And the end of last year we were really busy with all of the Holiday activities and merriment. Sadly, though, before Christmas the Parish and the Council lost a very good man, Brother Stephen Corkins -whose sudden passing has left all of us, especially his wife Ginny and their family in shock, sadness, and mourning. I must say without a doubt- that Stephen had a beautiful send off with the December 27th Funeral Mass at St. Joseph, which was well attended and was followed by a social in the Hall. Afterwards, Stephen was taken to Bunker Cemetery for interment. I d like to thank everyone who had helped get this all together for Stephen and Ginny. Many thanks go out to Brother Ken for being with Ginny and assisting her with the painful details of getting the Funeral arranged. Let s keep Ginny and family in our thoughts and prayers. Upcoming in January: 1st New Years Day - The Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God which is a Holy day of Obligation 3rd Business meeting 7:30pm in the Hall 26th First degree exemplification St. Francis room 26th & 27th tickets for the Mardi Gras Dinner will be on sale after each Mass in the Plaza 26th Set up for the Pancake Breakfast and religious goods sale in the Hall and the St. Francis room 27th pancake breakfast and religious goods sale in the Hall and the St. Francis room 31st Planning meeting in the St. Francis Room I d also like to also congratulate Brother Mike Rinaldi our new District 9 District Deputy - Congratulations!!! Feel free to come by and join the fun and fellowship! ************************************************************************************************************************************** A LITTLE HUMOR. "Somebody has said there are only two kinds of people in the world. There are those who wake up in the morning and say, "Good morning, Lord," and there are those who wake up in the morning and say, "Good Lord, it's morning." There was a very gracious lady who was mailing an old family Bible to her brother in another part of the country. "Is there anything breakable in here?" asked the postal clerk. Only the Ten commandments, the lady said sweetly.

This month has been flying! As you are aware (or should have received) the invoices for this year s dues were mailed out Please respond as soon as you are able. You will also notice that we have included a request for support of the Seminarians. You can add 3.00, 5.00, or more to your check for council dues and we will add your name to the Seminarian Raffle. Each additional $1.00 received will add 1 raffle ticket in your name. I am pleased to inform everyone that over 50% of those who have already sent in their checks have made an additional donation to the Seminarian Raffle. Thank you to those who have supported this effort! IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED AN INVOICE FOR YOUR DUES PLEASE call or ME at Rick.singer48@yahoo.com. I have received 4 invoices back with bad addresses. I will be following up on those address between now and January 15, 2019 when we send out the second notices for dues. Membership cards: for those who have mailed their checks to my address your new membership cards are going into the mail on 1/3/2019. Audit Time: Along with everything else that is included in the December responsibilities comes the Audit in January. By establishing QuickBooks on the Financial Secretary s Laptop and with some minor accounting tweaking I anticipate this audit will go smoothly. This is not to say that I have completed everything perfectly (I never claimed to be perfect), but we should have an easy audit. Lastly, I want to add my thoughts on the loss of our Brother Steve Corkins. Steve was a tremendous asset to our Council. I always enjoyed his smiling face and quick quip at the Pancake Breakfasts or during the Fundraising Dinners. He will truly be missed by all. I hope to see you all at the next Council Meeting on Thursday January 3rd, As always, it is pleasure to serve you, the Council and the Church God Bless you all. Yours in Christ, SK Rick Senninger, Financial Secretary Rick.singer48@yahoo.com

6 KNIGHTLY NOTES PAGE 6 Council and Assembly 2820 mourn the loss of a great Brother Sir Knight. Stephen Corkins was called home to the Lord on Dec 20. Stephen exemplified the spirit of the Knights and Christian values in the way he lived his life. He was always there to help whether it was pancake breakfast, selling tickets, co chairing the golf tournament and/or the blood drive, or helping at the bar at the dinner dances, he was always there doing what needed to be done. Our prayers are with the repose of his soul and that of his beautiful family. ************************************************************************************ Thought for the Month Everybody can make a difference, and everyone should try. If you have cooking experience, or just have an interest in learning more about cooking, this is an opportunity for you to serve us and your Parish. You will work alongside our current cook and learn our systems with the intent that you would assist with food planning, food purchasing, food prep, and health code compliance. The long term plan would be that you would alternate with the others and take over an event and make it your own. Last update was that Brother Danny Iliscupidez has stepped up and become a regular great helper in the prep/cooking part of the kitchen, which we totally appreciate. Chuck is having some physical issues and it is hard for him to do all of this right now. So we still need someone to learn/assist/backup PGK Chuck in the buying of the supplies and getting them to the kitchen. Most are purchases at either Restaurant Depot or Smart and Final, or wherever has the best prices at the time of what we need for the Breakfast/Dinner in question. We also are in desperate need of Knights to help each dinner in Transporting items to and from the Shed. As you can see, the scope and breadth of our activities has gotten way too much for one individual to manage. Please prayerfully consider serving the Knights in this capacity. 9 KNIGHTLY NOTES PAGE 9 Knights of Columbus St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Council #10442 Ladies Auxiliary Greetings and Happy New Year Ladies! Our December events were packed into just two weeks for the end of the 2018 year! They included our meeting on December 6 th, Religious Goods sale combined with Breakfast with St. Nick in the St. Joseph Center, and then our Annual Christmas party with the Council and Assembly. Nothing much just a few little gatherings Our meeting on the 6 th began with special recognition of our longest guest member, Sandy D Agostino. She has been such an active part of our membership for many years and highly valued for her knowledge and the spirituality she has graciously shared with us. Immediately after this part of the agenda Sandy D Agostino, Anita Palladino-Durazo and Ann Young are honored for their support of the Auxiliary and the Council. The impromptu ceremony required borrowing some poinsettias from a floral arrangement and candles from an Advent wreath in the room. Afterwards the ladies rose and celebrated honoring these members with applause and much love!! After Committee reports from Ann, Barbara, Donna and Nenita -- We discussed our annual Christmas Charity donations which included a large donation to our parish of $5,000, Catholic Charities $300, St. Therese Center $300, Youth Ministry Stuebenville scholarship of $300, and another $300 for a check-out CD library for our elementary Faith Formation Children. Our outstanding Religious Goods Sales and Bundt Cake sale have given us a wonderful Charity total this year! Great work Ladies!!! 10 KNIGHTLY NOTES PAGE 10 LADIES AUXILIARY, continued Next up was Religious Goods and Breakfast with St. Nick. Jolyn had the set up for Breakfast all ready to go and organized a quick, beautiful layout for pictures and gifts. The table decorations included darling trees she made from Styrofoam forms and Hersey Kisses for each table and more. Ann and Becki set up the Religious Goods area in a new layout to mimic our Inspirational Gift Shoppe layout in the St Francis and Clare rooms. The sale also included many new items to our assortment. It was beautiful and proved to really encourage more enjoyable shopping again. Vice President Becki and I presented Fr. Marc with the $5,000 check for the parish at the Breakfast with St. Nick. He was very appreciative and thanked our group for all our hard work. After packing up the Decorations for the Breakfast he came to visit with the ladies and collected the tree and ornaments he purchased at our Religious Goods sale. We all shared our holiday spirit with him and let him know how much our group enjoys each other s company. The following Friday we had our Annual Christmas party at the Siena Golf Bistro. It was a lovely affair and a nice celebration for our members. Donna Urso-Vuolo did a wonderful job arranging, decorating and hosting the event. Good company, good food such a lovely evening! Many blessings to you all for Happy, Healthy New Year, Paula Donofrio, President Pd10442@cox.net

14 KNIGHTLY NOTES PAGE 14 Text of Pope Francis' Christmas message Updated 10:16 AM ET, Tue December 25, 2018 (CNN)Here's the official English translation of the text of Pope Francis' Christmas message released by the Vatican. (The speech was delivered in Italian, and it was obtained by CNN's Nicola Ruotolo in Rome.) Dear Brothers and Sisters, Happy Christmas! To you, the faithful of Rome, to you, the pilgrims, and to all who are linked to us from every part of the world, I renew the joyous proclamation of Bethlehem: "Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace among those whom he favors" (Luke 2:14). Like the shepherds who first went with haste to the stable, let us halt in wonder before the sign that God has given us: "A baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger" (Luke 2:12). In silence, let us fall to our knees and worship. What does that Child, born for us of the Virgin Mary, have to tell us? What is the universal message of Christmas? It is that God is a good Father and we are all brothers and sisters? This truth is the basis of the Christian vision of humanity. Without the fraternity that Jesus Christ has bestowed on us, our efforts for a more just world fall short, and even our best plans and projects risk being soulless and empty. For this reason, my wish for a happy Christmas is a wish for fraternity. Fraternity among individuals of every nation and culture. Fraternity among people with different ideas, yet capable of respecting and listening to one another. Fraternity among persons of different religions. Jesus came to reveal the face of God to all those who seek him. The face of God has been revealed in a human face. It did not appear in an angel, but in one man, born in a specific time and place. By his incarnation, the Son of God tells us that salvation comes through love, acceptance, respect for this poor humanity of ours, which we all share in a great variety of races, languages, and cultures. Yet all of us are brothers and sisters in humanity! Our differences, then, are not a detriment or a danger; they are a source of richness. As when an artist is about to make a mosaic, it is better to have tiles of many colors available, rather than just a few! The experience of families teaches us this: As brothers and sisters, we are all different from each other. We do not always agree, but there is an unbreakable bond uniting us, and the love of our parents helps us to love one another. The same is true for the larger human family, but here, God is our "parent," the foundation and strength of our fraternity. May this Christmas help us to rediscover the bonds of fraternity linking us together as individuals and joining all peoples. May it enable Israelis and Palestinians to resume dialogue and undertake a journey of peace that can put an end to a conflict that for over 70 years has rent the land chosen by the Lord to show his face of love. May the child Jesus allow the beloved and beleaguered country of Syria once again to find fraternity after these long years of war. May the international community work decisively for a political solution that can put aside divisions and partisan interests, so that the Syrian people, especially all those who were forced to leave their own lands and seek refuge elsewhere, can return to live in peace in their own country. My thoughts turn to Yemen, in the hope that the truce brokered by the international community may finally bring relief to all those children and people exhausted by war and famine. I think too of Africa, where millions of persons are refugees or displaced and in need of humanitarian assistance and food security. May the Holy Child, the King of Peace, silence the clash of arms and allow a new dawn of fraternity to rise over the entire continent, blessing the efforts of all those who work to promote paths of reconciliation in political and social life.

15 KNIGHTLY NOTES PAGE 15 POPE CHRISTMAS MESSAGE continued May Christmas consolidate the bonds of fraternity uniting the Korean Peninsula and help the path of rapprochement recently undertaken to continue and to reach agreed solutions capable of ensuring the development and well-being of all. May this blessed season allow Venezuela once more to recover social harmony and enable all the members of society to work fraternally for the country's development and to aid the most vulnerable sectors of the population. May the newborn Lord bring relief to the beloved land of Ukraine, yearning to regain a lasting peace that is slow to come. Only with a peace respectful of the rights of every nation can the country recover from the sufferings it has endured and restore dignified living conditions for its citizens. I am close to the Christian communities of the region, and I pray that they may develop relationships of fraternity and friendship. Before the child Jesus, may the inhabitants of beloved Nicaragua see themselves once more as brothers and sisters, so that divisions and discord will not prevail, but all may work to promote reconciliation and to build together the future of the country. I want to mention, too, all those peoples that experience ideological, cultural and economic forms of colonization and see their freedom and identity compromised, as well as those suffering from hunger and the lack of educational and health care services. A particular thought goes to our brothers and sisters who celebrate the birth of the Lord in difficult, if not hostile situations, especially where the Christian community is a minority, often vulnerable or not taken into account. May the Lord grant that they, and all minorities, may live in peace and see their rights recognized, especially the right to religious freedom. May the little child whom we contemplate today in the manger, in the cold of the night, watch over all the children of the world, and every frail, vulnerable and discarded person. May all of us receive peace and consolation from the birth of the Savior and, in the knowledge that we are loved by the one heavenly Father, realize anew that we are brothers and sisters and come to live as such!
