8 - 8 - Redeemer s Mission Statement: Redeemer Lutheran Church exists for the sole purpose of preaching, teaching, promoting, sharing, and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ, so that through us God s Holy Spirit might work to make others His Disciples. Communion Statement: In Christ s name we welcome those who commune with us today. In the Lord s Supper we receive Christ s body and blood in, with, and under the bread and wine. (1 Corinthians 10:17, Because there is one bread, we who are many are one Body, for we all partake of the one bread. ) The blessings of the Lord s Supper are Forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. If you believe as we do, but are not a member of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, we ask that you speak to the Pastor before communing. Communion Schedule: For the month of April, 2018 ONLY, we will celebrate Holy Communion the first, third and fifth Sunday of the month (April 1st, 15th and 29th). Our normal schedule second and fourth Sundays will resume in May. Lutheran Hour Ministries: Lutheran Hour- WOAI (1200 AM station) on Sunday mornings at 6:00 a.m. The Alpha Course: The Alpha course is an evangelistic course which seeks to introduce the basics of the Christian faith through a series of talks and discussions. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is a basic tool to share Jesus with someone who has no idea of who God is, or Jesus or all the other stuff. It is also a refresher

10 for your life and everyone is welcome, so invite a friend to join you. It is described by its organizers as "an opportunity to explore the meaning of life". Alpha courses are being run in churches, homes, workplaces, prisons, universities and a wide variety of other locations. The course began in Britain and is being run around the world by various Christian denominations. We began this course at Redeemer Lutheran on January 6th. There is no cost for the materials. Stewardship Sentence: John 20:1 Now on the first day of the week All is made new by the Resurrection of Jesus! Even the day of worship has transitioned from the Old Testament s Saturday Sabbath to the Lord s Day of the New Testament. For the Lord has made all things new: He has begun a new week for a new creation in rising from the dead as the New Adam. We are also made new in Him a new heart, a new life, new desires, a new outlook toward God: all this comes from our Risen Lord s grace. Lectionary Summary: Job 19: Corinthians 5:6 8 or 1 Corinthians 15:51 57 Mark 16:1 8 - Christ s Resurrection Means That We Will One Day Be Raised - Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed (1 Cor. 5:7). By the shed blood of Christ, the Lamb of God, eternal death has passed over us. Now we pass with Christ through death into life everlasting. For Christ the crucified One is risen! The stone has been rolled away from the tomb, revealing that the tomb could not hold Him (Mark 16:1 8). Now our Redeemer lives eternally to save us from sin and Satan and the grave, and we can live in the sure hope of our own bodily resurrection with Christ. After my skin has

11 been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God (Job 19:26). Feasting on the living Christ, who is our meat and drink indeed, we boldly say: O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?... But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 15:54 55, 57). Luther Quote: Mark 16:1 8 - Christ died; death devoured the Son of God. But in doing so death swallowed a thorn and had to get rid of it. It was impossible for death to hold Him. For this Person is God; since both God and man in one indivisible Person entered into the belly of death and the devil, death ate a morsel that ripped his stomach open. LW 22:355
