Pictures, markers and colored pencils will be provided. If you have your own markers, etc., bring them along. We will provide lunch. Please sign up to let us know you re coming. Friends and spouses are always welcome. Meeting time is 12:30 2 pm. See you there. Hosted by Val Kushman & Ginny Mowbray DONATIONS FOR SPIRIT OF HOPE Collection boxes are in the narthex for winter clothing and warm accessories, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, long underwear, blankets etc. Especially needed are winter BOOTS, mostly men s, but also women s and children s. A WEEK IN WINTER Women s Group Tuesday, March 13 The Women s Group meeting in March will be on March 13, We will be celebrating St. Patrick s Day with lunch and discussing A Week in Winter by the Irish author Maeve Binchy. This is a story about the people in a small Irish town on the west coast of Ireland. See Linda Shoener or Angela Ryan if you have any questions or need a copy of the book. Donations will be taken to the Spirit of Hope soup kitchen the first Wednesday of the month through the winter. Please bring gently used and new items to help the Detroit homeless survive the cold days and nights ahead. Thank you!

Jim Paulk cut out all the little wooden manger scene kits to the Advent Workshop. NEW PILLOWCASE PARTY Tuesday, February 27 The Pillowcase Partyers is a group of people who gather every month or so to make pillowcases for kids in foster care. Not everyone sews! Some cut fabric and some iron. For 2018, the group decided to meet on fourth Tuesday of the month at 1 pm. (Subject to change). If you have a sewing machine, bring it; otherwise just come, there is something for all talents. And we re always looking for kid-friendly cotton fabric. The 4th Sunday Brunch started in January 2011 and is still going strong FLOWER CHART Many Sundays still remain open for providing flowers for worship. The Flower Chart is posted on the bulletin board by the kitchen. Please check the open dates, and add your name to one or more Sundays. The cost of the flowers is $40. ADULT BIBLE STUDY Lenten study begins February 18, We will be studying A Trail of Tears by Robert Bankhead. This series of seven lessons traces the events of Jesus final journey into Jerusalem, and towards crucifixion by looking at the texts from the four Gospels. Classes are held Sunday at 9:00 am in the Adult Classroom. See Linda Shoener or Laura/Adam Bednarek if you have questions or would like a copy of the book. Ordering details are handled by the church office PER CAPITA The Per Capita is the amount of money the church forwards annually on behalf of each member to support the administrative functioning of our denomination on the Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly levels. This year the Per Capita is $ Your giving $26.33 on behalf of each church member in your home will help greatly in this important responsibility. Checks can be made payable to the church, with Per Capita on the memo line. Thank you.

6 PAGE 6 Faith Community Presbyterian Church VOLUME 40 ISSUE 02 WHODUNIT? at the Barn Theater February 11 The Fellowship Committee invites all to join them Sunday, February 11, for the matinee performance of And Then There Were None at the Barn Theater in Farmington. In this classic Agatha Christie whodunit, ten strangers are summoned to a remote British island. Each guest has a secret and each one is both a suspect and a potential victim. As the weather turns and the group is cut off from the mainland, the guests are systematically murdered, one at a time, in accordance with the lines of a sinister nursery rhyme. Tickets for the 2 pm play are $18. Following the show, the group will continue the fun with dinner at a nearby restaurant. Dinner is optional but always a good time. Poster to sign up is in the narthex. Or, call Val Kushman to reserve a ticket. Tickets are limited, so hurry! CREAM CHEESE BACON CHICKEN TACOS 8 oz. cream cheese, softened 3 oz. real bacon bits 2 cups cooked rotisserie chicken, shredded 1 bunch green onions, chopped 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon pepper 2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese 10 Old El Paso Nacho flavored Stand & Stuff Taco Shells 1. Preheat oven to Place cream cheese in large saucepan over mediumlow heat. 3. Add shredded chicken, bacon bits & chopped onions to the sauce pan and stir until cream cheese is completely melted. 4. Place taco shells in a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. 5. Remove the saucepan from heat and add the shredded Mexican cheese mixture. Stir until fully combined. 6. Spoon the mixture into the taco shells dividing equally. 7. Place baking dish in oven and cook until taco shells start to brown minutes. 8. Remove from oven and serve.
