Deacon Hymn Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen Christ is made the sure foundation, Christ the head and cornerstone, Chosen of the Lord and precious, Binding all the church in one. Holy Zion s help for ever, And her confidence alone. To this temple, where we call you, Come O Lord of hosts, today; You have promised loving kindness, Hear your servants as they pray, Bless your people now before you, Turn our darkness into day. Hear the cry of all your people, What they ask and hope to gain, What they gain from you, for ever With your chosen to retain, And hereafter in your glory Evermore with you to reign. Praise and honour to the Father, Praise and honour to the Son, Praise and honour to the Spirit, Ever three and ever One, One in might and One in glory While unending ages run. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Page 3

Silence God is love and we are his children. There is no room for fear in love. We love because he loved us first. Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith. God our Father, we confess to you and to our fellow members in the Body of Christ that we have sinned in thought, word and deed, and in what we have failed to do. We are truly sorry. Forgive us our sins, and deliver us from the power of evil, for the sake of your Son who died for us, Jesus Christ, our Lord. God, who is both power and love, forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord. Amen. (Sung) Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. The in Charge elect moves forward, flanked by two Vestry members, the congregation are seated. Page 4

Patrons Most Reverend Father in God, we present to you the Reverend Hamilton Inbadas who has been chosen for this Charge. We believe him to be worthy to serve God and God s people in this Office. I call on the Dean to read the License. Hamilton do you, in the presence of this congregation commit yourself to this new trust and responsibility? I do The members of the congregation of the charge are asked to stand. Do you the people of St John the Episcopal Church, Forres, commit yourselves to share with Hamilton in the ministry of this church? We do. Visitors to the congregation are asked to stand. As brothers and sisters in the Body of Christ, will you support Hamilton and this congregation in their ministry together? We will. Let us then offer our prayers for all God s people, for this congregation and for Hamilton now called to be their. Silence The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified: hear our prayer which we offer for all members of your Holy Church; that in their vocation and ministry they may serve you in holiness and truth to the glory of your name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Ministry of the Word A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah Isaiah A reading from St Paul s letter to the Colossians Colossians Page 5

Hymn Deacon Deacon Deacon my hope in God is founded; He doth still my trust renew. Me through change and chance he guideth, Only good and only true. God unknown, he alone Calls my heart to be his own. Human pride and earthly glory, Sword and crown betray his trust; What with care and toil he buildeth, Tower and temple, fall to dust. But God s power, hour by hour, Is my temple and my tower. God s great goodness aye endureth, Deep his wisdom, passing thought: Splendour, light and life attend him, Beauty springeth out of naught. Evermore, from his store, New-born worlds rise and adore. Still from earth to God eternal Sacrifice of praise be done, High above all praises praising For the gift of Christ his Son. Christ doth call one and all: Ye who follow shall not fall. The Lord be with you And also with you Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke Glory to Christ our Saviour A reading from St Luke s Gospel Luke Give thanks to the Lord for this his glorious Gospel Praise to Christ our Lord. Sermon: The Right Reverend Gordon Mursell. Page 6

Hymn Angel voices ever singing round thy throne of light Angel harps for ever ringing, rest not day nor night; Thousands only live to bless thee, And confess thee Lord of might. Thou who are beyond the farthest mortal eye can see, Can it be that thou regardest our poor hymnody? Yes, we know that thou art near us And wilt hear us constantly. Yea, we know that thou rejoicest o er each work of thine Thou didst ears and hands and voices for thy praise design Craftsman s art and music s measure For thy pleasure all combine. In thy house, great God, we offer of thine own to thee; And for thy acceptance proffer all unworthily Hearts and minds and hands and voices In our choicest psalmody. Honour, glory, might and merit, thine shall ever be, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, blessed Trinity. Of the best that thou hast given Earth and heaven render thee. The Church is the people of God, the Body of Christ and the dwelling of the Holy Spirit. In Baptism we are called to make Jesus known as Saviour and Lord, and to share his work in renewing the world. Today we commit ourselves with Hamilton to ministry in this place. A member of the congregation presents a bible, saying: Hamilton, accept this Bible and be among us as a preacher of the word of God and a teacher of the faith. I invite you all to join with me in proclaiming the gospel of hope and life. Amen. We have good news to share. A member of the congregation presents the Holy Oils, saying: Hamilton, use this oil and be among us as a healer and reconciler. I invite you all to join with me in bringing wholeness of life to all people. Amen. In forgiveness and healing we find new life. A member of the congregation presents a prayer book, saying Hamilton, receive this prayer book and be among us as a person of prayer to lead our worship I invite you all to join with me in regular and constant prayer to our God. Amen. In quietness and confidence will be our strength. Page 7

Page 8 A member of the congregation presents bread and wine, saying Hamilton, take this bread and this wine and be among us to break the bread and bless the cup. I invite you all to join with me in the celebration of the Eucharist. Amen. May we know the lord Jesus in the breaking of bread. A member of the congregation presents the key of the church. Hamilton, receive this key and let the doors of this place be open to everyone. I invite you all to join with me in welcoming others to the fellowship of God s Church Amen. May we greet Christ in all people. A member of Diocesan clergy presents the Code of Canons, saying Hamilton, receive this Code of Canons, be subject to them and share with us in the Councils of this Diocese. I invite you all to join with me in working for the building up of Christ s Church. Amen. We are the body of Christ. Other gifts are presented with greetings: St John s Sunday School, their banner 2 nd Forres Boys Brigade, a Chaplain s badge St John s Youth Fellowship, a gift of light St John s Mothers Union, a membership pin St John s Choir, a hymn book The presents Hamilton with a priestly stole, saying Hamilton Receive this stole and be a servant of God s people in this place. I invite you all to join with me in joyful and humble service. Amen. We offer ourselves as a living sacrifice to God. Let this and all these gifts be signs of the ministry which is mine and yours and is shared by all people of God. This ministry can be carried out only in the power of God to who we now pray: The now kneels before the. O Lord my God, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. You have called your servant to stand in your house, and to serve at your altar. To you and to your service I devote myself, body, soul and spirit. Fill my memory with the record of your mighty works; enlighten my understanding with the light of your Holy Spirit; and may all the desires of my heart and will centre in on what you would have me do.

Make me an instrument of your salvation for the people in this place and grant that I may faithfully administer your Holy Sacraments and by my life and teaching set forth your true and living Word. Be always with me in carrying out the duties of my ministry. In prayer, quicken my devotion; in praise, enlighten my love and gratitude; in preaching, give me readiness of thought and expression; and grant that, by the clearness and brightness of your Holy Word, all the world may be drawn into your Blessed Kingdom. this I ask for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. Accept with joy the service of God as of this congregation. Preach the living Word of God, administer the sacraments of eternal life, guard and strengthen the flock now committed to your charge; and may the blessing of God Almighty be upon you and remain with you always. Amen. The congregation stands. We meet in Christ s name Let us share his peace Ministry of the Sacrament Heavenly Father, as we set before you these gifts of bread and wine, bless also the gift of our hearts and minds as we offer our lives in your service; for Jesus Christ s sake Let us present our offerings to the Lord. Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the splendour, and the majesty; for everything in heaven and on earth is yours. things come from you, and of your own we give you. The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is indeed right and good, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks through your servant Jesus Christ our Lord. At his baptism he was revealed as your beloved Son and coming among us as one who serves, he taught that they are greatest in your kingdom who make themselves least and the servants of all. Page 9

Although he was their teacher and their Lord, he washed the feet of his disciples, and commanded us to do the same. Through your Holy Spirit you bestow upon your people a rich diversity of gifts and ministries, and from this royal priesthood you raise up men and women to proclaim your word, to care for your people and to be the stewards of the mysteries of Christ. You call them to serve the world your Son redeemed and build up his body, the Church, to the greater glory of your name. And so with angels and archangels and all the heavenly host, we proclaim your glory and join their unending hymn of praise: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Glory and thanksgiving be to you, most loving Father, for the gift of your Son born in human flesh He is the Word existing beyond time, both source and final purpose, bringing to wholeness all that is made. Obedient to your will he died upon the Cross. By your power you raised him from the dead. He broke the bonds of evil and set your people free to be his Body in the world. On the night when he was given up to death, knowing that his hour had come, having loved his own, he loved them to the end. At supper with his disciples he took bread and offered you thanks. He broke the bread, Page 10

and gave it to them, saying: "Take, eat. This is my Body: it is broken for you." After supper, he took the cup, he offered you thanks, and gave it to them saying: "Drink this, all of you. This is my Blood of the new covenant; it is poured out for you, and for all, that sins may be forgiven. Do this in remembrance of me." We now obey your Son's command. We recall his blessed passion and death, his glorious resurrection and ascension; and we look for the coming of his Kingdom. Made one with him, we offer you these gifts and with them ourselves, a single, holy, living sacrifice. Hear us, most merciful Father, and send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon this bread and this wine, that, overshadowed by his life-giving power, they may be the Body and Blood of your Son, and we may be kindled with the fire of your love and renewed for the service of your Kingdom. Help us, who are baptised into the fellowship of Christ's Body to live and work to your praise and glory; may we grow together in unity and love until at last, in your new creation, we enter into our heritage in the company of the Virgin Mary, the apostles and prophets, and of all our brothers and sisters living and departed. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be to you, Lord of all ages, world without end. Amen. Page 11

Page 12 Rejoicing in the presence of God here among us, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The living bread is broken for the life of the world Lord unite us in this sign (Sung) Jesus, Lamb of God: have mercy on us. Jesus, bearer of our sins: have mercy on us. Jesus, redeemer of the world: give us your peace. Invitation to Communion Please come to the altar for your communion or for a blessing. During Communion the choir will sing Come Down, O Love Divine by William H. Harris Communion Hymn Lord Jesus Christ, you have come to us, You are one with us, Mary s Son Cleansing our souls from all their sin, Pouring your love and goodness in, Jesus our love for you we sing, Living Lord. Lord, Jesus Christ, now and every day Teach us how to pray, Son of God. You have commanded us to do This in remembrance, Lord, of you. Into our lives your power breaks through, Living Lord

Lord Jesus Christ, you have come to us, Born as one of us, Mary s Son. Led out to die on Calvary, Risen from death to set us free, Living Lord Jesus, help us see You are Lord. Lord Jesus Christ, I would come to you, Live my life for you, Son of God. your commands I know are true, Your many gifts will make me new, Into my life your power breaks through, Loving Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is gracious And his mercy endures for ever. Let us Pray Heavenly Father, whose ascended Son gave gifts of leadership and service to the Church: strengthen us who have received this holy food to be good stewards of your manifold grace; through him who came not to be served but to serve, and give his life as a ransom for many, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. May the boldness of the Spirit transform you, may the gentleness of the Spirit lead you, may the gifts of the Spirit equip you to serve and worship God; and the blessing of God Almighty, The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit be with you always. Amen. Recessional Hymn O Jesus I have promised to serve thee to the end; Be thou for ever near me, my Master and my friend; I shall not fear the battle if thou art by my side, Nor wander from the pathway if thou wilt be my guide. O let me feel thee near me; the world is ever near; I see the sights dazzle, the tempting sounds I hear; My foes are ever near me, around me and within; But, Jesus, draw thou nearer, and shield my soul from sin. Page 13

O let me hear thee speaking in accents clear and still, Above the storms of passion, the murmurs of self-will; O speak to reassure me, to hasten or control; O speak and make me listen thou guardian of my soul. O Jesus, thou hast promised, to all who follow thee, That where thou art in glory there shall thy servant be; And, Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end; O give me grace to follow, my Master and my friend. O let me see thy footmarks, and in them plant mine own; My hope to follow duly is in thy strength alone: O guide me, call me, draw me, uphold me to the end; And then in heaven receive me, my Saviour and my friend. Deacon Deacon Go in Peace to love and serve the Lord. In the name of Christ, Amen. Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen. Page 14
