The last two lines were dropped from our Pastor s Column in the April 3 bulletin: They [Fr. Barnes and the 8th grade Confirmation group in Italy for Easter break] have been praying for us in the Ancient and Holy Shrines in Rome and elsewhere in Italy. Grazie a Dio! Mea culpa. Bulletin Editor WE WELCOME THROUGH THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Plamena Draganova Our Lord blesses each of us with a unique call for our lives single, married or religious. Through prayer, we receive the peace and guidance to accept His plan for us. I urge you to join in praying for all vocations and in particular for the priesthood and consecrated religious life in our parish, our diocese and around the world. Next Sunday, April 17, is World Day of Prayer for Vocations (also known as Good Shepherd Sunday), a good time to redouble our prayers that more men and women will hear and respond Yes! to God s call to the priesthood or religious life. In addition to praying for new vocations, we should not forget to pray for the men who currently serve us as priests and those currently in seminary studying for the priesthood. They need continuing grace from God to always remain open to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in their vocation. The timing is just right as we approach May and June when so many of the priests of our diocese mark the anniversaries of their ordination. (I will celebrate the 25th anniversary of my own ordination in May. More on that in the coming weeks!) A Prayer for Priests Lord Jesus, You have chosen priests from among us to proclaim Your word and act in Your name. For so great a gift, we praise and thank You. Fill them with the fire of Your love, that their ministry may reveal Your presence in the Church. Since they are earthen vessels, we pray Your power will shine through their weaknesses. In their difficulties, let them never be crushed; in their doubts, never despair; in temptation, never be destroyed; in persecution, never abandoned. Be their comfort, joy, strength and refuge. May she who formed you in her human image form them in Your divine image, by the power of Your Holy Spirit, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.
3 Third Sunday of Easter Page Three PRO-LIFE CORNER VOCATIONS Feed My lambs, tend My sheep. If you think you may have a vocation to follow the Risen Lord as a priest, deacon or in the consecrated life, contact: Father J. D. Jaffe at or j.jaffe@arlingtondiocese.org. Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. (Jeremiah 1:5) Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us. Project Rachel, Post Abortion Help HOPE Gabriel Project, Pregnancy Help Arlington Catholic Charities Adoption Services WELCOME & CONTINUED PRAYERS for those who were baptized, confirmed and received into full communion with the Catholic Church here at St. Mary at Easter! Congratulations! + Melanie Adams + + Michelle Brandon + + Jodie Dalton + + Plamena Draganova + + Sean Dunbar + + Monika Dunbar + + Molly Fogarty + + James Griffin + + Maren Hoover + + Brenda Hrynkiw + + Robert Huff + + Jeff Jacobson + + Kendal Kaminski + + Lauren Kimlin + + Amanda Kropp + + Susan Manis + + Meghan Perez-Acosta + + Jonathan Schweppe + + Joy Waters + + Zachary Waters + ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT We are so fortunate here at St. Mary's to have the opportunity each week to pray before the Blessed Sacrament. When we set aside time for Jesus, we find we not only have the obvious benefits from this "spiritual communion" with Him, but we become increasingly aware of His presence in the busier moments of our lives when there is so much to preoccupy us. When we spend time alone with Jesus, our love for Him becomes more intimate, and our love for each other more compassionate. This communion with Him carries over into life's most demanding periods. Visiting Our Lord in Adoration is also the perfect time to show gratitude for all He has blessed us with. He is waiting for us to visit!! Think of spending just one hour per week with Our Lord. Sign-up sheets for a new session running from May through July will be in the rear of the church. Adoration is on Wednesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., concluding with a Holy Hour. For more information, contact: Mary Stier at or mlpstier@gmail.com. COME PRAY THE ROSARY Every third Saturday of the month, following the 8:30 a.m. Mass, join other St. Mary parishioners in praying in front of the Alexandria Women s Health Clinic at 101 South Whiting Street, near Landmark Mall. Our next gathering to pray for pregnant mothers and their unborn children will be April 16. If you need transportation to the clinic, contact Suzan Cummins at HELP BABIES & THEIR FAMILIES The MaRiH Center needs our help! This emergency pregnancy service offers alternatives to abortion and supports women in crisis as well as their babies. The Center is autonomous and wholly dependent on contributions. Our St. Mary parish pro-life ministry will host a donation drive to support the MaRiH Center before and after all Masses the weekend before Mother s Day, April 30-May 1. We will collect unwrapped baby items including baby clothing up to two years, especially onesies, strollers, disposable diapers (3-6 months), diaper wipes, receiving blankets, hooded towels, baby toiletries, etc. High chairs, bouncy seats, car seats and maternity clothing also are needed. A complete list of needed items can be found on the MaRiH poster at the back of the church. Monetary contributions also are welcome. If you have any questions, contact Suzan Cummins at ST. MARY S PLAYGROUP Meet with moms and their young children on Monday mornings (except holidays) at the parish Lyceum, local noor low-cost venues or, in comfortable weather, local parks. If you re interested in joining us, contact Kerri Griffin at saintmarystots@gmail.com.
