It was the elders of Israel who declared David king that day, but it was God who called David to shepherd Israel. Thus mandated by the citizens of his kingdom and by his God, David took his place in a long line of kings. The apostle Paul speaks to us of kingship as well, but on a much higher plane: the kingship of Jesus our Lord. As great as David was, he and all earthly monarchs who came before and after him in their kingdoms around the world are minor kings by comparison to the true King. And lastly, we hear the story of that true King in perhaps his weakest moment: near death, hanging on a cross, taunted by a common criminal and by the world at large. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. ROSARY/DIVINE MERCY Please join us in reciting the Rosary every morning (Monday through Saturday) at 7:35 am before daily Mass. It is a beautiful and spiritual way to start your day. Every day following weekday Mass, we invite you to join us for the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. It starts about five minutes after Mass (around 8:35 am). It can be the best fifteen minutes of the day. From his childhood, high spirits and happiness were the most outstanding characteristics of his personality. At 20, he became a Jesuit novice and shortly thereafter was exiled because of the Mexican revolution. Father Pro spent the rest of his life in a secret ministry to the sturdy Mexican Catholics. In addition to fulfilling their spiritual needs, he also carried out the works of mercy by assisting the poor of Mexico City with their temporal needs. Falsely accused in a bombing attempt on the President-elect, Pro became a wanted man. He was betrayed to the police and sentenced to death without the benefit of any legal process. On the day of his death, Father Pro forgave his executioners, prayed, bravely refused the blindfold, and died proclaiming "Long Live Christ the King!"

VIRTUS Training Class Extraordinary Jubilee Holy Year Of Mercy: December 8, November 20, 2016 Special Collection: CCHD The collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) provides funding for groups that make lasting change and uplift the poor in the United States. CCHD s grants improve education, support economic development, and create affordable housing in low-income neighborhoods. Help us continue to defend human dignity and build communities of solidarity. VIRTUS TRAINING VIRTUS Protecting God s Children is a three hour training for adults which teaches the five basic steps of child sexual abuse prevention. This miraculous image has proved to be ageless, and is kept in the shrine built in her honor, the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City and is the most visited Catholic pilgrimage site in the world, and the world's third most-visited sacred site. 6 Page 6 St. Barnabas Catholic Church First Friday Adoration ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Friday, December 2nd, :30 AM to 7:00 PM Come join us for meditative prayer before Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament every First Friday of the month, starting after the 8:00 am Mass until 7:00 pm, followed by a Mass at 7:30 pm. We invite our parishioners to spend some time before the Blessed Sacrament and pray for an increase in vocations and your own personal intentions. The Church and the world have a great need of Eucharistic worship. Jesus waits for us in this Sacrament of Love. Let us be generous with our time in going to meet Him in adoration and in contemplation that is full of faith May our adoration never cease. Saint John Paul II November 20, 2016 Stewardship Committee The talk with Tim Staples last Sunday was a great success. Tim shared with us his own conversion story, and explained the common misconceptions that others have about our faith. He passionately defended our Catholic teachings with clarity and thoroughness while still being entertaining and humorous. We extend our thanks to Tim Staples and Catholic Answers for an informative afternoon.
