3 Introducing the Deacon George Seaton Humanitarian Award Brother Knights, This past week we paid our respects during the memorial service for Brother Knight Deacon George Seaton. The family of Deacon George made a special request that the reception after the service be special to the Knights. Although we had a few options, Brother Knight John Pawlak and his team took control and came up with a very nice luncheon for those who attended. Although most of us would remember Deacon George when he acted as our council Chaplin, we also remember his slow decline in health which eventually landed him in the assisted living home where he eventually passed. There is more to the story as when the needs of others are recognized, there are those who demonstrate compassion and are moved to act and assist with those in need. Recently the idea was brought to our attention that a recognition award should be created to honor individuals who demonstrate compassion towards the needs of others. During the time that Deacon George became ill one Brother Knight and his efforts were noticed time and time again as the one who selflessly responded to Deacon George s needs during his illness. The conclusion; The Deacon George Seaton Humanitarian Award is the award to be given annually to an individual who demonstrates a level of compassion by responding to the needs of others. The individual whom we ve witnessed most by his demonstration and efforts is Brother Knight Joe Dubuque. The decision to honor Joe as the first honoree was unanimous and without question. Please take a moment to congratulate Brother Joe Dubuque for his achievement and know that this accomplishment was achieved not because of this award, but because of his ambition and compassion. Who will be next year s honoree of the Deacon George Seaton Humanitarian award? Perhaps it will be You, by your efforts in making a difference in the life of another. Vivat Jesus Rick Hellenbrand

Thought for the Day Participating in the privileges of being a member of the Knights of Columbus, I shall share in those responsibilities, taking it upon myself to carry my fair share of the load, not grudgingly but joyfully. I am deeply grateful for the privileges I enjoy because of my membership in this great organization. They put an obligation upon me which I will not shirk. I will gladly carry my fair share of the burden. Because of the joy of doing them, they will no longer be burdens, but opportunities. Will I accept every opportunity gladly? Meditation for the Day Work and prayer are the two forces which are gradually making a better world. We must work for the betterment of ourselves and other people. Faith without works are dead. But all work with people should be based on prayer. If we say a little prayer before we speak or try to help, it will make us more effective. Prayer is the force behind the work. Prayer is based on the faith that God is working with us and through us. We can believe that nothing is impossible in human relationships, if we depend on the help of God. Prayer of the Day I pray that my life may be balanced between prayer and work. I pray that I may not work without prayer or pray without work. The above was adapted to fit my prayers for the members of Council 7131 from Twenty-Four Hours a Day, Hazelden Foundation (1954, 1975) May your walk with Jesus be rich and full of His unending love. 6 Two-fold Thank you Dear Brother Knights, Words are not enough to describe how thankful I am for your kindness and generous supporter of The City of Agape Charitable Foundation for the distribution of Catholic Bibles to the world. I was completely shocked and humbled by the response from all of you. What a wonderful gift. Please know that 100 % of your contribution will be used to carry out Gods Word. Br. Peter The other day my son was the recipient of a wonderful gift from the Knights to help him with his education. Again, I was blown away by your display of generosity towards me and my son. I can never repay your kindness, but I know who can, so please be assured of my prayers to almighty God for you. My son also wanted me to tell you that he thinks you are all pretty cool Br. Peter

7 Lighter Thoughts provided by Brother Fred Corelli 3-year-old Reese: 'Our Father, Who does art in heaven, Harold is His name. Amen.' One particular four-year-old prayed, 'And forgive us our trash baskets as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets.' A little boy was overheard praying: 'Lord, if you can't make me a better boy, don't worry about it. I'm having a real good time like I am.' After the christening of his baby brother in church, Jason sobbed all the way home in the back seat of the car. His father asked him three times what was wrong. Finally, the boy replied, 'That preacher said he wanted us brought up in a Christian home, and I wanted to stay with you guys.' A Sunday school teacher asked her children as they were on the way to church service, 'And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?' One bright little girl replied, 'Because old people are sleeping.' A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin 5, and Ryan 3. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson. 'If Jesus were sitting here He would say, 'Let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.' Kevin turned to his younger brother and said, 'Ryan, you be Jesus!' A wife invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to their sixyear-old daughter and said, 'Would you like to say the blessing?' 'I wouldn't know what to say,' the girl replied. 'Just say what you hear Mommy say,' the wife answered. The daughter bowed her head and said, 'Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?'

8 The launch of the World Apostolate of Fatima's U.S. Tour for Peace is underway and coming to our Parish! The historic tour, marking the 100th Anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima, Portugal, will feature the worldfamous International Pilgrim Virgin Statue, traveling worldwide for nearly 70 years. I hope you'll be able to experience the blessing of gathering with others devoted to Our Lady when the statue visits our parish, St. Francis on Feb. 22. The Pilgrim Virgin Statue has visited more than 100 countries, bringing Mary's powerful and timeless message of salvation and hope to millions. Bring back peace to all the nations of the world so that all, our own nation in particular, may be happy to call you their Queen and the Queen of Peace. Amen.
