Collect Almighty and everlasting God, you have given us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity: keep us steadfast in this faith, that we may evermore be defended from all adversities; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah Isaiah , 9, 10 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. And one called to another and said: Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory. The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the house filled with smoke. And I said: Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts! Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a live coal that had been taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? And I said, Here am I; send me! And he said, Go and say to this people: Keep listening, but do not comprehend; keep looking, but do not understand. Make the mind of this people dull, and stop their ears, and shut their eyes, so that they may not look with their eyes, and listen with their ears, and comprehend with their minds, and turn and be healed. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm 29 1Ascribe unto the Lord O ye hosts of heaven: ascribe unto the Lord glory and strength. 2 Ascribe unto the Lord the honour due unto his name: worship the Lord in raiment of holiness. 3 The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: it is the glorious God that maketh the thunder, even the Lord upon the great waters. 4 The voice of the Lord is mighty in operation: the voice of the Lord is a glorious voice. 5 The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedar trees: yea the Lord breaketh the I cedars of Lebanon. 6 He maketh them also to skip like a calf: Lebanon also and Sirion like young oxen. 7 The voice of the Lord divideth the lightning: the voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness, yea the Lord shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh. 8 The voice of the Lord maketh the hinds to be in travail, and the goats to bring forth before their time: in his temple do all cry Glory. 9 The Lord sitteth above the waterflood: the Lord sitteth as King for ever. 10 The Lord shall give strength unto his people: the Lord shall give his people the blessing of peace.

A reading from St Paul s Letter to the Romans Romans So then, brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh - for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, Abba! Father! it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ - if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Listen to the Gospel of Christ according to Saint John. John Glory to you, O Lord. Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. He came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God. Jesus answered him, Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above. Nicodemus said to him, How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother s womb and be born? Jesus answered, Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be astonished that I said to you, You must be born from above. The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. Nicodemus said to him, How can these things be? Jesus answered him, Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things? Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

HYMNS AT THE 11AM CHORAL EUCHARIST THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! early in the morning our song shall rise to thee; holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty! God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity! Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore thee, casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee, which wert and art and evermore shalt be. Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide thee, though the sinful human eye thy glory may not see, only thou art holy, there is none beside thee perfect in power, in love, and purity. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty! all thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea; holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty! God in three Persons, blessed Trinity. Words: Reginald Heber ( ) Music: NICAEA John Bacchus Dykes ( )

OFFERTORY HYMN How shall I sing that Majesty which angels do admire? Let dust in dust and silence lie; sing, sing, ye heavenly choir. Thousands of thousands stand around thy throne, O God most high; ten thousand times ten thousand sound thy praise; but who am I? Thy brightness unto them appears, whilst I thy footsteps trace; a sound of God comes to my ears; but they behold thy face: they sing because thou art their sun: Lord, send a beam on me; for where heaven is but once begun, there alleluias be. Enlighten with faith's light my heart, inflame it with love's fire; then shall I sing and bear a part with that celestial choir. I shall, I fear, be dark and cold, with all my fire and light; yet when thou dost accept their gold, Lord, treasure up my mite. How great a being Lord, is thine, which doth all beings keep! Thy knowledge is the only line to sound so vast a deep: thou art a sea without a shore, a sun without a sphere; thy time is now and evermore, thy place is everywhere. Words: John Mason (c ) Music: COE FEN Kenneth Naylor ( )

POST COMMUNION HYMN Thou whose almighty word chaos and darkness heard, and took their flight; hear us, we humbly pray, and where the Gospel-day sheds not its glorious ray, let there be light. Thou, who didst come to bring on thy redeeming wing healing and sight, health to the sick in mind, sight to the inly blind, O now to all mankind let there be light. Spirit of truth and love, life-giving, holy Dove, speed forth thy flight; move on the water's face, bearing the lamp of grace, and in earth's darkest place let there be light. Holy and blessed Three, glorious Trinity, Wisdom, Love, Might; boundless as ocean's tide rolling in fullest pride, through the earth far and wide let there be light. Words: John Marriott ( ), Thomas Raffles ( ) Music: MOSCOW Felice de Giardini ( )

All the usual fun activities such as the coconut shy, donkey rides, face painting, country dancing and a whole host of stalls and games will be there. Many thanks to everyone who has offered to run a stall or an activity. It is not too late if anyone is still considering taking part. Please speak to any member of the Social Committee or contact Judith Thompson on So put the date in your diary and come along and join the fun on the Cathedral Green between 6 and 8pm. Rainbow Fair Poster Competition - CALLING ALL YOUNG ARTISTS The Llandaff Cathedral Social Committee would like you to design a poster for the fair on A4 sized paper, making it as colourful as possible, to include the things we expect to see at a fair e.g. bunting and balloons, stalls, games, coconut shy, dancing, donkeys etc. and also a rainbow. The posters do NOT need to have any wording on them, just the picture. But it is really important that you put your NAME and AGE on the back. There will be prizes for the winners plus a certificate for everyone who takes part. The closing date is Sunday 24th June. Prizes will be given out at the Fair on Friday 6th July. Entries can be given to Sian Conners and Kelly Sylvester at Sunday School, to Charlotte Davey, our Church Warden, or anyone on Social Committee. Appeal for Readers at the 9am Parish Eucharist. We are always very grateful to all the members of the congregation who volunteer to read at the 9am Parish Eucharist. Currently I have a nucleus of about 30 readers who read once or twice throughout the year. It would be great to expand that number and in particular to attract new readers. Please help me to boost the pool of volunteers, if any members of the congregation, (including children), would like to join the reading rota please contact myself, Ian MacDonald.
