2 Collect Most merciful God, who by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ delivered and saved the world: grant that by faith in him who suffered on the cross we may triumph in the power of his victory; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. A reading from the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Jeremiah The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt - a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. No longer shall they teach one another, or say to each other, Know the Lord, for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm 51 (vv1 12) 1 Have mercy upon me O God after thy great goodness: according to the multitude of thy mercies do away mine offences. 2 Wash me throughly from my wickedness: and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my faults: and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against thee only have I sinned and done evil in thy sight: so that thou art just in thy sentence and blameless in thy judgement. 5 Behold I was shapen in wickedness: and in sin hath my mother conceived me. 6 But lo thou hast laid up truth in the inward man: and hast taught me wisdom in the secret places of the heart, 7 Thou shalt purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Thou shalt make me hear of joy and gladness: that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. 9 Turn thy face from my sins: and put out all my misdeeds. 10 Make me a clean heart O God: and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from thy presence: and take not thy holy spirit from me. 12 O give me the comfort of thy help again: and strengthen me with a willing spirit.

3 A reading from the Letter to the Hebrews Hebrews So also Christ did not glorify himself in becoming a high priest, but was appointed by the one who said to him, You are my Son, today I have begotten you ; as he says also in another place, You are a priest for ever, according to the order of Melchizedek. In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered; and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, having been designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Listen to the Gospel of Christ according to Saint John. John Glory to you, O Lord. Now among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, Sir, we wish to see Jesus. Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. Jesus answered them, The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be also. Whoever serves me, the Father will honour. Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say - Father, save me from this hour? No, it is for this reason that I have come to this hour. Father, glorify your name. Then a voice came from heaven, I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again. The crowd standing there heard it and said that it was thunder. Others said, An angel has spoken to him. Jesus answered, This voice has come for your sake, not for mine. Now is the judgement of this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself. He said this to indicate the kind of death he was to die. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

Please do continue to keep us in your prayers. Llandaff Branch Mothers' Union: The Llandaff Diocesan Quiet Day will be held at the Cathedral on Monday 19 March. The day begins at 10.30am and ends at 3pm, and will be led by Revd Hayden England- Simon. There will be coffee available in Prebendal House from 10am and during the lunch break (please bring a packed lunch). The next branch meeting will be on Monday 16 April at 2.25pm, when the speaker will be Romeo Basini on the subject Talking About Italian, Part 1. Lent Lunches: The tradition of Lent Lunches has been a practice here in Llandaff for many years. A frugal lunch of soup, cheese, bread and butter followed by tea or coffee and some good conversation with friends, with proceeds going to charity to help those in need. The final Lent Lunch will take place in Prebendal House following the 12noon Eucharist on Tuesday 20 March, beginning at approximately 12.30pm and finishing at 1.30pm. The cost will be 6 payable at the door with all proceeds going to the Llandaff Cathedral Lenten Appeal. Llandaff Cathedral Social Committee. Another Story Must Begin: This week we will be meeting on Tuesday 20 March at 7.30pm in Prebendal House, where we will continue our Lenten reflections on the film Les Miserables. Tea and coffee will be provided and our meetings will conclude with a short service of Compline (Night Prayer). Please do bring a bible with you, otherwise all material will be given to you. Holy Eucharist with Lenten Address: A celebration of the Holy Eucharist, with a Lenten reflection, will be offered at 7.30pm each Wednesday through Lent. 10 The Bishop s Lent Talks: The final talk for the Llandaff Archdeaconry is at 3.30pm on Sunday 25 March, during Choral Evensong on Palm Sunday. All welcome. Guild of St Teilo: There is an amendment to the advertised programme on Monday 26 March, when Mr David Smith will be talking about Llandaff Conservation Rainbow Fair 2018: Our annual summer fair will take place this year on Friday 6 July, 6pm to 8pm on the Cathedral Green. Discussions have already started but if you have any ideas or suggestions, or would like to volunteer or run a stall or activity, then please speak to any member of the Social Committee or contact Judith Thompson on Llandaff Cathedral Social Committee. Christian Aid Week, May 13-19: In 2017 the Cathedral community raised over 12,000 in Christian Aid Week and nearly 8,000 came from the house-to-house collection. If we could do this again, we could improve the lives of over 1,000 displaced people who have no homes following natural disasters in Haiti, and who do not expect to survive the next (inevitable) disaster. But we can t do it without collectors! Each year there are a few of last year s who can t manage it and for whom we need replacements. It really doesn t take long: 3 hours should cover envelope delivery and a couple of collecting rounds for 20 houses and it can be done during the day or in the light evenings, so people out at work during the day can participate. We will supply everything you need for the collection; all you need to supply is your willingness to help. Just three hours in May to transform a thousand lives! Christian Aid and the Oxfam Scandal: The behaviour of a small number of people in the aid sector is likely to affect responses to the house-to-house collection in CA Week. It may be helpful for collectors to have a "line to take" if questions are raised on the doorstep, and this will be included in the Pack which collectors will receive in April. Full details of CA's policies and actions are readily available on the CA website ( It is very reassuring to know of CA's robust stand on all of this, a summary of which is displayed on the CA table at the back of the Cathedral.
