Each of us brings our own experience and traditions to this gathering. So here in this place, let us take time together to encounter the holy. Please remember to silence all devices In the Celtic tradition, creation is, in essence, an expression of God and therefore essentially good. 2 The Reading Matthew 20:1-16 Lector Listen now for the Word of God. Jesus said, "The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with the laborers for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard. When he went out about nine o'clock, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace; and he said to them, `You also go into the vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.' So they went. When he went out again about noon and about three o'clock, he did the same. And about five o'clock he went out and found others standing around; and he said to them, `Why are you standing here idle all day?' They said to him, `Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, `You also go into the vineyard.' When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his manager, `Call the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and then going to the first.' When those hired about five o'clock came, each of them received the usual daily wage. Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received the usual daily wage. And when they received it, they grumbled against the landowner, saying, `These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.' But he replied to one of them, `Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what belongs to you and go; I choose to give to this last the same as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?' Assured of your love, help us cast aside all fear, so that we may love our neighbors as ourselves. Amen. Leader Jesus says, Come to me you who are troubled and I will give you rest. So come, you who are broken in body or in spirit, you who are torn by relationships and doubt, you who feel deeply within yourselves the divisions of the world. Come, for Jesus invites us to bring our brokenness. From now until the end of the service, you are invited to come for light prayers and healing. 4 People Sanctus In the beginning, God made the world, made it and mothered it, shaped it and fathered it. that is green, blue, deep and growing,; all that is tender, firm, fragrant and curious; all that crawls, flies, swim, walks or is motionless; all that speaks, sings, cries, laughs or keeps silence; all that suffers, lacks, limps or longs for an end; the world belongs to God, The earth and all its people. With saints and ancestors, with the seas and earth and sky, with animals and birds, with our friends and those unknown to us, with all creation we join in the song of your unending glory: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might. In the same way, he took wine, gave thanks for it and gave it to them saying: This is my blood, poured out in love for you. Do this to remember me. So we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Hear us Christ, and breathe your Spirit upon this bread and wine. May they become for us your body, vibrant with your life, healing, renewing and making us whole. And as the bread and wine which we now eat and drink are changed into us, may we be changed again into you, bone of your bone, flesh of your flesh, loving and caring in the world. With him, and through him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, be to you, O God, all honor and glory forever. AMEN. The Lord s Prayer The Breaking of the Bread The Invitation This is the table, not of the Church, but of the Lord. It is made ready for those who love him and for those who want to love him more. So come, you who have much faith and you who have little, You who have been here often, and you who have not been here long, you who have tried to follow and you who have failed. Come, because it is the Lord who invites you. It is his will that those who want him should meet him here. Communion are invited to come and feast at God s table. You may receive the bread in your hand, and if you wish, drink from the cup.
