Very few birthdays are remembered on our Church calendar only two, in fact. Jesus, of course, for that is what Christmas is about, and John s, who prepared His way. Every other saint is commemorated on the death day. John, the name given by the angel, means God is gracious. John fulfilled the meaning of this name by heralding the arrival of the long-promised Messiah. It was not merely a father s pride that gave a song to Zechariah, John s father. This miracle birth was the signal for a greater miracle the fulfillment of a promise that went back to Adam and Eve in Eden. Though we call him John the Baptist, perhaps the term John the Forerunner best describes him. John was born into a priestly family; his birth was marked by the angel for his special role. In the visit of the Virgin Mary to Elizabeth, John kicked in the womb, leaping for joy. As Jesus prepared to begin His public ministry, John began to preach repentance, to baptize, and to fulfill Isaiah s prophecy. JUST A REMINDER the lower level parking lot will be closed as we re-pave the lower level. We would ask that you do not park on the lower level til after July 15 th. Thank you. EVENING W/PASTOR NEIL Starting Thursday, June 7th at 7PM. Every Thursday night (during the summer), Pastor Neil will be leading a Bible class. This is open to anyone and everyone that wishes to attend. IT S A CELEBRATION! On June 24 th at 10:15AM we will have a Brunch to celebrate and acknowledge Rev. Donald Winterrowd on the Anniversary of his Ordination. On June 15, will mark 55 years in ministry. If you have not signed up - you can still come even if you didn t sign up! DISTRICT CONVENTION - The opening worship service of the Iowa District West Convention is the best way to start a convention. We begin with what is most important that being Christ. We open our convention at Christ s altar, pulpit and font. Only then can we move to the business of the Church. Praise God for all assisting with worship including our preacher, the Rev. Herbert Mueller, 1st VP of the LCMS. Please join us for the opening worship service at Immanual Lutheran Church ( th Street) in Spirit Lake on, June 24 beginning at 7pm. All are welcome to attend! COMMUNITY BASKET DONATIONS June items are: personal care items: soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, combs/brushes, feminine items, diapers, shampoo & conditioner. Peanut butter and jelly, are welcomed as well. May are peanut butter and jelly. All items are appreciated as well, as they can always use donations, The Community Basket is open on Thursdays, from 1:00-4:00PM SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM meals will be served Monday-Friday at OABCIG Elementary in Ida Grove starting June 4 and going through Friday, July 27. Breakfast will be served from 8:30-9:00AM, and lunch from 11:30AM-12:30PM. Any child age 1-18 is eligible for free meal during these times. Adults may pay a small fee of breakfast $2 and lunch is $3.75. We also welcome adult and middle school/high school student volunteers, with meal count assisting younger children, supervising the dining area and cleaning up, they then are eligible for a free meal on that day. 3 BIBLE STUDIES SUNDAY ADULT BIBLE CLASS Outspoken Heroes of the Faith 9:15 AM s. HIGH SCHOOL BIBLE CLASS (Every at 9:15am) On, January 7th at 9:15am, THEOLOGY AT THE HUT led by Pastor Neil. Bible Study will meet weekly on Tuesdays at 6pm at Pizza Hut. We still welcome you to come at any time to join us! WEDNESDAY EARLY MORNING BIBLE STUDY - 6:30AM at Zimmy s, WEDNESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY - 9:30 AM: 1 & 2 KINGS at 9:30 AM in the lower level Conference Room. This is open to anyone and everyone that wishes to attend. LUTHERAN FAMILY SERVICE Offers counseling here at St. Paul. Lynnette Aschinger, has over 22 years experience & expertise to those she serves and her Christian perspective offers a safe place to process those most difficult questions & to incorporate faith into the healing process. The counseling is available for anyone & LFS accepts most insurances and sliding scale is available. Areas of specialty include but not limited to: Children, Depression, Abuse/Trauma histories, Anxiety, Grief & Loss, Family & Couples. You are encouraged to contact Lutheran Family Service at to set up an appointment with Lynette. NEW MEMBER CLASS currently going on and you can attend if you would like to just brush up the Catechism, etc. The title of the course is Exploring Luther's Small Catechism and covers the basics teachings of the Christian faith. Some doctrinal topics to be covered are: the Trinity, forgiveness, man, creation, Judgment Day, angels, the sacraments, the church, our walk with God. This class will be offered on Wednesday evenings in the lower level Conference Room at 7:00 PM, as a class available for members and prospective members alike. It will last about 12 weeks. You can still join in or if you are needing to transfer your membership to St. Paul, or have a conversation with one of our Pastors, let Pastor Salcido or Pastor Neil know.
