2 MESSAGE FROM PASTOR MIKE In the Ephesians we are given some powerful teaching concerning the potential of a believer and also a local church: With the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all... I pray that according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and heights and depth, to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen (Ephesians 1:18-23; 3:16-21) What are the things you see in these verses? Perhaps you can read these in a different translation and receive a new thought on the truth presented. As I read and pray over these verses, I see 3 key words that have everything to do what a church can become. All are necessary for a church to be successful. To be lacking in one of them causes a church to be deficient, and not reach the potential God has given. Certainly an individual Christian needs these also. These dynamic words are: hope, riches, and power. All of these come from Christ. It is His hope that helps us go on. It is the riches of Christ s glory that supplies what we need. Christ s power to us helps us when we feel low and powerless. Look closer at all of the ways power is described in these verses. How do these verses inspire us? What can we do to live in the hope, riches and power as Paul describes? What will we discover about life when we apply these words? Love In Christ, Pastor Mike 2

The scholarship shall be awarded by Stidham United Methodist Church Council.

4 Dale & Evelyn Corley Memorial Scholarship The family of Dale & Evelyn Corley have established an endowment fund in memory of their parents. The income from the fund shall be used for scholarships for members of the church pursing a degree at a post-secondary educational institution. The scholarship shall be awarded by Stidham United Methodist Church Council. Those interested in applying for a scholarship need to send a letter to the Pastor of Stidham United Methodist church explaining his or her qualifications. Applicants should include the following in their letter: Statement of academic performance. Statement of leadership ability through school, community, or Church activities or part-time work experience. Address briefly what receiving the scholarship would mean to her or him. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house The Twenty-third Psalm is always comforting and has been a go-to scripture all my life. I reflect that fear and loneliness are not dedicated to any specific time in a person s life. Have you ever felt alone and frightened while in a room full of people? I have, because there was not a familiar face in the crowd. As a young child, three years old, I was suddenly thrust into an unfamiliar situation. My sister was born needing hospital care. She needed our mother while in Riley Hospital and when she was allowed to come home, I spent time with other family members; but I longed for my mom. I did not enjoy going to school when I turned six. I would find excuses to stay home. You know my stomach hurt, my head ached. I was alone in an environment that was different. I got over this feeling when I made friends enjoying seeing them each day. We moved, and I changed schools in the middle of my sixth grade, to a much bigger school with lots more kids. I was terrified I would get lost in this big building. I learned my way around and made new friends. The Lord is my shepherd. High school was my next experience of adjusting to yet a bigger building. This time I took friends with me and I was not alone. After high school my life kept evolving. It was World War II and I went to work at Alco. They made aluminum parts for airplanes. I was alone again but time is a great teacher and I had My Shepherd with me. I made more friends, some that remain in my life. Later I met the man I married. I have had a happy life. I have spent time alone, but I have always had My Shepherd, a caring family, and a multitude of friends. Each month as I write to you for the Stidham Story I feel a friendship that knows no bounds. I love each of you. I keep the Twenty-third Psalm at my finger tips for times of crisis. I have a card on my fridge that says; Go to the Top! Number One is always in and listening! We can not avoid times of being lonely. I invite all of you to join the Lighthouse Prayer Group. Each of us have had lonely times in our lives. We have come to know the Shepherds better and he is dear to each of us. The month of June has days to celebrate. We love the fathers we know and admire the good examples all men have the opportunity to share with the community. The old saying little pitchers have big ears is so true. We never know when we are observed and followed. Good examples are a blessing. Congratulations to all the graduates. God s blessing on the brides and grooms that walk down the aisle this month.
