Amen. The Lessons The people sit. The First Lesson Acts 9:36-43 Now in Joppa there was a disciple whose name was Tabitha, which in Greek is Dorcas. She was devoted to good works and acts of charity. At that time she became ill and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in a room upstairs. Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, who heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him with the request, "Please come to us without delay." So Peter got up and went with them; and when he arrived, they took him to the room upstairs. All the widows stood beside him, weeping and showing tunics and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was with them. Peter put all of them outside, and then he knelt down and prayed. He turned to the body and said, "Tabitha, get up." Then she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up. He gave her his hand and helped her up. Then calling the saints and widows, he showed her to be alive. This became known throughout Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. Meanwhile he stayed in Joppa for some time with a certain Simon, a tanner. Lector People The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

They cried out in a loud voice, saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!" And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, singing, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen." Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from?" I said to him, "Sir, you are the one that knows." Then he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great 4

5 ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them. They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat; for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." The Episcopal Church offers all the sacraments of the Catholic Tradition to anyone who is a baptized Christian and who desires such sacrament. Please feel free to come to the communion rail to receive the bread and wine, or to receive a blessing. All are welcome to the rail, as all are welcome to reverently receive the heavenly food of God. The priest will be available after the service to answer any questions you might have. If you wish to receive weekly envelopes for the offering, please speak with the Rector following the service and they will be available the next Sunday. There is also an information packet available at the entrance to the church. Please take one. Special Raffle: We wish to send you our weekly E-News. Visitors who sign the guest book with name, address, phone and will be entered into a special monthly drawing for a $25 gift certificate to a Salem business. The next drawing will take place on Sunday, April 28. We will, of course, be respectful of your privacy. April is Lifebridge Month Lifebridge is working to offer men and women the opportunities they need to end their homelessness. We partner with Lifebridge by providing and serving a meal once a month. It costs Grace Church approximately $170 per meal for the groceries. This cost is defrayed by our special offering. Envelopes are available at the doors of the church and in the Lobby during the entire month of April. Please be generous in your support of this ministry to end hunger in Salem. This month, we will meet at Lifebridge on Saturday, April 27 at 10:30 am to prepare and serve the meal for those in want in Salem. 8

The program for Saturday, April 27th, is as follows: 8:30 am - Coffee and light breakfast items available 9:00 am - Choice I: Knitter s group Choice II: Yard clean up at the church 10:30 am - Choice III: Preparing lunch at Lifebridge 11:30 am - Choice IV: Serving lunch at Lifebridge and cleanup You may choose any or all of the options. In future months, we will offer prayer and bible study around outreach and service, as well as retreat opportunities. In the Fall, we will begin a speakers series as well as consider some handyman work for families and individuals in need. If you have something you would like to do with others, please let Laurel or Debbie know. All are welcome to come whether you sign up or not (sometimes God nudges us at the last minute!). 9

10 Adult Study: Walking with Jesus We are beginning the season of Easter. One of the stories we know of Easter is the Road to Emmaus, the story of those walking home from Jerusalem who encounter the risen Christ, only to recognize him at supper when he breaks the bread. On four Wednesdays, beginning April 24th, we too will walk with Jesus as we explore his ministry, the Crucifixion, Resurrection and Ascension. Our three major resources for this exploration will be the Bible, the Book of Common Prayer, and your experience. We will meet in the Common Room from 6:30 to 7:30 pm on April 24 and May 1, 8 and 15. All are invited. Here is the program: April 24th, The Earthly Jesus: After studying a few stories of Jesus and his encounters with us, we will then consider the tradition s understanding of the incarnation, as we share our own personal stories of Jesus and his ministry. May 1st, The Crucified Jesus: We will begin by reading one of the Passion narratives, and then share how the crucifixion impacts our faith in and relationship with God. We will also consider the tradition s understanding of atonement and sin. May 8th, The Risen Christ: Just what does the resurrection mean to you? How are resurrection stories reported in Scripture? How does our Book of Common Prayer enable us to live into this powerful act? May 15th, The Ascended Christ: What is the majesty of our Lord? How does our understanding of heaven and earth change knowing that God came to us in love and then took our human nature into heaven? We will also consider how the followers dealt with this final good-bye and when they expected the return of Christ. No previous study or knowledge in necessary. We need your experience of Jesus Christ to grow closer to him. Please consider coming and asking your questions as we Find Ourselves in God. 10
