1 SAINT ISAAC JOGUES CATHOLIC CHURCH OUR MISSION I am the vine, you are the branches. St. Isaac Jogues Parish is a branch of the true vine, Jesus Christ. Our goal is to continue to build the kingdom of God while recognizing the need to remain in Christ. God has chosen us to go forth and bear much fruit, through our ministries of Liturgy, Faith Formation, Service, Stewardship, and Evangelization. Love one another as I have loved you. Celebration of Mass Saturday: 4:00 PM Sunday: 7:30, 9:00, 11:15 AM, & 5:30 PM Monday-Friday: 9:00 AM (Seton Chapel) Parish Office Hours SUMMER HOURS (May 26 - September 29) Monday-Thursday: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Friday: 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM Contact Us Parish Office: Faith Formation: Youth Ministry: sij@sij.org Fax: Today Sunday, August 27, 2017 Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time God s Word Jesus became man to make all men His brothers and co-heirs with Him to the eternal kingdom. To carry on His divine mission on earth, He founded the Church on the Apostles. This was to be God s new Chosen People who s mission was to bring the message of salvation to all men. For the Church to carry out its mission to help all men reach their eternal kingdom, it had to ensure the road and aids offered to its members. The Church had to be sure that what it told men to believe and to practice was what God wanted. Today s reading from St. Matthew tells us how Christ provided for this necessity. In making Peter the head of the Apostolic College, the foundation-stone of his Church, and the promise that all his decisions would be ratified in heaven, Christ gave him freedom from error when officially teaching the universal Church. This has been the constant belief in the Church from its very beginning. Excerpted from The Sunday Readings by Fr. Kevin O Sullivan, O.F.M. Today s Readings: First Reading: Isaiah 22:19-23 Second Reading: Romans 11:33-36 Gospel: Matthew 16:13-20 ST. ISAAC JOGUES CATHOLIC CHURCH 9215 Old Harford Road Baltimore, MD

2 From From the ThePastor Pastor Dear Saint Isaac Jogues family, Over the course of this past year, the seven members of our pastor s council (John Nietubicz, Joyce Eierman, Teri Strobel, Tony Sochurek, Pablo Sainz, Joseph Schlee and Shirley Zongker) met with Rick Balog and myself to have open discussions regarding a variety of topics impacting our parish. Each meeting began with Evening Prayer followed by a simple meal and then our work session. Between meetings they worked tirelessly in researching questions, gaining feedback, and most importantly, prayerfully reflecting on the parish. Their diverse makeup provided incredible insight and the expression of varying thoughts and feelings which proved to be invaluable to me. Their input directly shaped many aspects of our parish life. Many of the members of this council had served in this advisory role for many years. As a result, I asked them to suggest new members to follow in their footsteps and example. I accepted their suggestions and will announce them in my next column. Please pray for these fellow parishioners who have so lovingly served our parish and are now already assuming new roles of service within our parish. In Christ, Fr. (From the General Instruction on the Roman Missal) The priest calls upon the people to pray and everybody, together with the priest, observes a brief silence so that they may become aware of being in God s presence and may call to mind their intentions. As someone has profoundly put it, People may not always believe what you say, but they will always believe what you do. So our effort is to live as Jesus asked us to live when He gave the criteria for entering the kingdom of God, I was hungry and you fed me; thirsty and you gave me something to drink; naked and you clothed me; in prison and you visited me; a stranger and you took me in Put simply, the best way to show our belief in God is through the sermon of our lives.
