Ci vediamo! All are invited to our church, St. Andrew the Apostle, to celebrate a mass in honour of St. Anthony of Padua on the 13 th of June at 6:30 pm by Fr. Sam D Angelo. We encourage you to bring some bread, some of which will be distributed to the poor and the rest for your family s needs. The bread will be blessed during the mass. While the mass will be celebrated in Italian, the homily will be preached in English. After the mass, refreshments will be served in the parish hall. Hope to see you there!

5 Congratulations & Best Wishes to Fr. Michael who is celebrating his 19 th Ordination Anniversary on June 3 rd 'God in his grace chose me even before I was born and called me to serve Him.' Galatians 1:15 THEO TOKOS With the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation in our Parish this past week, which followed so closely the celebration of Pentecost last month, and given that most of us have received this Sacrament at some point along our journey of faith, it may be worth recalling what, exactly, we did receive. The Catechism sums it up as follows: Confirmation perfects Baptismal grace; it is the Sacrament which gives the Holy Spirit in order to root us more deeply in the divine filiation, incorporate us more firmly into Christ, strengthen our bond with the Church, associate us more closely with her mission, and help us bear witness to the Christian faith in words accompanied by deeds (CCC 1316). The specific gifts of the Holy Spirit we received were wisdom, understanding, right judgment, courage, knowledge, reverence and holy fear in God s presence. The fruits of this same Holy Spirit are charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control and chastity. Not bad gifts, those are, nor such terrible fruits, are they? And they are ours. They have been freely given. Nobody can say I m not brave enough to do what is right or I m not wise enough to know the Lord or I don t have enough patience or it s too difficult to maintain modesty or I wish I could experience peace. No. All these things belong to us through the Spirit Who has bestowed them freely upon us. Now, it may be true that we have tucked those gifts away, like some forgotten sweater that is packed in a box on a shelf. A shame, that would be. For these gifts really do lead us to experience the fruits that flow from them a real joy and peace that nothing can disturb; a true goodness and kindness that echoes the heart of God; a faithful and chaste heart that is not drawn into the deadly hedonism of our times; a generous and gentle soul that protects us from the inward looking insularity of so many. These are not things for which we need to hope; rather, they are the very fruits of the gifts we already possess. We need only call upon them daily, practice them faithfully, and let them guide us always. A gift freely given still needs to be received. Take, then, and receive anew the gifts of the Holy Spirit, for they have been given.

Fr. Michael has produced a video of the celebration, and it has been posted on our Parish website. PARISH ENVELOPES: PLEASE mark down your donation amount on the front of your donation envelope, each time you use it. It is the only way we have to keep record of your donations for tax receipt purposes. 38% of the envelopes are not currently marked. This adds another layer of work to our collection counters, and increases the risk of error. Our collection counters are volunteers, and there is no reason to make their task more difficult it s far easier for each of us to mark down our own donation. You don t need to write your name but please do write your amount each week. In addition to saving and prolonging life, Health Sciences North takes it away, and that from the most vulnerable in our society. For the next 40 days, a silent prayer vigil will be kept on Paris Street, in front of this institution, as a sign of faith that God s victory over sin and death means that even the demon of abortion will be cast into the fiery pit. Everyone is invited to join in this prayer vigil, which will be kept Monday to Friday, from 8am to Noon. ARISE PRAYER CARDS: We are grateful to the men from the Capreol Knights of Columbus who so generously donated to the Parish all the ARISE prayer cards, and who paid to have the pew versions laminated. The non-laminated cards are available in both our entranceways. Please take one home and use this prayer during your personal and family prayer times. Parish groups and organizations are asked to pray this prayer during your meetings. The laminated cards (on the pews) are for use in Church for our prayers before Mass, and so we ask that you do not take these ones home.

7 VILLA LOYOLA NEW HYMN BOOKS: We need 100 books for OLP Site. 81 have been purchased, so there are 19 books remaining. We need 125 books for our SK Site. 108 have been purchased, so there are 17 books remaining. For your convenience, a donation form can be found on our Parish Web Site, on the Donations Page. Some of those forms have been printed and are also available in the entranceways of both our worship sites. Books may be dedicated to loved ones, and will be allocated on a first come first claimed basis. Don t be disappointed donate towards a book today. Based on the current rate of book donations, we expect the last hymnal to be donated on or before the last day of June. The Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life The Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life, written out of Saint Ignatius of Loyola s experience of God, are being offered in the Fall of 2013 at Villa Loyola. They will consist of 30 weeks of prayer material with small group gatherings to be held every second week during which you will learn strategies for discerning God s will for you. The Director of the Exercises will be Fr. Ronald Perron, S.J.. If you are interested in following the Spiritual Exercises or are unfamiliar with them and want to learn more, please join us at our introductory evening Tuesday June 18 th at 7:00 pm at 4951 Long Lake Road ( ext. 0). ENTER INTO RECONCILIATION AND HOLY EUCHARIST: Registration forms are available from Fr. Michael, following any weekend Mass, for those wishing to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to begin weekly reception of Holy Communion. The normal minimum age for those wishing to begin this process is eight. So, if your child will be eight years of age or older by the end of this year, and you wish to practice your Catholic faith with them, please see Fr. Michael in order to begin that process. ADORATION AND BENEDICATION Busy Bees The busy bees are back to work. Come and join us. Bring a brown bag lunch. We have lots of fun. Follows our Friday morning Mass this week. Come and spend an hour in prayer before our Lord.
