September 5 th is the first night. The fellowship committee will be providing the kick off meal at 5:30, and classes begin at 6:00. The following classes are set to begin: Divorce Care Divorce Care is a divorce recovery support group where you can find help and healing for the hurt of separation and divorce. This nationwide program features video seminars and unpressured support. Nancy Dodson is bringing this important program to our community. Aging Joyously This class is not about diet or exercise, crossword puzzles or memory tips. It s about aging from a spiritual perspective. This study pulls from the wisdom of many including a Benedictine nun, megachurch pastor, Buddhist monk, and Billy Graham to help you embrace your gift of years. The Study of Mark Jim Brattin continues his (wildly popular) Bible Study. This autumn they are discussing the book of Mark. As always, you are invited to drop in for an evening or the entire session. Being Human This is a lively and upbeat class that connects the life of recovery to spiritual growth. Anyone human is invited. Choir Even if your voice is somewhat less professional that Josh Groban or Adele, you are invited to participate. Other Classes Being Considered These classes need a TINY bit of leadership to begin. If you are interested, please call or text (870) Look for updates about the final SGU line up. Walking/Talking/Strolling Group FCC Book Club Inspirational Video Series of the Life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer Youth As always, there will be great programs for youth of all ages. Please Plan To Attend and Invite Your Friends

4 Page 4 From The Heart Who are we as a church? This is a question I think about a lot from a leadership point of view. The job of leadership is to keep pointing everyone in the right direction. And so I try to find ways to express the fundamental direction of this church. Lately I ve been thinking that we re basically about two things when you really boil it down: grace and growth. We want to accept everyone where they are (grace) but we don t want to leave anyone where they are (growth). And it s important that both of these go together. Grace without growth is apathetic. Growth without grace is exhausting. So we work hard to keep a good balance enough grace so that we remember we re not earning this, and enough growth to make sure we are always fresh and have a growing edge. I can t say enough how much I love and appreciate this church and the way we work together with each other. It really is a group effort, and I get to see first-hand all the ways people make their unique contribution. So let s keep heading forward with grace and growth like two great workhorses that are pulling us onward both as individuals and as a church. Onward and Upward! Your Pastor, Dr. D Adventure Report! Happy Fall! Okay so maybe it isn t fall quite yet but I m excited. SGU and afterschool program kick off is just around the corner. If you re interested in joining with us on Wednesday Nights for SGU or Wednesday afternoons for Noah s Arts or even Tuesdays for the Crossing Grounds, this is your moment! There are so many different roles available from driving the church vans, to tutoring after school, to chaperoning events, or just hanging out with us. No commitment is too small. I m looking forward to seeing where the Lord leads us this school year and all He has in store for us. I pray you ll consider taking the journey with us. Adventure awaits! In Him, Kahla We have a section in our prayer concerns for our college students on page 3. This list is in need of updating. If you know of anyone that needs to be added or removed please call the office. Please take a moment and remember to pray for them.

5 Page 5 Women of the Church Service groups are still in the process of being reorganized for Every woman of the church is eligible and invited to serve on one of six groups. These service groups prepare and serve funeral dinners and occasionally serve for wedding receptions. Disciple Women does not want anyone to be left out. Please contact the church office at if you are unable to serve with a service group. The Harrison Christian newsletter is folded and prepared for mailing by church volunteers. People who donate a few hours 9:30am - 11:30am on a Wednesday morning once a month or as needed. If this sounds like something you would enjoy doing then call the church office and let Karon put you on the rotating schedule for the folding team. The more the merrier!
