TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION F or many centuries, Chris an pilgrims have longed to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, and on Passion Sunday the eyes of the world are on the Via Dolorosa, the Road of Sorrows, in Jerusalem. As soon as it became safe for Chris ans to worship in public in the fourth century, a way was marked out. It was changed a few mes over the years, and today s usual route was sketched by the Franciscans six hundred years ago, although Anglicans and Byzan nes have their own unique detours. Friday is the most favored day, although it is crowded then. Almost everyone begins at the Lion s Gate in the Muslim Quarter, and ends at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. It s less than a quarter mile, but it threads its way through crowded markets with souvenir shops and fast food snacks. There are, just as in your parish church, fourteen sta ons along the way. The exact spots are not known, but what ma ers is the pilgrim s unique ability to see even an ordinary road in a teeming city as something more than meets the eye. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Want to sign up to be a regular Adorer? Stop by the Adora on Chapel in the Social Hall A potluck for Adorers has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 11 a er the 6 pm Mass. There is a sign up form in the Chapel. Our Easter Food Baskets were given out March 24. With the generous help from our parishioners and the hard work of our Vincen ans we are feeding 51 families with a total of over 250 adults and children. They will feast on ham with all the trimmings, plus the much needed goodies from the St. Joseph's Table. We thank you for all the help you give us, and the families thank you too. Our clients range in age from 3 weeks old to seniors in their 70's. When we enjoy our own Easter meals we can do so with the sa sfac on in knowing we have made possible meals for those in need. The fact that extra eggs and dye were included for families with children brought smiles to the parents' faces. On another note... Through our Walnut Cove Home Owners Grant we gave diapers to seven families. Again we thank you. Have a Blessed Easter, and be assured that you are in our prayers. Your Vincen ans ext "Informed" Consent and Abor on When you go to the hospital for any medical procedure, you are invariable informed about the procedure, its possible complica ons, etc. Only then does the pa ent give "informed" consent. Abor on is the most frequently performed surgery on adults in America. Yet it is unique in that, while it is surgery that is poten ally dangerous to the mother and destroys the human being within her, the mother is not given proper factual informa on on the surgery, not to men on any details about "what she carries". Indeed, this is one of the most tragic abuses associ ated with the abor on industry par cularly as the abor on clinic has a vested, financial interest to carry out the abor on. Very li le (if any) factual informa on is given at all, and what is given is o en false. The complica ons are ignored, glossed over, or men oned on a paper in fine print. The mother's baby is referred to as "pregnancy ssue", "not alive yet", "not a baby yet", "just a bunch of cells", "only a glob". These descrip ons are given at a stage of development when the baby already sucks his or her thumb and feels pain, and when we can lis ten to his/her ny heartbeat on an office ultrasonic stethoscope. Such decep on of the mother and railroading her into an abor on is never more evident than when the so called "counselor" asks her, "Do you want your menstrual period re established? If so, just sign up for this procedure". Abor on is not men oned, nor is any thing said about the baby. Abor on is a huge industry, providing enormous prof its to providers such as Planned Parenthood. There is no be er example of the exploita on of women than this con nuing, commercialized, and almost universal decep on. h p://pro lifear cles.org
