LARGE PRINT SERVICE S are available on the narrow table in the narthex. AS WE GATHER While the secular calendar won t switch to 2019 for another month, the Church Year begins anew today. Advent is a season of waiting and preparation. One Advent tradition is to mark the four Sundays in Advent with four words that encompass what Jesus brings as He comes into the world to be our Immanuel God with us. These four words are hope, peace, joy, and love. Today we focus on hope. There is a lot of suffering in the world, but hope exists in Christ s incarnation, death, resurrection, and return. FOR THOSE PARTAKING OF THE LORD'S SUPPER: The Apostle Paul writes in I Cor. 11:27, 29, "Anyone who eats the bread or drinks the Lord's cup in an unworthy way is guilty of sinning against the Lord's body and blood. Anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the Lord's body brings judgment on himself as he eats and drinks." In view of the serious nature of the Lord's Supper, Paul commands us to examine ourselves to see if we are partaking the supper for the purposes for which Christ instituted with our hearts properly prepared. We heartily invite Confirmed members of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to receive of the Lord's Supper. Anyone else, we ask you to see the Pastor first for instruction so that you might receive the supper to your benefit rather than to your harm as the Apostle Paul warns. MILITARY BIBLE STICKS Yes, we are again seeking contributions for this ministry to the men and women in the Armed Forces. We will be receiving donations during the Advent season. $25.00 will supply a Bible Stick for a member of the Armed Forces along with a postcard which is redeemable for a Dramatized New Testament or a Kids New Testament for family members. Look for the display in the Narthex. Make your contribution using the forms found at the display or send a check, payable to St. Paul Lutheran Church, and mark Bible Sticks. In past years we have averaged between $3000 -$4000. Let s see what we can do in 2018! Matching funds available, by end of year BUT to get the maximum bang for our buck on that have your donations and because of the holidays falling when they do please have in by December 19 th and anything donated after we will send on as well. CHILDREN S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM PRACTICE for all grades (Preschool-7 th grade) 7 th graders on Sunday, December 2 from 9:15-10:15AM it would be great if you the 7 th grade would help with costumes, ushering the day of the program, etc. please come on Dec. 2 nd to help as well. PRACTICE ALSO on Wednesday December 5 from 4:30-5:30PM for grades 3 rd - 7 th and you can eat Walking Tacos in the fellowship hall as the Jr High Youth will be serving the Advent Meal.
