1 The Heartbeat of Highwater 29 For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. Matthew 25:29 No Risk, No Faith That s what I was told by Rob McCabe, our leader from Lifeline Christian Missions, as we were getting ready to pack meals on October 24. If you can t demonstrate Spirit-guided, risk-filled behavior in life, you are not acting from faith. It doesn t take a great act of faith to do what we ve always done, to give what we ve always given, or to look to someone else to do it. Scripture is full of characters, in every sense of the word, who have been chosen by God to do things that they never, ever thought they could do Sarai, Moses, Samuel, Elizabeth, Saul, among many, picked out by God, worked through by the Holy Spirit, asked to do big, big things in spite of their many flaws. What they have in common is the seeds of faith. They all lacked faith in themselves, so they all thought they would be unable to do what God was asking. What they came to realize was that their ultimate answer, yes or no, didn t reveal anything about themselves, but rather, what they felt about the possibilities of God. They ultimately accepted whatever tasks confronted them because they believed that God could work it out, through them. In a recent exercise, my confirmation class put together a list of one-word descriptors of God. One of the words they brainstormed was Limitless. Then we voted on all the words, and the kids and leaders found that word to be the single best word to describe God limitless, which to me means that God knows no boundaries, is not restrained by anything. Faith-filled actions are not calculated and they are not safe. At times we act forward in great faith, at other times, we fail to see opportunities put in front of us. Something tells me that in the limitless heart and mind of God, there is such faith that nothing is ever seen as risk. Peace, Pastor Scott Holiday Practice To Begin We are starting on our Holiday practices and a big sound for Christmas would make everything about this season of celebration brighter and richer. Practice for the Holiday Season will begin soon for Choir and the Chimes. Please be looking for details in the church bulletin!
