Please come to the communion rail to receive the bread and wine, whether you are an Episcopalian or not, or to receive a blessing. Please join in the singing! When coming to the rail for communion, please kneel or stand to the left of the person in line directly in front of you until the rail is full. You may receive both the wafer and wine, the wafer only, or may ask for a blessing. Please let the priest know if you need gluten free. Debbie, the priest, will be available after the service to answer any questions you might have. Please let her know your thoughts about today s service. The Collect for Purity The Book of Common Prayer, page 355 The Song of Praise Wonder, Love and Praise, #880 God s Paschal Lamb is sacrificed for us Sine Nomine The Collect of the Day Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord's resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The Lessons The people sit. First Lesson Acts 10:34-43 Then Peter began to speak to them: "I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ--he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jeru

4 salem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." Lector People The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm 118:1-2, 15-16, Chant: Charles Villiers Stanford 4

5 The Second Lesson Colossians 3:1-4 If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory. Lector The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God. Sequence Hymn The Hymnal 1982, #188 Love s redeeming work is done Savannah The Gospel John 20:1-18 Gospeller The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. People Glory to you, Lord Christ. Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him." Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. Then the disciples returned to their homes. But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him." When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?" Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away." Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and 5

6 said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbouni!" (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, "Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, `I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord"; and she told them that he had said these things to her. The Sermon Gospeller People The Gospel of the Lord. 10 Easter is a Season Jesus didn t just rise on Easter Day and then disappear! The risen Christ appeared to followers for 40 days. Whether walking with them to Emmaus, or appearing to them in the upper room (not once, but twice to satisfy Thomas questions), or on the beach at breakfast, Jesus still had much to accomplish after Easter Day. Why not come and hear these stories as we consider how Jesus still appears to us in our walks, in our gatherings and when we are at our daily tasks. Easter is a season: come and realize the new life flourishing in you! * The Rector will be on vacation beginning this afternoon through Saturday, April 22. For emergencies, please contact Joanne Moar, Senior Warden. If you need a priest, she will put you in touch with The Rev. Manny Faria, Rector, St. Peter s, Beverly. May Breakfast Mark your calendars for Saturday, 13 May from 8:30 to 11:30 am for our annual May Breakfast. There will be signups available soon for donations of food and monies. We will also be selling flower bouquets as Mothers Day is the following day. Keep an eye out for ways you can make this May Breakfast a big success. Start thinking about who you d like to invite to attend this beautiful event. Summer Music Camp Grace Church, as a partner in the North Shore Mission Hub, will offer a free weeklong music camp for rising 4th through 8th graders from Monday, June 26 through Friday June 30 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. At the end of the week, the singers will offer a concert Friday evening (time to be announced). A snack and an activity will also be offered during this camp. We are pleased to have Mr. Guillermo Ortiz, music director at our partnership school, the Nathaniel Bowditch School, joining us as the director of the camp. Debbie will be assisting him too. Please let Debbie know soon if you have a scholar who might be interested. Enrollment is limited. 10

11 The Garden of Life The Vestry is planting a Garden of Life to sow the seeds for a sustainable future for Grace Episcopal Church. Contributions to the Garden of Life will first address our past due assessments of nearly $90,000, and then we'll plant the seeds for new programs in the future. Much of the preparation of the soil has already taken place: The Diocese has joined us as framers of the garden in this way: for every dollar over an initial $10,000 raised each year, they will match dollar for dollar and will subtract another $3,000 from our debt. Your Vestry provided the fertilizer by already giving the first $5,000. Two other generous sowers have offered to contribute $5,000 apiece once we've reached the $10,000 mark. Once you ve made a decision about how you will provide your generous support, write your commitment on the seed packet and place it into the basket. Then, take a pair of gloves from the flower pot as a symbol of our promise to work together, hand in glove, for the future of Grace Church. 11
