We do so through the celebration of the Eucharist, the administration of the sacraments and in loving and merciful service to all.

2 Our visiting seminarians last weekend send their thanks for the hospitality they received from the parish. Please keep them in your prayers as they continue their training for the priesthood. I hope and pray some in our parish responds to God s call to serve his people and live a larger life in the priesthood and religious life. Sometimes I think we know the need for young men and women to consider the priesthood and religious life, but we prefer that it be other peoples children, not our own. In these difficult times I hope we can encourage our young to see religious life and priesthood as desirable and important.representatives from our Finance Council met with families in our CETAP program last Sunday. CETAP was instituted by our Parish Pastoral Council to help families send their children to St. Helen School (and Notre Dame Elementary) without leaving our parish to receive the reduced parishioner tuition at St Helen. A great deal of work was done by the PPC to establish the CETAP program. Thanks to the dedicated fundraising and CETAP collection envelopes over the last ten years, we are in a position to consider other ways of making a Catholic education something more in the parish. We are planning ways to help make a Catholic education more attainable for more families in our parish.as you know November is traditionally the month when we remember our dead; those in heaven and those going through a process of purification in Purgatory. On All Saints Day we remembered all the saints, including those in our parish and families and on whom we rely for prayers of intercession. On All Souls Day we remembered those who stand in need of our prayers at this time. The Saints intercede for us and we intercede for the souls in Purgatory. That s what we call the Communion of Saints, of which we are members...next Tuesday a group from our parish will attend a diocesan meeting on Stewardship and Evangelization that will be held at SS. Cosmas & Damian Parish in Twinsburg. Bishop Perez calls all parishes to be represented. It is our hope that what we learn there will help in our parish life.remember in your prayers Okey Holcomb of our parish who has died. Okey was buried on Wednesday. May he and all the deceased of our parish and our families rest in peace! WHAT IS CONSECRATION TO JESUS THROUGH MARY? Mariam consecration is giving Mary full permission to complete her motherly task in us, in union with and by the power of the holy spirit, to form every human being into another ʺChristʺ. In short Maryʹs job is to help us grow in holiness. It is her mission to form us into saints. We will meet every Monday evening starting Monday, November 5 at 7pm at St. Lucy. Consecration will be on December 8th. This retreat is open to men and women. For more information call Andrea Renner at IT S A MATTER OF LIFE... Ending abortion at its core is a cultural moral issue, a human rights, social justice and anti-violence movement. In light of that, abortion is NOT fundamentally a womenʹs issue as the deceptively named pro-choice community and the secular feminist movement argue. Even if abortion were somehow the best thing in the world for women, it would still be just as immoral and unjust. HAT AND GLOVE COLLECTION We will be collecting new adult hats and gloves to give to the people who come to the St. Vincent DePaul kitchen in Warren for Thanksgiving. There will be baskets located at all of the church entrances to place your donations. We often take for granted how lucky we are to have the warm surround us why not share some of that this holiday season....which is the first of all the commandments? The scribe in the Gospel is not being hostile. He liked Jesus, but wanted Jesus to settle a question they had. The rabbis has expanded the Ten Commandments to 613 rules of conduct and wanted to rank them order of importance. Jesus sums up the commandments calling us to love God and then love our neighbor. Some people find it easy to love God and difficult to love our neighbor. Jesus says not to fail to make the connection. You can t say you love God without loving our neighbor and we can t say we really love our neighbor totally and well without loving God first. We re called to minister, not volunteer.

4 TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Just two years ago, we engaged in one of the core activities of our democratic system: a presidential election. Actually, the institution of election can be traced to traditions in the Church, and although bishops are no longer chosen in this way, abbots and abbesses (heads of monastic communities) have almost always been elected by full voting members of their communities. The lifetime appointment begins when the monks or nuns are gathered in chapter at the death or resignation of the abbot, and fortunately for all involved, campaigning is not allowed! The members of the community discern, with prayer to the Holy Spirit, who among them is the best suited for leadership. Once chosen, the new leader requests the blessing of the local bishop, who usually presides at a ceremony of consecration or investiture. The ballots are always secret, and a simple majority must be achieved. In our American system the Electoral College is the determining voice in the presidential election, not the popular election on a November Tuesday, just as the monastic chapter is the electorate. Today, most religious orders elect general superiors in chapter by delegates of the professed members, and usually for a term of six years. A few, like the Jesuits, elect for life. If you had a key previously, but did not receive a code, then you will set off the alarm upon entering the building. Installation of the new security system is finalized also at St. Lucy. If you have a key to St. Lucy, you need to contact the office asap as that system is also ready to go and has been activated. Codes will be given out to be used with this system also. REMEMBER: Even if you have a key at either church, you must have a code or you will set off the alarms. GOD S LAWS God s laws are not intended to burden or torment us. Instead they are guideposts that point us in the direction of good living. Accordingly, good living requires loving God and loving one another. We should not follow God s laws out of fear of what might happen if we don t, but rather view them as a foundation for building relationships and trust with one another and with God. The Shema prayer of Orthodox Jews is based on the reading from Deuteronomy today, Hear, O Israel. Every morning people recite the prayer as a profession of their love for God and pledge their obedience to God throughout the day.
