1 SAINT ISAAC JOGUES CATHOLIC CHURCH OUR MISSION I am the vine, you are the branches. St. Isaac Jogues Parish is a branch of the true vine, Jesus Christ. Our goal is to continue to build the kingdom of God while recognizing the need to remain in Christ. God has chosen us to go forth and bear much fruit, through our ministries of Liturgy, Faith Formation, Service, Stewardship, and Evangelization. Love one another as I have loved you. Celebration of Mass Saturday: 4:00 PM Sunday: 7:30, 9:00, 11:15 AM, & 5:30 PM Monday-Friday: 9:00 AM (Seton Chapel) Parish Office Hours Monday- Thursday: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Friday: 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM Today Sunday, May 21, 2017 Sixth Sunday of Easter God s Word What does it mean to be a Christian? In John 13:35, Jesus tells His disciples that it is the joy in their hearts that will be a sign to all that they are followers of Christ. Today, we share in that same joy as we celebrate the Sixth Sunday of Easter. Not only did Jesus die and rise from the dead, but He did it so that we may live with Him forever. This resurrection is the source of our joy, the joy of the good news. The joy of the resurrection is the reason for our hope. This hope that we are all called to spread to the nations. As St. Paul reminds us in our second reading, always be ready to give the reason for your hope. That hope has changed us, and, in turn, calls us to help it changes others as well. 2 From The Pastor Dear Saint Isaac Jogues family, I am very excited to share that Archbishop Lori has chosen our parish to host another seminarian! This is a great honor for our parish to be selected again, but this time not just for a summer, but for an entire year. We will have many opportunities to interact with Niko Wentworth who will begin his ministry among us on June 1st. Niko was born in Sicily and grew up in Severna Park, has been studying at St. Mary s Seminary in Roland Park, and comes to us with incredible gifts and talents. I look forward to Niko s arrival and feel confident you will as well. Next weekend s pastor s column will be a letter from Niko to us. He is very eager to join our family! Last, but certainly not least, a big thank you to everyone who made these last weeks so very special in our parish. We had terrific celebrations for First Communion, Marian crowning and our volunteer appreciation picnic! We have welcomed several visitors who have now decided to join our community. This is happening because of you! In Christ, Fr. That Spirit of truth is the Third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit. It is only through the Spirit that we are able to enter into the fullness of communion with the Father and the Son and embrace the Good News of the Gospel in our daily lives. ( THANK YOU to our catechists, assistants, substitutes, CLOW teachers, and our Sunday office assistants. Thank you for the many hours of time and effort you gave to our Faith Formation program this year. It is sometimes difficult to see from week to week, but everything we do in Faith Formation is planting seeds of faith. Sometimes we do not see an immediate result, sometimes we do. But we can always be assured that with God s help these seeds we plant will one day blossom. Thank you for making Faith Formation so successful. FAITH FORMATION SCHEDULE: July VBS, Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 12:00 noon Sunday, September 17 Classes in session / FF Opening Mass at 9:00 AM Faith Formation Office Contact Information Deacon Mike mbaxter@sij.org Janet Wheat jwheat@sij.org Office hours: Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Friday, 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM (beginning May 26) Liturgy Corner Liturgy Corner Why do people bow in the middle of the Creed? There are many times throughout the Mass that we are called to bow our heads or a profound bow of the body. Every time the name of Jesus is made throughout the Mass, the Church calls us the simply bow our heads in reverence as a physical sign of where our hearts are at that point in the Mass. The profound bow that you see people do during the Creed has a different meaning. This bow of the body shows happens during the line by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. This is the greatest event in Salvation History; God becomes flesh. Because of this awesome significance, we show our respect by bowing with our whole body.

As someone has profoundly put it, People may not always believe what you say, but they will always believe what you do. So our effort is to live as Jesus asked us to live when He gave the criteria for entering the kingdom of God, I was hungry and you fed me; thirsty and you gave me something to drink; naked and you clothed me; in prison and you visited me; a stranger and you took me in Put simply, the best way to show our belief in God is through the sermon of our lives.
