1 The Heartbeat of Highwater Then the man said, Lord, I believe, and he worshipped him. John 9: Annual Hog Roast Thank you everyone! What an exciting hog roast this was for Highwater! We served approximately 375 to 400 people. This is one of, if not the, largest crowd served since we have been involved. Quite a few of you commented that there was a much larger crowd present for the auction this time as well. We tried a few new things with this hog roast that seem to have been effective. First, basically because of other events we moved the roast up earlier in April. Did the earlier date make it easier for folks to attend? Because of the new date we ran some of the advertising two weeks instead of one to help ensure people caught it. Did more people see the ads? We announced we would be moving from two hog roasts to one a year. Did that make this event more impacting? We moved the auction up 1 hour. Did that timing make it easier for folks to stick around and/or make the whole flow easier for people? These are just a few things we can ponder as we think about our next hog roast. How do we feel about each of these and how will we do our next one? What other changes might we make? We now have time to really think about our next hog roast and do some great things. It is exciting to think about as we seek God s direction for what He might have us do next!! A special thanks again to our committee chairs. Without you, your time, your efforts, your ideas, this event would suffer tremendously. But a special thanks also to the new folks of our church. We had a number of new people who helped a lot in some critical areas where that help was needed. Thank you! Highwater Church Serving God since 1842 Hog Roast cont. And to our youth, you are a great group! You guys have a unique maturity for your ages. Our thanks to you too! And we just have to say.can you believe Sue Baughman and her creative idea of auctioning pies that she will make later since she wasn t able to do them in her normal fashion for this roast?!?! What a lady! Thank you, Sue. As always, we would like to thank everyone for all of your help and support. We appreciate each and every one of you so much. So often people will say to us, Oh, but I didn t do much. It is all the pieces that everyone does that makes this work. Every piece counts. Every piece is appreciated. We all have times when we can do more and times when we need to back off. That is why it takes all of us and why everyone s piece is so very important. Whatever your piece was.thank you. 5 Pastor Ed s Corner Dear friends in Christ, Isaiah 61: 1,3 The Lord has anointed me...to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning. Praise is powerful! When Scottish pastor, Robert Murray McCheyne was troubled with a coldness of heart toward the things of the lord, he would sing the praises of God until he felt revived in his spirit. Those in his household were often able to tell what hour he awoke because he began the day with a Psalm of praise. One day while he was trying to prepare his heart for preaching, he wrote in his journal: Is it the desire of my heart to be made holy? Lord, you know all things. I ve felt so much deadness. Toward evening I revived. Got a calm spirit through (singing psalms) and prayer. McCheyne had been uplifted by praising God. Perhaps you have felt as if you have been mired in what John Bunyan called the slough of despond. Lift a song of praise to the Lord. The psalm is said, I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever. (89:1). When we do that, the praise will flow, not only from our lips, but also from our hearts. The Lord delights to give thr oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. (Isa. 67:3) Yes, it is good to sing praises to our God - at all times. (Ps. 147:1) Cheryl and I will be looking for you next Sunday in worship. Happy Memorial Day - Monday, May 29th Play Ball!!!
