1 Emmanuel Christian School Newsletter 25th August 2015 Principal: Mr Scott Winkler Phone: A Word from the Principal I am the Lord your God... Exodus 20:2a When Scottish theologian John Baillie taught at Edinburgh University, he made it a practice to open his course on the doctrine of God with these words: "We must remember, in discussing God, that we cannot talk about Him without His hearing every word we say. We may be able to talk about others behind their backs, but God is everywhere, yes, even in this classroom. Therefore, in all our discussions we must be aware of His infinite presence, and talk about Him, as it were, before His face." 1 More and more we live in a world who doesn't believe God exists. This, for the here and now, is quite a comforting thought because we would not need to be worried about what we say or how we act. We can continue to live lives that centre on us. The thought of an all-knowing God watching our every move and judging every thought is one that people choose to ignore. This illustration of an ostrich with its head in the sand 2 is a perfect image of people who choose to ignore God. They cannot see God is at work all around them. They certainly don t have to acknowledge God as Lord. Acknowledging God as Lord magnifies God and minimises us. It say God is in charge, not me. It means we serve God as infinitely superior and more important than us. He is also vastly more caring and protective. Praise God for Christian education at Emmanuel. We can freely acknowledge Jesus as Lord and bring our students before our Lord God. The picture here from The Life Coach website doesn t have to be that of one of our children because we can open God s word with them and show them the truth Sincerely, Scott Winkler Principal For the diary: Fri 28th Aug Grade 9 Excursion - Woodbridge Wed 2nd Sept Immunisation Wed 9th-10 Sept Whole Primary School Performance Rehearsal Thurs 18th Sept Footy Colours Day ( Primary only) Fri 25th Sept Last Day of Term 3 Mon 12th Oct First Day of Term 4 NO School Banking School Banking will not be available for this - Friday 28th August as Mr Faulkner is away. 2 2015 Primary Production News Hi Parents, Your children have now all been given parts in our production and are busy rehearsing lines, singing songs and dancing. You should have also received a costume notice with your child s costume requirements. Please send all clothes and accessories in a named bag to school by the end of next week. Most of your children are Wemmicks and require braces of some sort. We have found braces for just over $3 at Shiploads which would be perfect. Tickets are now available at the School Office for $5 each. Blessings, Mrs AJ Crane FUTSAL The Hobart Youth Futsal competition will run from 11 September till 19th December (Friday nights) and is open to children aged 6 to 15. We are looking to organise teams from Emmanuel. The cost is $7 per week per child and each team will need an adult co -ordinator. If your children are interested please register your interest at the school office. Forms have been sent home For more information please call Marietta and Jonathon on or sangows@gmail.com. A reminder that the Primary School has introduced Crunch & Sip Break during your child s daily PE time. Please ensure that they bring a piece of fruit or vegetable to have during this time as well as a bottle of water. 'My kids won't eat vegetables!'...'how can I get my toddler to eat new foods?' Do the above phrases sound familiar to you? Do you have kids that are fussy, or unwilling to try new foods? Try the following tips to help keep you sane and your kids healthy. Surround them with healthy food messages Books: read books that convey healthy food messages. Some classics are: Jasper Mcflea will Not Eat his Tea by Lee Fox; Vegetable Glue by Susan Chandler; Green Eggs and Ham by Dr Seuss and; The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Activities: provide healthy art and craft activities e.g. look for healthy food colour-in pages or books; get children to cut out fruit and veg pictures from the supermarket brochures. They can then paste these in a food scrapbook. Songs: some classics are Hot Potato by The Wiggles, Watermelon by Justine Clarke. Pictures: hang up bright healthy food pictures in the kitchen. Fruit bowl: always have a readily supplied fruit bowl in easy view and within reach on the kitchen table or bench. Put the cookie jar out of sight! Have only healthy choices available in the fridge and pantry. Strategically place healthiest choices within eye view. Uniform News 20% SALE All new items are 20% off for the next 2 weeks. 31st August till 11th September. Opening hours during the sale are: Tuesday am and Friday am. If you can not make it to the shop then please fill out an order form in the office
