2 Collect O God the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: we beseech you, leave us not comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to the place where our Saviour Christ is gone before, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. A reading from the Book of Acts Acts , In those days Peter stood up among the believers (together the crowd numbered about one hundred and twenty people) and said, Friends, the scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit through David foretold concerning Judas, who became a guide for those who arrested Jesus - for he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry. So one of the men who have accompanied us throughout the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us - one of these must become a witness with us to his resurrection. So they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias. Then they prayed and said, Lord, you know everyone s heart. Show us which one of these two you have chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place. And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm 1 1 Blessèd is the man that hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor followed the way of sinners: and hath not sat in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord: and on his law doth he ponder day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree planted by the waterside: that will bring forth its fruit in due season. 4 Its leaf also shall not wither: and look, whatsoever he doeth, it shall prosper. 5 As for the ungodly it is not so with them: but they are like the chaff, which the wind scattereth away from the face of the earth. 6 Therefore the ungodly shall not be able to stand when they are judged: nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 7 For the Lord preserveth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

3 A reading from the First Letter of John 1 John If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son. Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Listen to the Gospel of Christ according to Saint John. John Glory to you, O Lord. I have made your name known to those whom you gave me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything you have given me is from you; for the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. I am asking on their behalf; I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom you gave me, because they are yours. All mine are yours, and yours are mine; and I have been glorified in them. And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them in your name that you have given me. I guarded them, and not one of them was lost except the one destined to be lost, so that the scripture might be fulfilled. But now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in the world so that they may have my joy made complete in themselves. I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I ask you to protect them from the evil one. They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you have sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, so that they also may be sanctified in truth. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

9 NOTICES Rainbow Fair Our annual summer fair will take place this year on Friday 6th July, 6pm to 8pm on the Cathedral Green. Discussions have already started but if you have any ideas or suggestions, or would like to volunteer or run a stall or activity, then please speak to any member of the Social Committee or contact Judith Thompson on Llandaff Cathedral Social Committee. Appeal for Readers at the 9am Parish Eucharist. We are always very grateful to all the members of the congregation who volunteer to read at the 9am Parish Eucharist. Currently I have a nucleus of about 30 readers who read once or twice throughout the year. It would be great to expand that number and in particular to attract new readers. Please help me to boost the pool of volunteers, if any members of the congregation, (including children), would like to join the reading rota please contact myself, Ian MacDonald. Telephone irmacdonald52@hotmail.co.uk Lunchtime Recitals - Our Saturday Lunchtime Recitals continue during May and early June. Please note however that there is NO RECITAL next Saturday, 19th May. The final two recitals are on Saturdays 26th May and 2nd June and will be solo vocal recitals. Admission to all these will be free and there will be a retiring collection. The recitals have proved to be a success so far and through them we have welcomed new people to the cathedral. Please do come and support these if you are able. CHRISTIAN AID WEEK 2018 Sunday May 13th: Mari McNeill, Acting Head of Christian Aid in Wales, will give the address at the 9am service, and collectors will be commissioned. Retiring collections for Christian Aid will be held at the end of every service: donations can be made by cash or cheque payable to Christian Aid. Please use the Gift Aid facility if you can: it adds 25% to your donation! Wednesday May 16th: 12.30pm: War on Want Lunch at Prebendal House 5 per head (or more if you wish!). Come and enjoy bread, cheese and fruit - and the very best of company! Friday May 18th: 8pm Llandaff City Church in Wales Primary School Quiz Night at Fairwater Conservative Club per head in aid of Christian Aid. All welcome. We have found them a source of comfort at this difficult time. Llandaff Parish Branch of Mothers' Union - On Wednesday 16th May (this week) the Llandaff Deanery Mother' Union Festival Service, will be held at the church in Tongwynlais starting at 2pm. Everyone welcome to attend. On Monday 21st May branch members are visiting St Margaret's Church, Roath. Please meet at the Cathedral Green, the VEST Bus will leave The Green at 1.45 pm. For further information, please contact Elizabeth Evans or Enid Evans. Completed teddies for the caravan can be given to Brenda Isaacs, Enid Evans or left at the Cathedral Shop.
