Psalm 66:1 Facing Fear Trusting God Vacation Bible School 2013 Monday July 15th Thursday July 18 th 5:30-6:00pm - Dinner 6:00-8:00pm - VBS For all kids Preschool - entering 6th grade Sunday, July 14 th Special night for just Highwater Kiddos (may bring a friend). We will be getting pizza, decorating, and having some special activities to celebrate our own kids at Highwater! Get ready for the ride of your life as we learn about Facing Fear, Trusting God! 2 Timothy 1:7 says: For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love, and sound judgment. Each night we will be offering a fabulous kid inspired dinner at 5:30. We will blast off each night at 6:00 to another galaxy where we will learn about Jesus being the way, the truth, and the life for all of us. We will again be doing a slightly different VBS for kids 4 th -6 th grade this year that includes a strong focus on mission work. We will be collecting food and/or money for the Utica Food Pantry all week, culminating in this age group taking it all up and actually stocking the shelves for the Food Pantry. We have done this the past two years and it has made quite an impression on our kids. We will also choose a mission project that goes beyond our small area. We have supported Bead for Life (international organization) and Cookies for Cancer (national organization) in the past and are looking forward to becoming involved with another worthy organization this year. If you would like to help We need several group leaders and helpers to lead the children around from station to station and lend a hand in areas that may be needed. Please see the signup sheet or Debbie Smetts or Mr. Zach if you are interested in helping. We will be sending around a Wish List of needed food and craft items as VBS grows closer. 2 Getting on the Same Page For awhile, I attended a different church than the rest of my family. That s not surprising, really I worked in a number of churches through my seminary years and, for one year, was in Newark the first Sunday of the month, Dublin the second and fourth Sundays, and in Baltimore on the third Sunday. Our thinking was that it made more sense to have the rest of the Schiebers remain in Dublin with a more stable church situation. When we d get back together on Sunday afternoons, I d invariably ask the kids what they learned about in Sunday School. Jesus!, the answer would come. I d probe for more information What about Jesus? The answer, just as enthusiastic as the first response Just Jesus! I appreciated the enthusiasm, believe me, but was frustrated about how to follow through. Some of you might have the same sort of experience here at Highwater. If you send one child to the BUG room, another child to the TIGER room, and you stay in worship, chances have been good that you d learn about three separate scriptures. That s okay, but it doesn t make for an easy conversation over lunch. We are going to remedy that situation. Starting in June, we will all be on the same page. The BUGS and TIGERS will be in the same space for Summer Sunday School, and they will hear and learn the same scriptures we will in worship. It s my prayer that this will make it easy for you, as parents, to follow up with your children and reinforce their learning. When the fall comes, the children will settle back into their classes and we will continue to study the same scriptures BUGs at BUG-level, TIGERs at TIGER level, Confirmands at Confirmand-level, and adults during the sermon (which will hopefully be at adult level!). It s my hope that our families will take advantage of this opportunity to learn and share as a family I hope you ll be on the same page, without losing the Just Jesus! enthusiasm! Peace - Pastor Scott Meet Mr. Zach Our Youth Ministries Coordinator Hello, members of Highwater Church! I have to start by stating how honored I am to have been chosen to be your new Youth Ministries Coordinator! I can t express my excitement for working with your wonderful youth and fellow servants of God! Allow me to grant myself a small introduction. My name is Zach Cornelius (or as the youth call me, Mr. Zach), and I am a recent graduate of Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, California. My time out west was not only spent studying music, but developing and deepening my faith in God and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Making myself a better Christian will always be a work in progress, but I feel so blessed and eager to teach and learn with everyone at Highwater, especially the adolescents. Teaching our children the ways of God is vital in continuing God s work on Earth, and I am honored, humbled, and so thankful that God brought me to your church. I look forward to all the time we will spend together growing in God s love. Also, don t forget to mark your calendars! There will be a lock-in held Friday, June 7th! The Utica Food Pantry is currently experiencing a shortage of toilet paper and peanut butter and jelly.... Anything and everything from Highwater is always greatly appreciated!! Also, we continue to collect 'change for change'. A jar is located in the Narthex. Please consider dropping some pocket change into the jar. Missions will allocate the collection to coordinate with the church's current missions project. Thank you for your ongoing support as we help our neighbors in need. 7 Below... Quilt Donation Wish II Quilt Guild had a quilt block challenge contest this year. Everyone was given a fat quarter of the same fabric and had to put it together using it and some of there own fabric. and pattern. The result was a beautiful sampler quilt. It was auctioned off at the Spring Hog Roast and brought $1,100 and was bought by Cindy Campbell. Half of the proceeds went to S.A.S.S.( Screening and Survivor Support). It is for breast cancer survivors in Licking county. (Cont. below..) Above.Tea in the Eve at Elaine s Thank you Elaine and Paula!
