2 Please join in reading those parts of the service printed in bold. When this symbol ( ) precedes an element of the service, please rise in body or spirit. The 50 day long season of Easter concludes with Pentecost. Charles Wesley, who led the Methodist movement along with his brother John, authored more than 6000 hymns, of which Christ the Lord is Risen Today is one of the most well known. Ushers will collect prayer requests during the first hymn. Blue prayer cards are located in pews. F P C, W, V S, M 18, :30 & 11:00 A.M. A Thought Upon Entering: Prayer is a touchstone of a person s religious beliefs. What he believes about prayer is an indication of what he believes about God. More particularly, what he does about prayer is an indication of what he believes about it. It might even be argued that there is, at least for the Christian, a logical connection between belief and prayer that where there is no prayer to God there cannot be any real belief in God. There might be some notional assent to the proposition that God exists, but this would not have the full force of what is intended by the phrase belief in God. Peter Baelz. Prayer and Providence T C G P G W A V R H P : I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry arr. John C. Ylvisaker Julia Buhagiar, soprano I : As the Deer Martin Nystrom C W (Romans 12:1-2) I appeal to you to present your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God. This is our spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, So that we may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. T I G P H 113: Christ the Lord is Risen Today! L

3 P C Gracious God, we are like seeds. You are the sun, the rain, the rich soil. If we protect ourselves from your life-initiating power, we cease to grow. We confess our fear of le ing go of what we are, afraid of all that we might become. We clutch the familiar. We cling to the old, bound by the past. Help us to believe where we have not seen and forgive, O God, our unbelief. Amen. S C A P C R : Hymn 108, v. 1 Christ is alive! Let Christians sing. The cross stands empty to the sky. Let streets and homes with praises ring. Love, drowned in death, shall never rise. RED WAGON MINISTRY Did you know that the Red Wagon Ministry, which distributes diapers at CCAP, gave out 7,000 diapers and 8,000 diaper wipes in the month of March? The average cost of diapers and wipes for families is more than $60 each month. The current goal of the Red Wagon Ministry is to provide families in need with at least one week s worth of diapers per month to help families who sometimes must choose between buying diapers and paying for food or rent. The gifts of diapers, wipes, and checks from First Presbyterian to the Red Wagon Ministry will help ease the burden for hundreds of local families.
