1 Apalachicola, Florida...July 15, 2018 Dear Trinity member & friends, Alleluia, Alleluia Please consider these musings from Brother Michael as we practice humility and gratitude in our daily lives. Blessings, Donna+ MONK MOMENT WITH BROTHER MICHAEL GALLAGHER The Times for Saying Alleluia (RB ch. 15) St. Benedict thought it so important that we sing Alleluia that he even legislated it in his rule for monks. Only Lent was excepted. It has become a lost art today when to give praise and thanks and be grateful and sing Alleluia. It seems that we focus our attention only on the negative just take a gander at the nightly news. And when we forget to give thanks and look only at problems, we become a fearful people. And when we become fearful, we close ranks and start to exclude people who are not like us. We are Benedictine so that we have community to remind us that we are an Alleluia people. Without giving thanks we lose our ground of humility and become a little less present to the others we meet on a daily basis. We recently sang in church: The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart A fountain ever springing. All things are mine since I am his How can I keep from singing? Robert Lowry, 1869, How Can I Keep from Singing? Let us start each day with our own Alleluias lest we forget how to be grateful to a world that desperately needs our presence.

2 Br Michael NEWS & UPDATES FROM YOUR VESTRY As we settle into this period of transition at Trinity, our Vestry is working hard to insure that everything is running smoothly. With Donna s guidance, we are implementing some muchneeded changes: In order to have a clearer picture of our financial status each month, we are moving Vestry meetings from the fourth to the second Monday of the month. This will coincide more closely with the most recent bank statement. We are also looking at streamlining the check writing procedures for all of our ministries to better track our income and expenses. Dick and Jane Pickering have offered a very generous financial gift to be used for improvements to Penny s Worth. The Vestry is working with the Penny s Worth board to determine how to use this gift in a way that will best reflect Jane s love and commitment to this vital ministry. Beginning in August, our chalice bearers will be processing with the choir and remain seated in the altar space during the service. With that in mind, we will be ordering new vestments for those Lay Eucharist Ministers. The cost of these robes and cinctures will be covered by the Herbert and Pearl Marshall fund which is designated to be used for religious purposes. Please let us know if you are interested in being certified to use the AED (defibrillator) that we purchased last year. We need six people for the training which will be provided by John Griggs of Scared Heart on the Gulf. Thanks to Gary Ulrich, our Jr. Warden, for overseeing all of the renovations to the rectory in preparation for Donna s arrival. Proceeds from another successful Tour of Homes were used to fund a new air conditioner, a new refrigerator, a fresh coat of interior paint and a number of other much-needed updates. For security purposes, we will soon be re-keying all of the locks to our four buildings. Shannon will be responsible for distributing and tracking new keys to those who need access to any of these spaces. The Vestry is discussing of the possibility of expanding the Sacristy to include the empty space behind the lectern and choir pews. This project is in the very early planning stage and no decisions have been made. I hope that this will help to keep everyone up to date on the workings of the vestry. Keep in mind that minutes of all Vestry meetings are available in the office for your review. -- Blessings, Rennie Report from the Trinity Finance Committee to the Family of Trinity -- July, 2018 Here tis the financial report on income for the first half of We have made it through the end of June and the good news is that we are running ahead in all aspects of offering. As of the end of June we have received $85,298 in total offering against an estimated first six month offering total of $81,996. This is wonderful news. Our expenses are tracking pretty much as expected and our projections are on line, barring some unforeseen happening. As yet, we have not taken a draw from the Young Fund. Again, this is good news. Someone asked, Where are the special funds such as the Young Fund and other memorial and restricted funds invested? W e invest our funds with the Episcopal Church Foundation and, to date, their track record has been very, very good. If you have questions please feel free to contact any of the Finance Committee members. 3 -- Ralph Wagoner, Finance Committee Chair BLUEGRASS Eucharist Coming Soon! On Sunday September 2, Trinity will celebrate with a Bluegrass Eucharist at 10:30. It will feature well known musicians from Trinity and the area featuring music that all can sing along to. Working with Donna to create a service that will weave traditional bluegrass tunes with familiar hymns, are Trinity musicians Randy Mims, Ina Margaret Meyer, and Brooks Jones. After the service, we'll enjoy a picnic lunch. Make your Labor Day weekend complete by joining in for this uplifting and meaningful experience. AROUND THE CHURCH Wagoner Family Celebrates Grandson Ryan's First Communion Ralph and Susie Wagoner attended their grandson Ryan's (seated, with Susie) First Communion in Sacramento, California in May. The proud family also includes sister Charlotte (seated, with Ralph), parents Joe and Rachel (standing, center and right) and his aunt, Amanda (standing left). TRINITY SUPPORTS 4-H CAMPERS Trinity Episcopal Outreach paid for two Franklin County 4-H club members, thanks to your generous donations. Our Episcopal Church W omen (ECW) donated one scholarship and many of you contributed to another one. Our own Shannon Segree participated as a camp leader and we will share photos and camping details in the next edition of the Bay View. OUR GREATER COMMUNITY

4 Trinity Aids in Eastpoint Fire Relief Tallahassee - June 26,2018. Gov. Rick Scott appointed Kristy Branch Banks to the As of today, Trinity has received over $5000 in cash donations and approximately $750 in personal care items for families affected by the devastating fire in Eastpoint recently. Bishop Russell is contributing $750 from his Discretionary Account in addition to money already collected. Franklin County Coalition is negotiating with suppliers to get portable classrooms from South Florida that are up to code. These will be retrofitted with kitchen plumbing, appliances and partitions for living spaces. And, the Franklin County School District is coordinating efforts to provide school supplies and two new outfits for students affected. (Shannon & Paul loading up donated items that were delivered to Eastpoint fire victim s.) Kristin Anderson and Donna Gerold enjoy a visit with Bonnie Stewart at her home during a recent Girls Night Out. Bonnie hosted last month's gathering where the women of Apalachicola get together with old friends, as well as friends they have not yet met. Martha Snowden Niblack is on Turtle Patrol every morning on St. George Island at 6:30, searching for turtle nests and marking them for protection. The turtle nesting season begins on May 1 each year and ends on October 1. Governor Appoints Kristy Banks to School Board

5 Franklin County School Board to fulfill the District 3 seat vacated by the resignation of Teresa Ann Martin. The term ends Nov. 13. Kristy, of Apalachicola, owns her own law practice in Eastpoint. She received her law degree from Florida State University. Congratulations, Kristy! Trinity on Parade Apalachicola's annual July 3rd Celebration featured a golf cart & bicycle parade, and Trinity was well-represented! Enjoying the festivities were Susan & Dewitt Galloway, Rev. Donna Gerold, Nita & Drew Morgan with their grandson Benjamin and Kay Carson & Shannon Segree. FARMER'S MARKET Saturday, July 28th 9am-1pm Located at the Mill Pond Pavilion at 479 Market St. in Apalachicola come out to get local seafood, produce, honey, homemade breads, pies, jewelry, art and other regional specialties offered every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 9 AM until 1 PM.
