2 Sunday 11 June 2017: TRINITY SUNDAY Collect Almighty and everlasting God, you have given us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity: keep us steadfast in this faith, that we may evermore be defended from all adversities; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah Isaiah , Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? Who has directed the spirit of the Lord, or as his counsellor has instructed him? Whom did he consult for his enlightenment, and who taught him the path of justice? Who taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding? Even the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are accounted as dust on the scales; see, he takes up the isles like fine dust. Lebanon would not provide fuel enough, nor are its animals enough for a burnt-offering. All the nations are as nothing before him; they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness. Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God? Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm 8 1. O Lord our governor, how excellent is thy name in all the world: thou that has set thy glory above the / heavens. 2. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. 10 ADVANCE NOTICES Baptism/Confirmation Classes - Adults who wish to be baptised or confirmed, or simply enquire about the faith: Contact Canon Mari Price ( ) to arrange classes. The Annual Rainbow Fair will take place on Friday 30th June from 6:00-8:00 pm on the Cathedral Green. There will be stalls, games and activities, drinks and refreshments, music, dancing, the ever popular donkey rides and, hopefully, a fire engine. In addition, this year we will have a licenced summer drinks stall and a change from the usual fancy dress competition to "the best dressed owner and dog" as part of a novelty dog show. If you would like to enter the Dog Show please contact Sue Valenton on for categories and registration details. Please come along and join in the fun. Anyone wishing to run a stall or game or activity please contact Judith Thompson on or any member of the Social Committee. Training for Guides and Welcomers - Our next talk will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday 13th June when David Jones will talk about Disestablishment. Please note the rearranged date. This will be followed by light refreshment in Prebendal House at 2:45pm. These very interesting and informative talks are open to all, not just the Guides and Welcomers, so please come and join us. We also need a few more volunteers to help out as there are still a few welcoming sessions to fill. Fr Edward Le Brun Powell will join us as Assistant Curate with effect from the end of this month. Fr Edward will be ordained priest on 24th June here at the Cathedral at 10.30am, you are most welcome to attend. Fr Edward will preside for the first time at a celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 3.30pm on Sunday 25th June. I hope therefore, that as many of you as possible will come to support him on this special occasion, as he presides for the first time. It will be an important milestone in the commencement of his ministry.
