Today s privacy laws do not permit hospitals to contact churches when a patient needs a pastoral visit. We are made aware of it only when the individual or their friends and family contact us. We are also not always aware of parishioners that are homebound and would desire a pastoral visit. 3 St Francis Family Groups will be having their September meeting on Sunday, September 9 th after 8:30 Mass. There will be a potluck and quick meeting. We welcome all members. We will be discussing the Brisket Dinner and having a quick meeting. Please mark your calendars for Sunday, September 30 th for St Francis Family, Fun and Fellowship. We will be having a Smoked Brisket Dinner with all the fixings after 10:30 Mass (Please note Mass time change ). We will also be having a Football Board, Cake Walk, Country Store, Face Painting, Tattoos (temporary), and craft table. We will be needing decorated cakes for the cake walk so start your planning! More information and details will be coming the next few weeks. If you would like to help with planning, we will be having our next Family Group meeting Sunday, September 9 th after 8:30 Mass in Gathering Space. A big THANK YOU to all who supported the Baby Caps and Booties fundraiser part of the Swift County Chapter of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) Fair Booth this year. This is a new venture for the chapter and your support is genuinely appreciated. Additional caps and booties will be available at upcoming events in the area. The next event will be at the annual MCCL Fall Tour to be held at St. Francis Church in Benson on Monday, September 10 at 7 pm. All proceeds from the fundraiser are used locally to support pro-life activities in the surrounding area. It all starts with baby steps. Choose Life! Pro-Life Presentation Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) will offer a brief pro-life presentation on Monday, September 10 at 7 pm at St. Francis Church in Benson. You will learn about how to help pregnant women in need, Minnesota abortion statistics, efforts to overturn our law against assisted suicide, and more. Discover how you can make a difference in protecting innocent human life. Enjoy fellowship at this free one-hour gathering! For more information, visit the Events-Fall Tour section at Mexican Night Saturday September 15th 2018 Join us for a celebration of Mexico's Independence following the 7 PM Spanish Mass in Murdock. All Are Welcome. Come, enjoy Mexican food and culture! Bring a dish to share if you would like but is not necessary. PACK A BOX OF JOY for needy children. This might be their only Christmas gift, while some have never received a gift. Last year St. Isidore the Farmer AFC was very generous and this project was so successful, sending 122 boxes. You are invited to participate in the Box of Joy Christmas project to share the joy of Christmas with needy children in Haiti and Central America. Plan ahead to fill your box(es) with school supplies, small toys, bar soap, hygiene items (no liquids), etc. A complete list will be published in September. Boxes will be available by October 1 and will need to be submitted by October 28. This is a CrossCatholic Outreach project sponsored by Sacred Heart Catholic United Financial Council #362. Participants will receive weekly or text reminders to pray and fast, along with little-known facts about Roe v. Wade to share with others. Sign up at In conjunction with the Schoenstatt Movement s Jubilee year (October 2017-September 2018) commemorating the 50 th anniversary of the death of their founder, Servant of God Father Joseph Kentenich, Bishop John M. LeVoir has granted a partial indulgence for all Catholics who visit the Schoenstatt Jubilee Family Shrine in Sleepy Eye, MN. The shrine is located at County Road 27, Sleepy Eye. In addition to the shrine visit, one must have sacramentally confessed one s sins, have received the Holy Eucharist, and have prayed for the intentions of Pope Francis. If one or more of these conditions are not able to be fulfilled on the day of this visit, it may be fulfilled within several days before or after the visit to the shrine. The last Kerkhoven Farmers' Market of the season is August 28 from 2:30-6 pm at the Pillsbury Park shelter next to the pool. Eric Rudningen, Swift County Commissioner, will be leading a public discussion at 5 pm concerning the study and future of the Swift County Jail. Come for information and an input discussion. The Bethel Baptist ladies will have the coffee on by 2:30 and keep the pot on for the 5 pm discussion. See you at the market. Appleton/Milan Elementary is excited about our award from Minnesota Reading Corps for the school year. We can hire tutors to work in our building to provide extra reading practice for students next year. Tutors will work with students in Kindergarten through third grade. If you are interested in being part of a great team and providing an important service to children, become a Minnesota Reading Corps tutor. Most hours are completed during the school day.
