Easy answer: because God as always works through us and our generosity is paid forward tenfold plus through our minister Karen and our congregation, as our generosity shines the Christian light throughout our community and through our lives. ( ) Midland Police Chief and Mayor Slated To Discuss Downtown Safety Challenges and Midland Renew Midland Police Chief Michael Osborne and Mayor Gord McKay will lead a joint community discussion on Wednesday, July 25 at 6pm in the sanctuary of St. Paul s United Church, 308 King Street. This is being organized by the Downtown Midland BIA and all concerned businesses and residents are invited to attend. Reflections on Our First Year Together: On Sunday, August 5 Karen is inviting anyone who would like to join her to grab a glass of lemonade after church and gather at one of the tables downstairs to just informally reflect together on our first year together. What were the surprises this past year? Highs? Lows? Just check in and see how things are going. Hope you can join us.

5 Bakeless Bake Sale: Please make your cheque payable to St. Paul s United Church. **We would like to wind down the Bakeless Bake Sale and ask if you could please get your donations in by the end of July, Envelopes are available on the back window of the church. Thank You! The UCW Fall Rummage/Garage Sale will be held on Friday Oct 26 th. There will be a few differences in our sale this fall and most will be announced later, however we would like to include a plant table for perennials and cuttings you may have started from your house plants. Perhaps you would consider starting some cuttings now so they could be well established by the date of the sale. Thanks! Congratulations to Bev & Clint Truax on the occasion of their 55 th Wedding Anniversary July 20 th. They met at St. Paul s and were married here! Staff Vacation: Judy will be on holiday from July 26 th thru August 7 th. Thank you to Gail Wilcox for taking care of the office during Judy s holiday. MINUTE FOR MISSION July 22 Food for Life More and more, the rights of small-scale farmers and farm dwellers are being violated and undermined in South Africa. Your Mission and Service gift supports an organization that works for justice and equal rights in rural South Africa. People should be able to produce or get healthy food and help determine agricultural policies. Yet that is not the case in South Africa. The export-driven model of agriculture there encourages using agro-chemicals, genetically modified plants, and fuels that negatively affect health and the environment. Farm dwellers face evictions or dispossession, violence, human rights abuses, and rural displacement. They are among the poorest and most vulnerable sectors of society and face myriad challenges. Mission and Service supports the Surplus People Project (SPP), which works with the rural poor to fight poverty and improve livelihoods. A key to this goal is access to and control of land, water, and seed, as well as access to local markets. SPP also works with farmers to promote ecological agriculture to minimize farming s effect on the environment and to maximize the use of available and renewable resources. Your gift to Mission and Service supports planning, research, and lobbying; raises awareness through education; and helps South African men and women in rural areas to improve their quality of life.
