Last year, 140 PARISH DONORS helped us raise $42, of our $54,300 goal. This year s theme of Let Us Love reminds us that our gifts to Together in Mission are an active demonstration of our faith and love for those in our Archdiocese who need our support. We invite all families, those who have given in the past, and those who have never made a gift to prayerfully consider to make a commitment to this year s campaign. 5 March 4, 2018 LENT ACTIVITIES CALENDAR FEB 16 - MARCH 23 - EVERY FRIDAY STATIONS OF THE CROSS: 5:30 PM In order to meaningfully observe the season of Lent, we will pray the Stations of the Cross every Friday, at 5:30pm followed by Mass at 6:00pm. Our fiscal year covers from July 1, 2016 to June 30, We are delighted to report to you that we were able to cover all of our expenses, came up with a surplus, secured operating cash and investment in the bank, and reduced our Archdiocesan Liability. As a result, we are moving forward with great confidence rebuilding our parish. Our Statement of Activities reflects a net income of $42,730. Besides covering all of our expenses, we were fortunate to contribute $290,000 to the St. Barnabas Investment Pool as reflected in the Expense section. Our balance sheet reflects the operating cash of $435,954 and investment funds of $334,853. Our Archdiocesan Liability account was reduced from $618,751 to $509,858. Thanks to your continued generosity and the good will of our Sponsors and Anonymous Donors. Our Offertory Collections increased by almost 10% and allowed us to cover all of the Parish s operating expenses, in addition to allowing us to complete several projects, which had previously been delayed. While our expenses increased substantially, we were still able to cover them. Some of the larger expenses include the repairs and maintenance cost of $52,975 and church capital improvements of $93,752 that were put off last year. We were able to complete several construction projects that were previously budgeted, including the remodeling of the church restrooms and the Parish Hall Legacy Brick project. As you are aware, our parish facilities have been neglected for many years and the projects such as these couldn t be avoided. And, with your continued generosity, we hope to move forward with several planned projects during the coming years. Our church festival in October 2016 was able to make a net profit of $4,671 and continues to be a successful event which brought together many of our church communities. Our Legacy Brick initiative brought in a total of $60,736. The cost of our utilities was lowered by $2,654, due to the installation of a more efficient telephone system. This is the first year that we have been able to isolate the cost of the Religious Education Program for a total of $51,336. 7 March 4, 2018 all of our religious education programs. The unfunded Accumulated Archdiocesan Assessment which had a previous balance of $618,751 at June 30, 2016 has now been decreased to $509, 858. This amount is reflected in the Balance sheet as a long term liability and an off-set to equity. This is a reduction from the previous year in the amount of $108,893. If we continue on this path, we should be able to pay off the Accumulated Assessment within the next five years. The accumulated Assessment reflects multiple years of payments owed to the Archdiocese to pay for Parish insurance, Parish pensions, and Archdiocesan overhead which were previously neglected. We will continue with our fiduciary duty to help stabilize our finances and should be able to eventually wipe out our debt. Additional details on this Assessment will be discussed further at the upcoming town hall meeting to be held in the Parish hall on April 10, 2018 at 6:30pm. We carefully managed our expenses over the past year. With your support, we will continue to work towards a positive path that will make our Parish more sustainable and strengthen our faith community, while allowing us to retire the debt which we have been battling for more than 15 years. 8 Page 8 St. Barnabas Catholic Church March 4, 2018 PARISH-WIDE NEW PILLOW & CASE The Project Achieve Ministry at St. Barnabas cooks and serves meals for 60 shelter residents, 6 times a month. Over time, many items at the shelter become worn down from use and repeated washing. This Easter, we are looking to help the shelter by donating NEW pillows and pillow cases for our friends at Project Achieve.
