Dear Friends, First, let me thank all of you for the prayers, food and support given me over the past several weeks. I am on my way to recovery and looking forward to the coming months. Our congratulations to the following people who were elected to the vestry: Kit Barksdale, Andee Frier, and George Riviere, were elected to a three-year term. Anita Warner was elected to a two-year term and Clint Burchfield was elected to a one year term. With this election the vestry now has nine members including a Sr. and Jr. Warden. In 2018 Lane Debardeleben will serve as Sr. Warden and Megan Martinez will serve as Jr. Warden. February 14th is Ash Wednesday. We will have a service of Imposition of Ashes and Holy Eucharist at 6:00 p.m. on that day. There will be NO supper or discussion on Ash Wednesday. During the Lenten season we will have our usual Wednesday evening service of Holy Eucharist and Healing and follow that service with some soup and salad. Our Lenten focus this year will be on some general discussion on topics which you might have a question. There will be no limit on the topics - in other words, you can ask about whatever interests you. I encourage you to participate in the discipline of regular worship and study during the season of Lent. Faithfully, Cecil Page 3 of 16
Senior Warden Hello Everybody, As your new Senior Warden I look forward to helping Cecil continue the progress we made last year along with our expanded vestry. I hope all of you will enjoy and participate in the many ways that Christ Church celebrates our Christian lives. Please join in to make it a great year! Lane DeBardeleben Junior Warden Thank you to everyone who was able to make the annual parish meeting. I hope you all found it informative and enjoyed the fellowship! I know I did! This is going to be such an exciting year for our parish. Your enthusiasm and willingness to participate is overwhelming! If you have any particular interests, skills, or ideas, please let Cecil or a vestry member know. I look forward to serving as your junior warden for the next year. Megan Martinez Page 4 of 16
Security System A new security system has been installed in the church building. Because so many people have keys, the system will not be turned on regularly. We ask that you do not touch the system keypads located in church. You will be notified when the security system is activated. Thank you for all that you do We will be revising the prayer list on the first of each month. Unless you tell us differently, any name put on the list will be removed at the end each month. If a name needs to remain on the list indefinitely, please let us know. Please call the church office or leave a note with Cecil to place a name on the prayer list. Office: Thank you Would you like to get more involved? Page 5 of 16

All are Welcome No Experience Needed No Classes to attend Thursdays at 12:00pm Beginning February 15, 2018 About Centering Prayer Centering Prayer is a receptive method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Centering Prayer is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer. Rather, it adds depth of meaning to all prayer and facilitates the movement from more active kinds of prayer into a receptive prayer of resting in God. Centering Prayer emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God and as a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Christ. Prayer as Relationship The Method of Centering Prayer Thoughts and the Use of the Sacred Word Deepening our Relationship with God Continued Sessions ~ Thursdays at 12:00pm February 22 March 1 March 8 March 15 March 22 Sponsored by Christ Episcopal Church For information and resources: Contemplative Outreach, Ltd. 10 Park Place, 2nd Floor, Suite B Butler, NJ Page 9 of 16

February 25, 2018 Performing Artists ~ 4:00 PM "The Icemen" New Orleans Jazz Trio Welcome to the world of... The Icemen. The Icemen is a jazz trio formed to deliver quality chamber jazz in the traditional style of 1920's New Orleans. As an offshoot of The Last Straws, we are dedicated to the performance and preservation of New Orleans Jazz. Originally formed by the late, great Walter Chamberlain, we have been playing various venues on the Bay St. Louis area and beyond since Walter's sudden demise in The Icemen's name was penned by our bassist, Bob Ice. Bob has been playing upright bass with The Last Straws since the 1950's, with which he's performed throughout New Orleans, the U.S., and internationally. Filling Walter's shoes is the fantastic Neil Unterseher, who's banjo stylings are world famous. He's played with and led many top groups since the 1960's, from here to Japan. Rounding out the group is Rory Duffour on clarinet. He's been tooting the stick with The Last Straws for about 5 years, and was part of Walter's regular trio as well, He can been seen at French Quarter Fest, Jazzfest, and various NorthShore events with his jazz sextet, the Bayou Liberty Jazz Band. We hope you appreciate the nostalgic sights and sounds of New Orleans, as much as we have in playing them for you. We do concerts, private parties, or festivals, with groups from three to six pieces, depending on the venue. Page 13 of 16
February 25, 2018 Visual Artists ~ 5:00 PM The Artists of Gallery 220 Bay St. Louis Gallery 220 is a co-operative art gallery that was organized just five weeks after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Mississippi Gulf Coast in August Located a couple of blocks from the beach in an historic building in Old Town Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, the Gallery comprises a group of artists and business people who rose to the formidable challenges which the storm presented. Thanks to the perseverance and hard work of building owners Jenise McCardell and Mark Currier of Clay Creations, the building was cleaned out and repaired in time for the October Second Saturday Art walk, a much-loved tradition in Old Town. Author Ellis Anderson sums it up perfectly, "The gallery is housed in one of the few examples of art deco architecture in Old Town Bay St. Louis. While filled with amazing artwork by award-winning artists, you will not have the stereotypical "art gallery" experience when walking through the doors here." Twenty-five local artists belong to the co-operative gallery and split up the work schedule. That means once you walk through the door, you will be greeted by artists who feel passionate about their work and will happily share both knowledge and enthusiasm while staffing the gallery. Gallery 220 features Page 14 of 16
paintings, drawings, sculptures, jewelry, mosaics, t-shirts, pottery, photography and so much more. It is the type of place where art and real life blissfully meet, where customers stay long after their purchase to enjoy in the energy and good vibes and everyone feels welcomed and instantly at ease. It has become one of the most energetic artist co-ops on the Gulf Coast. Stop by and meet the artists and find out why this Old Town gallery is an epicenter of creative energy. Participating 4 th Sunday at 4 Artists Michelle Allee Holly Boynes Barbara Brodtmann Mark Buszkiewicz Regan Carney P. Chris Christofferson Dodie Connor Janet Densmore Sandra Mendoza Epton Amy Kramer Judy Lee Nancy Lowentritt Vicki Lueb Pam Marshall Jenise McCardell Mark Currier Julie Nelson Tommy Lewis Vicki Rosendahl Joanna Slay Herb Wiley ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "4th Sunday at 4" is Christ Episcopal Church's gift to the Coastal Community. As such, "4th Sunday at 4" is free and open to the public. Also, no artist, performing or visual, is charged a fee to participate, nor is any commission or percentage taken by the church. All money in the "donation basket" is given to the performers, and all payments for art go directly to the artist. A church is seldom in a position to engage an entire community, but it can do its part by supporting one segment of a community. Christ Episcopal Church has chosen to do this by providing an ideal location for showcasing our local artists. For further information, contact: Church or Chairman: Page 15 of 16
Book Sharing Library Shelf is located in the parish office hallway. Everyone is invited to take a book to read and/or to leave a book for someone else. For more information please contact Sally Johnson or the church office. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Page 16 of 16
