The concert features Broadway tunes from Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Chicago and more, plus a piano duet. 5 Camp Simpresca: St. Paul s has funds to contribute to sending children from our church to camp. Contact the church office for more information Would you like to help sponsor a child to camp, we help children and youth in our church and in the community. If you wish to donate to this program and become A Friend of Camp Simpresca you can simply put the money in an envelope with your envelope # or name on it and write Camp Simpresca on it and we will see that it goes toward sponsoring a child in the community to experience summer camp. Listen Up! June 4, 5, & 6 Get ready for the Grand Finale of the Listen Up! Midland project at St. Paul s! After a year of writing poetry, composing melodies and creating art, the students of Huron Park Public School and the Children's Community Choir will be joining forces on June 6th at 7:00 pm for the world premiere performance of "The Seasons of Midland" by composer Andrew Staniland. This incredible program was brought to our community by John French of Brookside Music in collaboration with the Juno award winning Gryphon Trio, a poetry reading by local poet Roger Bell and, of course, the premiere of this new work written by our local children. Admission is "pay what you can" with a suggested donation of $10. to cover the months of July and August. Volunteer one time, or more if you are able. All material will be provided. News from the Official Board, June 2012 Mandatory Accessibility Training on May 22, 2012 St. Paul's Board, staff, key volunteers, and representatives of community user groups must be trained to meet accessible customer service requirements of legislation which came into effect in January Approximately 50 people, including several Scouts, took the excellent training provided by Independent Living Services of Simcoe County from 5:30-6:45 PM, and will receive certificates of participation. The Communications Committee prepared a light supper and the Scouts assisted by setting up, serving and cleaning up. May 22, 2012 Meeting of the Official Board The Official Board held its second meeting of 2012 on May 22, 2012 at 7:15 PM with 24 members present. Decision Docket: The Board accepted with sincere regret the resignation of Fred Earl as Chair of the Stewardship Committee and Treasurer of St. Paul's, expressing great appreciation for his 10 years of exemplary service. All present signed a card which was hand made by Cathy Metzgar. The card with our best wishes will be personally delivered by Karen. The Nominations Committee has so far identified three new members to join Edith Bell on the Stewardship Committee -- Al James, Shawn Leis and Marg Heeley and is seeking two more volunteers to bring the committee to the minimum number required. Interested persons should contact Sheila Thompson of the Nominations Committee. The Stewardship Committee, once oriented, will choose its own Chair/Treasurer. To assist us during the transition period, Shawn Leis, a member of the Trustees, (and in his work life an accountant and Vice President of Finance at Techform Products Ltd.), has agreed to join the Stewardship Committee, to review immediately the United Church's Financial Handbook For Congregations (2010), and become familiar with our accounting systems and processes in consultation with Judy and Fred and thus prepare to assist Judy, the Board and the new Stewardship Committee as it gets oriented to its role, establishes its leadership and carries out required functions. The Board has established an Accessibility Committee an on-going sub-committee of the Communications Committee -- to fulfil the duties outlined in section 3.4 of the Accessibility Policy passed at the last Board meeting. It will include five - nine board, staff and congregational representatives. The Board approved Terms of Reference for a Capital Campaign Projects Committee which will recommend project priorities and funding strategies to the Board. It appointed Tom Barber, its Chair, to the Board for the duration of the committee's work. Other members of the committee are Edith Bell, Cam Bonner, Byron Metzgar (Secretary), Louise Reynolds, Sheila Thompson, Colin Whiteside (Vice Chair), Bruce Wilcox; Louise Leck and Karen Ptolemy-Stam (ex officio). Two issues with respect to Camp Simpresca were addressed. The Faith Formation/Christian Education Committee will prepare a policy on Camp Simpresca fund assistance; and, after applying the policy on a trial basis this summer, report back to the Board in September The Nominations Committee will seek an interested volunteer to act as St. Paul's representative to Simpresca's Board. Interested congregation members or adherents are invited to contact Sheila Thompson.

7 The Faith Formation/Christian Education Committee will develop criteria and guidelines to clarify how some Trust Funds could be allocated annually to cover costs related to congregation members' participation in learning opportunities such as training sessions, conferences and workshops provided or endorsed by the United Church of Canada and report to the Board in September. Business arising From the February meeting: The Chair reported that she has asked Terry MacPherson, Vice Chair of the Board, to coordinate the work of committee chairs in reviewing progress on the 2012 Five-Year Plan/Budget and reviewing/revising the 2013 Plan/Budget based on input from individual committees, in collaboration with the Stewardship Committee. This work should begin no later than September in order to be ready for Board review/approval in January. As directed by the Board, the chair has named the following members to a Vision/Mission Committee whose job is to recommend to the Board how to initiate discussions of the Vision and Mission of St. Paul's: Milne Dick, Rachel Leck, George Leck, Shawn Leis, Susan McNeil, Cathy Metzgar, Bea Nayduck, Virginia Nihill, Victoria Warwick; Karen Ptolemy-Stam and Louise Leck (ex officio). The committee held its first meeting on May 30, 2012 and will meet again on July 7 in an effort to have a recommendation for the Board at its September 2012 meeting. The chair identified members of the Capital Campaign Project Committee (see Decision Docket above). The committee met on April 21, 2012 when it approved draft terms of reference to present to the Board and selected its officers. The next meeting will be at the call of the Committee Chair. Other Business: Reports from the Minister and various Committees and groups were acknowledged. Zena Pendlebury encouraged people to attend an upcoming information meeting on a possible casino in the Midland area. Copies of the United Church position on gambling will be mailed or given to Board members for their reference, with copies available through the church office for any interested member of the congregation. The date of the next regular meeting of the Official Board was set for Tuesday, September 25 at 7:00 PM in the Parlour. If urgent items arise which require decisions over the summer, the Board can be convened at the call of the Chair. Special Official Board Meeting on May 28, 2012 The purpose of this Board meeting was to discuss and vote on an historic remit from the United Church of Canada, which asks all congregations to vote on including in the Basis of Union (which functions as our Constitution) the 1940 Statement of Faith, the 1968 New Creed as amended in 1980 and 1994, and the 2006 Song of Faith. While members of the congregation were invited to review the documentation and attend the meeting, only Official Board members could vote. The meeting convened in the Parlour at 7:00 PM with 15 Board members present, so quorum was achieved. Karen provided background information about the remit process and spoke briefly about each of the documents about which we were to vote. The Board, after discussion of each, voted to include all three documents in the Basis of Union. The meeting concluded with members expressing appreciation for what they had learned from reading the documentation and from the thoughtful discussion prior to each vote.
