3 Welcome The Collect Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Confession and Absolution As we prepare to share in this Eucharist, let us confess our sins in penitence and faith. God our Father, we confess to you and to our fellow members in the Body of Christ that we have sinned in thought, word and deed, and in what we have failed to do. We are truly sorry. Forgive us our sins, and deliver us from the power of evil, for the sake of your Son who died for us, Jesus Christ, our Lord. God, who is both power and love, forgive us and free us from our sins, heal and strengthen us by his Spirit, and raise us to new life in Christ our Lord. ~ 3 ~

6 THE PRESENTATION Two members of the vestry of St Ninian s present Joan to the with these words: Right Reverend Father in God, we present to you the Reverend Joan Lyon who has been chosen to be Priest-in-Charge of the congregation of St Ninian s Episcopal Church, Aberdeen. We believe her to be worthy to serve God and God s people in this Office. Let us kneel and offer our prayers to God for all His people, for this congregation, and for Joan now called to be its Priest-in-Charge. Please kneel or sit The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Everliving God, strengthen and sustain Joan that with patience and understanding, she may love and care for your people; and grant that together they may follow Jesus Christ, offering to you their gifts and talents; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. ~ 6 ~

7 The calls for the Deed of Licence to be read. Joan stands before the. Joan, at your ordination you solemnly promised to minister the doctrine, sacraments and discipline of Christ; to be faithful in the study of the scriptures and in prayer; in your own life to seek to follow the example of Christ and to maintain and advance the peace and unity of God s people. Do you now re-affirm these promises? Joan I do, with God s help. Joan All Joan, do you, in the presence of this congregation commit yourself to this new trust and responsibility? I do, with God s help. Will you who witness this new beginning support and uphold Joan in this ministry? We will, with God s help. ~ 7 ~

8 Representatives from the congregation present Joan with symbols of the ministry in which they share. A Cross is presented Joan, receive this Cross as a sign of the witness and mission of our service in our community. The presents a cruet of water Joan, receive this water and be with me as one who baptises. Keys are presented Joan, receive this key, and let the doors of the church be open to all people. A Bible and a Prayer Book are presented Joan, accept this Bible and this Prayer Book and be among us as one who proclaims the Word and leads in prayer. A white stole is presented Joan, receive this stole and be among us as pastor and priest. Oil is presented Joan, be among us as a healer and reconciler. ~ 8 ~

9 Bread and Wine are presented Joan, take this bread and wine, and be among us to break the Bread and bless the Cup. The responds Joan, let all these be signs of the ministry which is mine and yours in St Ninian s Church. Joan kneels in front of the. Joan, accept with joy the Service of God as Priest-in-Charge of the congregation of St Ninian. Preach the Living Word of God, administer the Sacraments of eternal life, guard and strengthen the flock now committed to your Charge, and share in ministry with this community: and may the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit be upon you and upon all your work done in His Name. 10 The Peace We meet in Christ's name. Let us share his peace. Let us present our offerings to the Lord. Offertory Hymn Christians, lift your hearts and voices, let your praises be outpoured; come with joy and exultation to the table of the Lord; come believing, come expectant, in obedience to his word. See, presiding at his table, Jesus Christ our great high priest; Where he summons all his people, none is greatest, none is least. Graciously he bids them welcome to the eucharistic feast. Lord, we offer in thanksgiving life and work for you to bless; yet unworthy is the offering, marred by pride and carelessness; so, Lord, pardon our transgressions, plant in us true holiness. On the evening of his passion Jesus gave the wine and bread, so that all who love and serve him shall for evermore be fed. Taste and see the Lord is gracious feed upon the living bread. 11 Liturgy of The Sacrament Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the splendour, and the majesty; for everything in heaven and on earth is yours. All things come from you, and of your own we give you. The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. Worship and praise belong to you, maker of light and darkness. Your wisdom draws beauty from chaos, brings a harvest out of sorrow and leads exiles home. In Christ your Son, enemies are reconciled, debts forgiven and strangers made welcome. Your Spirit frees us to live as sons and daughters in our Father's house. We, who by Christ's power follow the way of the Cross, sharing the joy of his obedience, now offer you our praise, with angels and archangels and the whole company of heaven, singing the hymn of your unending glory: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might. 12 Glory and thanksgiving be to you, most loving Father, for Christ in whom the world is reconciled. Lifted on the cross, his suffering and forgiveness spanned the gulf our sins had made. Through that dark struggle, death was swallowed up in victory, that life and light might reign. Before he was given up to suffering and death, recalling the night of Israel s release, the night in which the sons of Egypt died, your Chosen One, himself the Firstborn, freely offered his life. At supper with his disciples he took bread and offered you thanks. He broke the bread, and gave it to them saying: Take, eat, this is my Body: it is broken for you. After supper, he took the cup, he offered you thanks and gave it to them saying: Drink this, all of you. This is my Blood of the new covenant; it is poured out for you, and for all, that sins may be forgiven. Do this in remembrance of me. We now obey your Son's command. We recall his blessed passion and death, his glorious resurrection and ascension; and we look for the coming of his Kingdom. Made one with him, we offer you these gifts and with them ourselves, a single, holy living sacrifice. Hear us, most merciful Father, and send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon this bread and this wine, that, overshadowed by his life giving power, they may be the Body and Blood of your Son, and we may be kindled with the fire of your love and renewed for the service of your Kingdom. Help us, who are baptised into the fellowship of Christ's Body to live and work to your praise and glory; may we grow together in unity and love until at last, in your new creation, we enter into our heritage in the company of the Virgin Mary, St Ninian, the apostles and prophets, and of all our brothers and sisters living and departed. ~ 12 ~

13 Through Jesus Christ our Lord, with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be to you, Lord of all ages, world without end. The living bread is broken for the life of the world. Lord, unite us in this sign. As our Saviour has taught us, so we pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Do not bring us to the time of trial but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever. ~ 13 ~
